Editor's Note: Recommendation contains spoilers. You will love this story!!! From beginning to end, it keeps you on the edge of your seat and on a roller-coaster ride of emotion. It is fast-paced, with never a dull moment, and you will surely fall in love with the characters as much as I have! Fingersmith is a truly gifted writer - witty one moment, delivering mouth-watering angst the next, all culminating in a climax of fulfilled dreams and a happy, happy ending (which, come on, we all love!!). I especially love the fictional scenario of supposed unrequited love, then discovering the passion is fully reciprocated - and Fingersmith manages to convey all this exquisitely!! She is a true, raw talent, who I think we'll all hear more from very soon - remember where you saw her first!! And Fingersmith, if you're reading this - if you publish we'll buy your books!!! From your Number One Fan! - Julie Mar 31st, 2005 |
I think I might have fell in love with this story. I was hooked from the first paragraph to the last sentence. I would recommend this to anyone who has had a broken heart. You won't be disappointed. - Meg Mar 31st, 2005 |
WOW! this was a great story. What a great concept and was really well written. To bad Red Hope has decided to stop writting and this will never be finished. It still worth a read. - jayland Mar 31st, 2005 |
What a delightful surprise this was! I was browsing around looking for something new to read and noticed it on the "Archives" page. Very sweet. Real characters. Good dialogue. Right blend of pathos and humor. I completely enjoyed it and it kept me turning the page. Well done! Hope there will be more about Kris and Julianne! - Gracie Albright Mar 31st, 2005 |
Been hoping for s. anne gardner to resume this story for the longest time, and now that she has cant wait for the next update!! Her stories draws the reader in and grabs hold, not letting go until the last word. They are always filled with so much emotion and you can almost feel it with the same amount of intensity and realism as the character. highest recommendation for all her works! - blazinangelwings Mar 30th, 2005 |
Nice! so happy for the continuation of this awsome conqueror series! A definite must read of this whole series! - blazinangelwings Mar 30th, 2005 |
I couldn't wait to see this story on the Atheneaum just so I could recommend it! I agree whole heartedly with Poppet...the story is wonderful and it is fantastically written. I actually read this twice in under two weeks!! You will not regret taking the time to read this fabulous story and you'll fall in love with the characters. Asgard - Asgard Mar 30th, 2005 |
I read this story, and I thought it was great. I love the creatures and lands, and the characters are fun. I say read it! It's a good investment of time. - Katia N. Ruiz Mar 30th, 2005 |
If you havent read this story yet...I can only say one thing: READ IT!!! And read it now!! Figersmith just striked me as a fantastically gifted writer! And this is her first attempt to fiction...go figure! It's a wonderful story... sweet, funny, with such captivating characters that we all can relate to. It is very well writen and it can reach anyone's heart with so much joy. It talks about lost love - a theme that can strike a chord in anyone who went/goes through similar situations. And it also talks about love, friendship and all the emotions and fears and insecurities we all have at some point in our lives. Laura's character has an amazingly great sense of humor, being sarcastic at the right times, making you laugh no end. I really enjoyed this story so much, so I'd like to recommend it to anyone who hasnt read it yet. - Cris (aka Poppet) Mar 30th, 2005 |
not anymore. get it while you can before it disappears again. - kr Mar 29th, 2005 |
This story should get 20 stars - damn - 100 stars! What a story! I cried. Stories like this are so rare. Treat yourself to a brilliantly written, heart-breaking all time Xena classic. Long live classic Xena fan fiction. Wonderful surprise to sit down and read a story like this that moves you so much. - Karon Reiter Mar 29th, 2005 |
Some how I missed your first story. Had to go back and read it. I liked it; Xena and Amazons always a good story. The Persian Encounter is even better than the first part. Cannot wait for more! Thank you! - Nancy G. Mar 29th, 2005 |

I love conqueror stories!! And this ones is GREAT!! I highly recommend it!! - Kel Mar 29th, 2005 |
I had the pleasure of reading this story as soon as it was written. It tugged on my heartstrings and brought back memories of friends long gone. Panther has done a very good job of stepping inside her main character's life and bringing forth some very relevant issues that are occuring in the here and now. It is a must read by all readers. - Shadylady Mar 29th, 2005 |
I never read unfinished work, no patience. So why am I doing it with SAG's work? I love what falls out of this author's head and onto the page. Can we get her characters on The LWord?:) I still have Gardner's "Seduction of Laura" running through my mind. What a read! Greedy me, I think a sequel could happen...I'm still standing there with Laura, wondering. Very profound work. - Anonymous Mar 29th, 2005 |
What a beautiful story! Perhaps a bit sad, but very touching. And very well written too. Do not miss it! I can't wait for the rest of the series. Thanks Ms. Harte! - G. Carneiro Mar 29th, 2005 |
where is the rest of the story? please someone help! :) - Anonymous Mar 28th, 2005 Editor's Note: Most of the links between the parts are broken. You can get the full story here: http://www.ausxip.com/bards_p.php. |

One word sizzling. Absolutely loved it!! - A Mar 28th, 2005 |
I just spent a weekend engrossed in the 3 books of the "Honor Series." Radclyffe never ceases to amaze me with the complexity of her plots, the honest portrayal of her characters, and the intensity of the relationships. This series is yet another good read from an accomplished author. - Proofrdr Mar 28th, 2005 |
This is a very moving story, especially for those older amongst us in life-long relationships. - Proofrdr Mar 27th, 2005 |
I like the Pesian Encounter because you have managed to write with depth. I see the places you describe. I know the characters you paint. I experience the story myself, as if I am living it. Your story fires my magination. That is the mark of a truly good Bard. For that, I thank every one of you! May your quills ever remain sharp, and your inkwells perpetually full!! Thanks! - Justine Mar 26th, 2005 |
DJ, this is by far one of the best Mel and Janice stories that I have read in a long time. Using the details from my favorite Trilogy of the Ring was outstanding as it combined both ingredients into the one story. Thank you for providing us with such a refreshing, mystery packed tale. I can barily wait for your next story as each one just gets better. - Shadylady Mar 26th, 2005 |
Oh, this is a sweet story... Kim and Alexa are definitely great writers and their stories are all excellent. - Summer Sun Mar 25th, 2005 |
This is an excellent story. I loved the humor. The characters and story line are wonderful. The only thing that would make it better would be a sequel. - jh Mar 25th, 2005 |
I love Lara and Sarah. I think they are such a beautiful couple and a great team. I really loved this one cause they are now really a beautifully in sinc team. I also love the family of sort that works together to win against Lara's Uncle. It was so sad to discover her only blood relative was so evil. Please can we have more of Lara and her Angel. - Ronnie Mar 25th, 2005 |
this was a really good story - don't know why it only got three stars - kr Mar 23rd, 2005 |
This one is a riot, J is totally bonkers(too much candy) but also very likeable. One word of advice DON'T READ AND DRINK AT THE SAME TIME b/c you WILL ruin your monitor. Another great one from Larisa. Please keep writing these great tales. - Draco Mar 23rd, 2005 |
This would be a good premise for the Xena movie. - Draco Mar 23rd, 2005 |

I read this story a few years ago. I highly recommend it. It has everything a goog drama needs - love, war, suspense and much more. The detailed descriptions made me feel like I was there and that made the suspense even higher. It was one of the first Uber stories I read that I felt was a keeper. Just thinking about it makes me want to reread it and I rarely reread novel length stories. - Gabsfan Mar 20th, 2005 |

BRILLIANT story, fantastically written. Why is it not finished? Can't wait any longer... - Anonymous Mar 15th, 2005 |
Once again, a wonderfully written story by GSBinkley along with her co-author MSAnderson. This story holds a promise of romance and love that grows between two people who are friends first - much like in real life. I absolutely loved this story and will read it again and again and, yes, again. Definitely - a don't miss! - Perri Mar 14th, 2005 |
As always S. Anne Gardner writes a comment upon the meaning and tragedy of life as it is lived in any age in any quarter of the globe. a must read. - Monticristo Mar 14th, 2005 |

Sorry about the previous recommendation, that I wrote. I thought I copy and pasted the whole thing but I didn't. The story is awesome and can't wait for further chapters. I consumed by the story, you can tell by my previous half missing recommendation. I just wanted to reach through the words at the one character. - Shaye Mar 13th, 2005 |
I have read the first chapter of this story and I really loved it. In this first chapter the two (easily recognized) head-characters met under quite dramatic circumstances and a connection was made. I would love to review the whole story if I could find it.... - Lisa Mar 13th, 2005 Editor's Note: Regrettably, Curiositee stopped writing 3 or 4 years ago... |
This is one of the quintessential hurt/comfort stories of the Xenaverse - all hurt/comfort stories must measure to this in order to be good - and they are - but this is one of the best. Very well written. I give it 10 stars. - Karon Reiter Mar 12th, 2005 |
Fun tale that makes you smile when you read it. It makes you realize the main character could be anyone around you. Thanks for a great story. - Shadylady Mar 12th, 2005 |

I just finiehed The Play and I really hope there will be a second part. I really love Cleo and Clemmy. They are so cute and I love watching Poirot and Captain Hastings with them. Its a nice mix and was a very good mystery. - Pam Mar 8th, 2005 |
Thank you, author, for the next 6 pages. This author is excellent at 'rifts.' The emotional distance S. Anne Gardner creates between the two main characters starts your heart pounding with a tension of wants, wants and more wants. (like a good serial that keeps you coming back) She also throws you head first into each of her stories, as an excellent writer will do..you are off and running within her text. I devoured the pages before breakfast! - Anonymous Mar 8th, 2005 |
absolutely captivating story! Shows a close friendship between 6 people, 2 loving couples and one sizzling new relationship, all the while as a great mystery is played out. wish a sequel would be written. - blazinangelwings Mar 8th, 2005 |

Lost is by far my favorite story by Larisa. I've read almost every story by her and loved them all. Can't wait for more. - Poeticvamp Mar 7th, 2005 |
I can't believe that no one has commented on this story. I realize that it has been almost 4 years since the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, but Goesome has written a beautiful story that everyone should read. It has touched me deeply and I commend Goesome for taking up the task of writing this. - Kel Mar 7th, 2005 |
R. Nolan has created something truly wonderful in Unexpected Arrival. It was one of the most enjoyable stories I've read in a long time. With R. Nolan's wonderfully written dialogue, the characters really come alive to the reader. Seven is written very accurately, and the "Unexpected Arrival" was one that the reader can't help but fall in love with. It's sweet, romantic, funny…and just an all around great love story. It gets my highest recommendation. - Bardeyes Mar 7th, 2005 |
An incredibly heart-warming story. - aurelius Mar 7th, 2005 |
This story, although not mentioned - is the sequel to A Little Piece of Paradise. - kazy Mar 6th, 2005 Editor's Note: Fixed. |
This was the very first Midgit story I ever read and I was so moved by her depiction of Xena's undying love for Gabrielle that I treasure all of Midgit's writing. I wish she would publish all her ubers and keep writing more Xena fiction as well. She never disappoints me. - Karon Reiter Mar 6th, 2005 |
This was a good uber - well written - I enjoyed it. I like anything by Midgit - she has a wonderful grasp of the Xena and Gabrielle relationship and she translates it well into her original fiction. - Karon Reiter Mar 6th, 2005 |

I love LARISA and these stories of hers .The stories are all great .read them all!! - reader Mar 5th, 2005 |
Can anybody - will anybody finish this wonderful story that leaves you hanging? It has not been touched since 1997 so I would have to conclude Mathghamhna has abandoned it. But it's deserving of completion. It needs closure and it needs a resolution - and the possibilities are exciting and titillating if only someone would dare to come up with an ending. - Karon Reiter Mar 5th, 2005 Editor's Note - Important: Asking others to finish a story not finished by a bard is a no, no...it infringes on the bards' innate copyright. Basing a new original work on another bards' work has been done, but again, either the new writer asked the original works' writer for permission to base a work on theirs and got it, or the new writer very clearly documented the original work title, author, and time of writing and where it originally appeared. It is not often done successfully. |
loved it need I say more...LARISA ROCKS!!!!! - Anonymous Mar 4th, 2005 |
Fabulous sequel to More Than There Are Stars...just hurry and finish please....can't wait to see what happens.... - Anonymous Mar 4th, 2005 |

Mizz Alexander has king-sized gonads of steel. If you were born and raised south of the Mason-Dixon line, you might not enjoy this little ditty; however, if you want a good, hearty, abdominal-cramping laugh then by all means, have at it! - Cousin It - Mar 1st, 2005 |

In a time of parodies, ubers, and originals, readers are crying out for a hero. The hero is you...a bard...a mighty bard...forged at the computer keyboard. The plots, the characters, the imagination. Your story could re-ignite interest in the classic stories of Xena and Gabrielle.

I read 'When You're Near Me' when it first came out and thought WOW! What a wonderfully romantic and lovely story. The sweetness and beauty of the romance between Ashley and Jessie bloom from friendship and enchant the reader from start to finish. I had saved it on my hard drive cause you never know when you're in need of a wonderfully romantic story and this one is it! The beauty of this story is timeless. A classic for sure so I indulged myself in it once again and found hope that my dream will come true just like it did for Ashley and Jessie. Great job by two wonderful writers. What a brillant writing team of GS and MS! - Quest Feb 28th, 2005 |

Editor's Note: This recommendation contains spoilers. I just read part 3 and that restaurant scene, wow. There is one thing that bothers me, I can understand Taylor not wanting to blow her cover, but what Vicki did was out of line. That behavior should not go unpunished, I would think that something official would be done to Vicki for endangering an officer's life. - Shaye Feb 25th, 2005 |
It’s no secret that I adore R Nolan’s writings; this story is no exception. It is well written, and a wonderful love story with just enough angst to be intriguing without becomming frustrating. Keep up the great work R…and we’ll all keep reading, I’m sure. - Littlespit Feb 25th, 2005 |
i loved both this story and the second part. I love Audrey Hepburn and Ri captured the fun of the show while making it more modern and beleivable for a modern audience. The romance between the two of them is so funny and sweet. Well done. - taylor Feb 25th, 2005 |
Truly loved this story. I have never really been able to get into the Voyager Fanfic due to the dynamics of the characters but by adding a new character to the cast really made the story line click. Loved it. I highly recommend it to all. The author's previous works have all been excellent pieces and with this addition is par for the course. Wonderful job. - ellebmd Feb 23rd, 2005 |
Amazing Story, I Need a SEQUEL to keep breathing... lol. Likeable characters, believeable story, loved it... I highly recommend it - Heidi Feb 23rd, 2005 |

Since the series ended I have, along with nearly every XWP fan, been heartbroken by the series chosen ending, killing off Xena, regardless if there were hopes for resurrection in a movie ( who wants to watch a repeat sad ending of our hero?). So much so that I could not read anything but Uber, nor even watch the series in reruns knowing what laid ahead...until someone suggested reading Brigit M. Morgan's Apocalypse stories. I started with To Rest because, in essense, it's emotionally where I left off with XWP. There was not one wasted word in To Rest. It literally placed me next to Gabrielle in her grieving, exactly where so many fans were left after the series ended. What a moving work of art. You certainly understand loss. Thank you for continuing writing right through Apocalypse:Book 2-Inferno. - Anonymous Feb 20th, 2005 |
Links to parts 2 & 3 don't work where can I find the rest of this story? - Draco Feb 19th, 2005 Editor's Note: We don't believe this story was ever finished. |
A wonderfully written story! It is melancholy and thought-provoking, and sort of "foretold" the event in FIN (though I believe the story was written way before that). Not to be missed. - aurelius Feb 19th, 2005 |
Did this author ever finish this story? It was started in 1997 so I assume, no chance of it ever being completed. Too bad. A very interesting and angsty premise. - Karon Reiter Feb 19th, 2005 |
"Many Roads to Travel" is the sequel to this story, "True Colors" - Karon Reiter Feb 19th, 2005 Editor's Note: It's mentioned now. |
While it is not mentioned here on The Athenaeum, this story is the sequel to "True Colors" - Karon Reiter Feb 19th, 2005 Editor's Note: Ditto. |
There's 2 more parts to this story that's not listed here under Kandis' name. The 2nd part is "Xena's Revenge" and the 3rd part is "The Truth in Gabrielle's Heart" which completes the entire story. - Aresette Feb 19th, 2005 Editor's Note: A quick search of Google and other sites that Kandis has posted on doesn't turn them up. |
It might be helpful to know, since it's not mentioned here by The Athenaeum - that this is PART 3 of a series of 3 stories. So far, anyway. Readers need to read "Stranger Paths" first, followed by its sequel "Return to Reality" before reading this story in order to understand what is going on. - Karon Reiter Feb 19th, 2005 Editor's Note: They are now shown as a series. |
Alrissa, your wait is over! This sequel is every bit as good, and complex, and real, as the first book - and the link is available from the Athenaeum. Then, when you've finished reading this story, you can go to the Academy of Bards web site and start on the third book ("Modern Crusaders: Even Heroes..."). It hasn't been finished, yet, but the first seven chapters have been posted. - Susan E Feb 19th, 2005 Editor's Note: We've linked to it. Here's the link to part 2 and part 7 as well, as they are not linked correctly from the previous parts within the story. |
Great story so far...cant wait to read the rest of it and waaay lookin forward to part 3 - amy Feb 18th, 2005 |

This is not a short 29 page story. There are 7 parts to it - and WOW - what a story. A novel. - Salmanella Feb 17th, 2005 Editor's Note: We checked this again, and found that this tale is really just about 30 pages. Our page count is simply the number of pages that would be printed with our browser's print function. For anyone curious, our classifications of story length are as follows. Very short story 0-9 pages. Short story 10-49 pages. Novella 50-149 pages. Novel 150+ pages. And a little FYI on how that equates to a typical published paperback: We've found that our page count is 40% - 60% of what it would be as a typical paperback. That 156 page "novel" on our site would likely be over 300 pages as a printed book. |
I'll keep this short and sweet: The story is good, unique and avoids cliches, the world is greatly thought of, the characters are a blast, and it has just the right amount of fantasy in it. Oh and the main characters kinda like each other... Now i'm waiting for a sequel to be done... I guess i'm in it for the long haul. - Alrissa Feb 17th, 2005 |
Cherish Is The Word a short story of love, perhaps gone astray by words spoken too often without conviction because of insecurities and efforts made above and not enough below the surface of the relationship. For a short story the characters flaws are blended well into the best parts of their personalities as you follow their story into a true awareness of themselves and what is in their hearts. Check the authors site for more stories and some poetry that will take you into the depth and breadth of this author/poets fertile soul and writing scope. Erotic, funny, romantic, dark and believeable are some of what she writes so well. - casey Feb 17th, 2005 |
If you could only read one classic story ever again you’d have to choose this one. Brigit’s words are lyrical, sensitive, stirring, moving and down right heartbreaking at times but she tinge’s them with a glimmer of hope. The only negative thing I can say about this series is it’s not posted quickly enough for my greedy habit. I’ve been reading this regularly for what must be three years now and I’m just dying to read the conclusion. Having said that, you can see why from the quality of Brigit’s work that it’s produced expertly and lovingly without fault and that takes precious time. When you here ‘talk’ about making a Xena movie, I’d be very happy indeed if someone told me they were going to use this novella to do it. Go read this now! - Sai Feb 17th, 2005 |
The perfect Valentine's Day story. I thought it was very romantic and at the same time realistic. Brie and Lauren aren't the perfect couple and that's what makes their journey an interesting and enjoyable one to read. I also enjoyed reading it because it brought back some very special and romantic memories of my own. So, if you like romance in the classic sense of the word. This story is the one for you! - Philosopher poet Feb 17th, 2005 |
What is a Hercules story doing in Xena Fan Fiction?!?!? - Hercules Feb 16th, 2005 Editor's Note: As our Main Page states: About two-thirds of the works found here focus on the fantasy universe created in the TV series Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Most the works being written now have nothing at all to do with X:WP. We gladly welcome most original works, as well as most tales from Hercules, Star Trek, X-Files, Star Wars, Law and Order, Buffy, CSI, SG-1, Tomb Raider, or any other fictional TV or Movie "universe" you can name. |
Great story!!!! - Krysta Feb 16th, 2005 |
this is not a story - not even a vignette - it's a poem. - Kazi Feb 16th, 2005 |
This was such a good story. I couldn't put it down. I was so captivated with the story line - it could be because there was so much angst and heartbreak - for me, anyway. Great classic Xena writing. It's up there with the top stories. - Kazi Feb 16th, 2005 |

I just finished reading parts 1 to 5a of the story Dangerous Games and I really enjoyed it. The characters were finely drawn and the dialogue authentic. I really like the way the author weaved the Xena scrolls into this modern story. I would love to see how everything ties together but, alas, the story is unfinished. - griggssoccer Feb 15th, 2005 |
Unfourtunately the link is broken. Someone know any other place where we can find this story? - Anonymous Feb 14th, 2005 Editor's Note: This one is now working. |
Loving it large! It's yonks since I read a classic and this one has left me wanting more. Xena and Gabrielle are bang on and I realised how much I missed the 'real' them, if you get my drift. Don't get me wrong I love Uber, but you can't beat the real thing for a mega nostalgic trip. As soon as I saw who the authors were I was in there like a shot. I have loved both JLynn and Brigit M Morgan's other stories and I'm eagerly awaiting the conclusion to Brigit's outstanding Apocalypse/Inferno series, but this is filling the gap nicely. Bring on the classic revival. - Sai Feb 14th, 2005 |
I just read this tender love story for the second time. What a wonderful tour de force by Ms. Tryst! It is so difficult to maintain the speaker's voice in first-person narratives, but she does it beautifully. - Linda Feb 14th, 2005 |

Wow, this was beautifully written. Gilliland is such a good writer. I wish she had written more stories. After reading her work, you want to read more of her stories but unfortunately she didn't write very many. Our loss. Such a good storyteller. - Karon Reiter Feb 13th, 2005 |
There is nothing ordinary about this story, in fact it's damn near brilliant in it's simplicity. This bard has a knack for description that puts you in the moment. It's refreshing to read a passage that uses 'ordinary' words wisely and doesn't tread over the reader's sensibilites with unnecessary adjectives. I am not one to 'beg for a sequel' as I do not see a sequel in every story. But, this one has more to give and if the bard does write one, my mouse will be the first to point and click. - Anonymous Feb 13th, 2005 |
Melissa Good is a fine gift to fanfiction. I am so happy that someone of her skill has taken the time to write these brilliant stories. It only shows the love Melissa has for the characters and the world she has created. Dar and Kerry (and every other character)are multifaceted and polychromatic. They are tangible and real, just as their love for one another. They embed themselves into your psyche, it's inevitable! Melissa's descriptions are visually rich and satisfying. The very present erotic moments are handled in a tactful, gentle and "just enough" manner. The dialogues are the best I have ever read. Nothing feels forced. The story flows and the characters flow with it. Everything happens at the right moment. If I could only read one fanfiction author, it would be Melissa Good. I've read them all: Tropical Storm, Hurrican Watch, Eye of the Storm, Tropical High, and I just finished reading Terrors of the High Seas today, after rereading the previous 2 or 3 times. After reading Tropical Storm you will feel the need to glue yourselves to Dar and Kerry for the rest of their lives... But Melissa has written just the right number of sequels. At the end of Terrors of the High Seas, you will feel that need delightfully sedated from knowing that Dar and Kerry have reached closure in the most outstanding aspects of their separate lives. From then on, they will be together forever, and prepared to face the future come what may. - Nightsbane Feb 12th, 2005 |

Surrender, A really interesting..well written storyline. I am definitely looking forward towards the next chapters. Hopefully 'Stone" you and your 'gifted muse' have the entire story finished. (g)..... - Christi Feb 9th, 2005 |
Editor's Note: Contains spoilers Fantastic!!! I just loved it... maybe because I'm myself a huge beach bum. ;-) I'm not so into the pregnacy/rape stories and I don't think it was "necessary" for the plot here, but... I just "ignored" it. The setting and the characters are great. READ IT! - The Fic Addict Feb 9th, 2005 |
Whewwww....this was hot. One of the best of the erotic Xena stories. It has it all. Very intense. - Karon Reiter Feb 8th, 2005 |

Absolutely touching. - Jennifer Feb 8th, 2005 |
Xena and Gabrielle are individually challenged in order to save Xena from a dire fate. Each one’s challenge is pertinent to a specific characteristic of the two which the reader will recognize. The strong bond between the Bard and Warrior is a recurring theme in this author's work. Then, there is Andreas who teeters between wanting to help Gabrielle and being unable to, physically and emotionally. There is an ordinariness in his role and in Gabrielle's plight. Their trials show what unscrupulous people will do to those appearing weak and vulnerable. But what both women accomplish is far from ordinary. The beginning of this story will surprise and intrigue you as it did me upon my first reading. Mary Morgan’s stories are worth reading for the beauty of expression and the deep meanings that pepper just about every sentence, paragraph, page. The wonder is that she can include all that in stories of 7-9 pages. A rare skill indeed. Feb 4th, 2005 - AB Feb 7th, 2005 |
If you like eerie this story is for you. Morgan's descriptions of unnatural environments evoke a sense of foreboding that add to the atmosphere of evil that Gabrielle and Xena must overcome. To do this Xena must gain the trust of a warlord so she can ingratiate herself into the gang as his second in command. What she doesn't know is she is the pawn. Gabrielle, left behind because of an illness, experiences frightening dreams, so when she is able, starts out to join Xena. On her way, the bard encounters a tragedy, the consequence of which ironically results in their survival but at the expense of the Bard's sense of peace. The closing scene reveals one of Xena¹s skills that we don¹t see very often. Reviewed first in October 1999 by Lunacy, this story reveals once again Morgan¹s understanding of the depth of the Warrior and Bard's connection. Pick any, or better still, all of Mary Morgan¹s stories for hours of rewarding reading. - Anonymous Feb 7th, 2005 |
Cute tongue-in-cheek poke at the goofy websites out there. Sexy ghosts, hmm? This is a great quickie to go with lunch. - Taleweaver Feb 6th, 2005 |
This was a really good story, suitable for halloween, but equally as charming the rest of the year too. I must admit, I was a little surprised by the ending; there is a bit of a twist. Very well written, not predictable, with only one typo that I could spot. It's a charming bit of distraction that you should read. - Taleweaver Feb 6th, 2005 |
I read this story for the first time about a year ago and neglected to leave a comment. I'm not in the habit of reading a story more than once, but I felt a pull towards a good adventure. Thank goodness I gave it another look. There's a lot I missed from my first venture. This story plays like a movie script. The author doesn't miss a beat!! Brava! - jac Feb 6th, 2005 |

Can't find this story anywhere. Lunacy gave it a really good review but now it's gone. How did that happen? Where did it go? I don't know why the author just didn't give it to another site before the site it was originally on closed down. Can't undrerstand that. Can anybody find this? Googled it. Zilch. Gives me the same dead links that are on this webpage. - Anon Feb 5th, 2005 Editor's Note: This is indeed a lost story... |
Wow....Just wow!!!!! - Anonymous Feb 5th, 2005 |
I feel like a woman who has been crawling under a blazing sun across hot sand, lips cracked and parched - mind numb with thirst. I can see something in the distance, but what is it? Is it real? No, it can't be! I crawl closer reaching out with blistered fingers. It is. It is. It's a honest-to-goddess, full-blown, classic Xena and Gabrielle story, with Amazons and Ephiny and Autolycus ... Xena is Xena, Gabrielle is Gabrielle - they look, talk and banter like they should - they even smell like they should! By the gods, I think I even even get a whiff of a first time story somewhere in there under all the muck! I fall back onto the hot sand and roll over, staring at the blue of the sky, spent but relieved. And then my eyes widen in horror. Yikes! They evoked the challenge! I better get my lazy butt off this hot sand and get to work! Djwp (Helluva start! Beautifully written, great plot! If anyone threw down the gauntlet, I'm sure glad it was you two. I raise my cup to JLynn and Brigit M. Morgan - two of the best who are keeping Xena and Gabrielle classic alive!) - Djwp Feb 4th, 2005 |

Any updates for 'Breath Of Scandal'? I love this author's stories...they are thick and richly insane in psyche, and spellbinding. I'd like a new one for each week of the year. So selfish a reader am I, when I know darn well that such writing is a craft that is honed over and over... - Anonymous Feb 2nd, 2005 |
A great end to a wonderful journey. To come to know these characters and to feel as if they are your friends, it is bittersweet to be closing the door on their lives. However, Alex does it with the class and style that is uniquely her own. Thanks for the series. It was worth every moment. - Anonymous Feb 1st, 2005 |

Loved this story ...any idea when or if this story will be completed...finished part 5 pleeeaaase finish it Thanxx - FBF Jan 31st, 2005 |
I loved this story - this was sooo goooood. I cannot get the picture of a miniature Xena stuck down Gabrielle's cleavage out of my mind - and then not wanting to leave her comfortable and interesting abode. I also loved the fact that no matter how small Xena was - she was still 6 feet in her heart - and nothing could stop her perservernce and resolve - size just did not matter. Great story. What an imagination DJWP has. - Karon Reiter Jan 31st, 2005 |
Very promising I look forward to reading more instalments. - pogie. UK Jan 31st, 2005 |
God, what a great story!! I loved this piece. It was hot. XENA THE WARLORD. Who could aks for anything more? Every fantasy I've ever hard about "dark" Xena is in this story. Hubba hubba. Oh, to be Gabrielle.... One of my all time favorites. Hot Stuff. - Karon Reiter Jan 30th, 2005 |
A Perfect Ending :) - aubs Jan 30th, 2005 |
I'm not that fond of ubers - there's only a handful of stories out there that are really good that can capture the essence of Xena and Gabrielle - and can give us an exciting and well crafted story that allows the characterizations to express their fundamental traits and individuality, good and bad - this is one of them. Great story. Very erotic and sensual too. But what'd ya expect? It's Bat Morda. One of the quintessential fan fiction writers that have graced the Xenaverse. - Karon Reiter Jan 30th, 2005 |
A great, touching story. I couldn't imagine how many "I love you"s a story could contain until I read this one. ;-) Read it!! - The Fic Addict Jan 30th, 2005 |
Please can you help me to find the complete chronological list of Nene Adams stories> I would like to read them all from the beginning but am finding it difficult to work out the order. This is one of the best classic Xena fan fiction stories I've read (this comment is based on it's sequel as well, A Fine Line). It was very well written and edited like reading a published piece of work - Xena and Gabrielle along with a new and original secondary character were multi-dimensional, vivid and real. The story was very interesting and original with lots of layers and plenty of emotions and lots of angst. The depiction of Xena and Gabrielle's relationship was one of the most intense I have ever read - it was touching, sensual and poetic. In order to appreciate the full impact of this story you have to read the sequel, A Fine Line. - Karon Reiter Jan 29th, 2005 |
This was an amazing story. It's one of the best classic Xena stories that deals with the dark side of Xena and the ramifications that come with it. Suffice it to say, lots of angst. Brilliant. I loved it. Up there with Jenbob's Third Wheel and A Fine Line. It doesn't get any better than this. This is what you read fan fiction for. - Karon Reiter Jan 29th, 2005 |

Like the poster before me, I agree, there is definite lack of good classic Xena stories being written - everyone seems to be moving to uber more since the show ended - this story by one of the premiere superior writers is so moving and so touching - that no uber can come close. This story will bring a tear to your eye by the sheer weight of the emotions being elicited. - Karon Reiter Jan 29th, 2005 |
Fool for love is a wonderful story that I think most people can identify with. The reader is taken on a journey of the heart. We get an inside look into Kara's heart, mind and soul. There are times when you want to shake her and say " grow up". And that's why this story touched me because it is a journey for this character. And it's not an easy one, but if you believe in fairy tales, this is the story for you. - Philosopher Poet Jan 29th, 2005 |
i really like this tale. very interesting. btw i would of loved 2 know what happened in that kitchen ;-) - louise Jan 29th, 2005 |
This is one hot story, seriously, I love the way it all happened. I just wish that happened in my life. I hope u write more like this. - louise Jan 29th, 2005 |
Who wouldn't get sucked in by a title like "A Fool For Love"? Something most of us have been thru and I can't think of anything better to be a fool for. And this short story does it well. From a rocky start of despair to a trip thru more foolishness. A warm, loving relationship almost destroyed by doubts and fears. Read this yourself to discover their fate. You won't be sorry. Kara & Faith are characters you will enjoy watching as they tuck you into layers of their story. - casey Jan 28th, 2005 |
LOVED THIS STORY! Very original, very well written, and one of the best stories that combines uber with classic! If you haven't read it yet...what are you waiting for?? - Anonymous Jan 28th, 2005 |

This was a very good Conqueror story. It also followed very much from the Herc episode and I could easily see this as a follow-up Xena episode. It shows a very conflicted Xena doing battle with her darkness and her new disturbing feelings for Gabrielle, The Storyteller who brings a sense of joy into her life - a joy she's never known. - Karon Reiter Jan 26th, 2005 |
I always loved the mysteries by Agatha especially those staring the great Belgium detective. I think that Ri captured him perfectly. He was just like in the books by the wonderful Agatha Christie and yet it was still all her own style. The two very lovable Ubers Cleo and Clemmy sweetly helping the great detective solve the murder that they accidently got involved in was wonderful too. Just a wonderful mystery. - Ruthie Jan 26th, 2005 |

I really loved reading it. It's a really great story. The interaction of the characters and the atmosphere are well written... it's a good mixture of "Bodyguard" (the movie), a family drama... and... well, let's put it that way: It gets kinda hot in the middle (very soon and very eager!)! HIGHLY RECOMMENDABLE! :-) - The Fic Addict Jan 26th, 2005 |

Hmm - I had a comment on this story, but it seems to have disappeared. Let's try this again. This is an entertaining and nicely written story (as you can expect from Miller) with a generous dash of angst and heart-ache (also pretty much expected from Miller :). Give this a go and keep at it till the end! All's well that ends well :). - Anonymous Jan 24th, 2005 Editor's Note: Sorry...we did have some issues with some comments...they have been corrected. |
This was an incredible story. I loved it. Couldn't put it down. I recommend anything by DJWP - one of the great classic Xena bards. Check all her stuff out. You won't be disappointed. All her work is original and captivating. - Karon Reiter Jan 24th, 2005 |
Once again Della Street gives us a great story. I can't get enough of her writing - her depiction of the Xena and Gabrielle relationship. I wish she had been one of the head writers on the show. - Karon Reiter Jan 24th, 2005 |

Read this! Staying in the Game is well written, wonderfully entertaining and outstandingly original while still retaining the essential flavours of the X&G archetypes. The author also does a great job of providing strong, well-rounded supporting characters that are engaging in their own rights, but don't steal the show from its leads. I could wish that Shelley had made the girls work a little harder to get back into her good-graces, but otherwise: I love this story :). - Anonymous Jan 24th, 2005 |
This story is titled RETURN TO EIRE not Return To Fire - Anon Jan 23rd, 2005 Editor's Note: Fixed. |
This was a great Conqueror story - one of the best. Della Street captures the fundamental heart of Xena - be her a reformed warlord or the Conqueror - she's still Xena. - Karon Reiter Jan 23rd, 2005 |
Great story would like to know ending .Anyone know where I can find the ending? - Anonymous Jan 23rd, 2005 Editor's Note: This story was never finished, but we did fix the link at the end of part four so that you get five more parts. J |

Amazing start. I'm anxiously waiting for more. - Anonymous Jan 23rd, 2005 |
I loved this story. The characters come to life and the adventure is truly a joyride as Ally and Chas find their way to each other. Definitely a 'don't miss'. Will there be a sequel? Just a suggestion :) - Ryn Jan 23rd, 2005 |
I took the time to re-visit this story and found it as enchanting, easy to read and romantic as I did when I first read it. It is one of my favs... if you missed it the first time, be sure to take a long at it now and see what you've been missing. Great story. - Ryn Jan 23rd, 2005 |
I am so thankful that I got reminded of the warmth in family. I can walk out my door to the one I adore. I can walk out my door and hug my mother. I can walk out the door and still enjoy my father's warm embrace. Thank you for reminding me of my best gifts. Haven't got a lamb though yet...but I am still hoping. ;) - MoonLightning Jan 23rd, 2005 |
More then words can express how this story left me. It tempts my faith.. tips my beliefs on end…makes me question real and unreal. God's intent and the power of love. Tears still roll slowly down my cheeks. My heart aches a bit. I feel proud for some reason and I am very grateful to the author for righting down this vision. God grants miracles but does only so when no other party is paying in pain for that gift. Be merciful and make the pain a bit less in us all. Could one wish for a sequel and be granted one? The only one with the grace to grant that wish is you Darkenedkarma. - MoonLightning Jan 23rd, 2005 |
This is the sequel to "A Warlord's Legacy" by Rachel2 - Anon Jan 23rd, 2005 Editor's Note: Thanks! Noted on the story. |
Contains Spoilers. How I love this story. It has stayed with me over the years. What an incredible read. The author has put down on paper such exact details of what it is like to lose someone and how we remember them and the pain in knowing that this person will never be with us again to make us laugh, to love us, to touch us, to excite us, to affect ours and others lives - that all the anticipation and excitment of loving and wanting to know more about this new person - will never be fulfilled - how empty and painful the heart becomes knowing your dreams are dead - the dreams of being with the one you love and admire and respect and felt was so strong, they would never die - all of it taken from you - to be no more - it will surely make you cry as it did me. This is about Gabrielle's loss over losing Xena in Destiny but it could very well apply to FIN. My heart was so heavy reading this. Powerful read. - Karon Reiter Jan 23rd, 2005 |
Follow up PLZ.. it was a short fun one. - MoonLightning Jan 23rd, 2005 |
This is NOT an alternative story. This is general story about the love between Xena and Ares. - Anon Jan 23rd, 2005 Editor's Note: It's been changed to 'general.' |
I read this story and while it was well-written - be warned that this is not an alternative story and should be under the "general" category. There are no sexual feelings or even a "romantic friendship" between Xena and Gabrielle. They are very straight and het and any feelings of romance or sexuality are those that come from Xena toward Ares. - Anon Jan 23rd, 2005 Editor's Note: It's been changed to 'general.' |
What a wonderful story! It's written as always with such grace and compelling characters that entertain, warm your heart and give us all hope of true love. My many thanks to GS who continues to write a variety of stories and in each and every case does it so wonderfully. Keep it up... I'm waiting for the sequel! - VP Jan 23rd, 2005 |
God, I loved this story!! It kept me spellbound. I couldn't get enough and that says a lot considering this series is easily 500 pages long. There is so much emotion and adventure and history in this masterpiece - this epic - I was so captivated. It also had the best romantic angst I have ever read in any Xena story - so much so that I would have to stop reading it for awhile to catch my breath so that I could absorb it, embrace it, have a conversation with myself as to why and how the events that were enfolding before me could be resolved. The romantic challenges that confront Xena and Gabrielle were sometimes really hard to read but it is so well-written, it enhances the plot and keeps you wanting to read more. I can't say enough about this story - but, damn, what an outstanding piece of litertaure! You will not find another Xena story - or uber story - that has such a well-structured and intricate plot or has this kind of superior writing with such strong characterizations and epic romance like this one. Be prepared to sink your heart and soul into this - it will take you away. - Karon Reiter Jan 23rd, 2005 |
This story was never completed and considering the date of its origin, it probably never will. Also, Patricia Ennis only completed three chapters, not 4, as it incorrectly shows above. This was a really good story, it's a shame it will remain unfinished. - Anon Jan 23rd, 2005 |

Simply put. ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. Gentle kind and something I would have loved to see Renee, Lucy, Alex, and Kevin act out. Soothing balm for the Soul and gentle cleansing tears follow in the wake of this story. Thank you Rose. - MoonLightning Jan 22nd, 2005 |
I wish I could find the Café in this story for after reading it, I'd LOVE to just go there. Paris is not my favorite city but I would go just to feel Café Angel's atmosphere. Hear the music, sip the coffee and cognac. - MoonLightning Jan 22nd, 2005 |

Absolutely EXCELLENT. Entertaining...bittersweet…Ingenious- And that Ladies is just the beginning of things to come form this Author and here stories. I give it 5 BUZZ out of 5 possible. - MoonLightning Jan 22nd, 2005 |
This is an entertaining and decently written story, though it doesn't stray much - if at all - from the standard uber formula. Still, there's something to be said for a recipe that's tried and true :), and within those constraints Harley still manages to give us vivid, nicely drawn characters and events that are quite engaging with their fresh familiarity. - Anonymous Jan 22nd, 2005 |
This is an entertaining and very nicely written tale that incorporates quite a bit more of the 'real' ancient Greece than most classic XWP tales tend to. Though the characterisations of Xena and Gabrielle don't quite sync with XWP canon - and the story is just begging for a sequel to explain and tie up various loose-ends - if you can ignore all that it's definitely a tale that's well worth a few hours of your time. - Anonymous Jan 22nd, 2005 |
This is part of Jim Kuntz's series that has to be read. It's wonderful. It stayed with me long after I finished the story. One of the great bards and great stories of Xena fan fiction. - Karon Reiter Jan 22nd, 2005 |

Ooooo, this was very good. Definitely want to read this one again. Hot!!!! - Karon Reiter Jan 22nd, 2005 |
I was expecting another average X/G slashfic. Instead, i got the most amazing surprise of my life. This is by far, the GREATEST and most amazing fic i have ever read, throughout the Xenaverse. A fic has never brought me to tears before, this one did, however. I am very saddened to hear that Tonya has since passed away, as i would have liked to let her know how her story touched my heart, and soul. God bless, you truly captured the spirit of both Xena and Gabrielle. I strongly reccomend EVERY Xena fan read this. If you are not a fan of Subtext, read it anyway. There is so much more to this story. so so so much more. thank you. - Penstarr Jan 22nd, 2005 |
A sweet, thoughtful and entertaining story that highlights how sometimes it takes dramatic events for you to reassess how you approach life and love. - Anonymous Jan 21st, 2005 |
Haunting, erotic, poetic, brilliant. This is the first time I've felt the need to write a comment, but after reading Book 1 & 2 over 2 weeks ago, I still can't get this one out of my mind. I'm spoiled now and find anything else I read a bit mundane. Morgan is a wonderful author, probably one of the best I've read. Go get published already! Original plot, excellent grammar and spelling and real intrigue. I do hope it will be finished? thanks so much. - Ldyswoman Jan 21st, 2005 |
Baermer is a great writer - I love her stuff. Anything she writes is definitely worth reading. I love her take on the dynamic between Xena and Gabrielle. There is nothing that Xena won't do to protect and love Gabrielle and Baermer always writes a powerful story depicting that love and the responsibility that goes along with it. - Karon Reiter Jan 21st, 2005 |
This was one of the better stories written about dealing with "The Rift" between Xena and Gabrielle. It stands up there with BL Miller's Guilt Love and Forgiveness and with the heartbreaking, difficult read of Cheaza's DID HE WHO MADE THE LAMB MAKE THEE? - Karon Reiter Jan 20th, 2005 |
This story was one of the best short stories ever - ever - ever - written. It was so good I kept thinking it was written by Ella Quince who is the quintessential short story writer of the Xenaverse. However, another tour-de-force bard is Danae as well. She's written some of the best classic Xena stories out there like Blood Innocence, That Damned Kiss, Building a Mystery, Cradle of Destiny, Puzzle Pieces and one of my own personal all time favorites that will make you go through an entire box of tissues is Priceless. And I am amazed and cannot understand for the life of me why this story, Live to Tell, only got 3 stars. What's up with that? Makes you realize that one can't judge any of the stories listed here on the stars it gets. This story will blow you away - and it's a multi-layered story It's definitely a story that should you read it again, you will see that there is more to it than on your first reading. This story should have gotten the max amount of stars. - Karon Reiter Jan 20th, 2005 Editor's Note: Over the years there have been upwards of two-dozen people writing the primary summaries and giving ratings for stories on this site. I suspect the above story was summarized around the time it was first listed on The Athenaeum in July 1997. At the time there were hundreds of Xena and Gabrielle stories being written, and the majority of them were quite good. I suspect the reviewer felt, in comparison to what else was being written, the story was a solid but average tale, hence they gave it 3 stars. You may disregard our ratings if you wish. They may be subjective, and at most they should be viewed as the opinions of one or two people only. We do feel the ratings have some value though, even with the understanding that not everyone will agree with them. |

Er ... if you want to read the story the review is talking about, I recommend you go to Red Hope's site, www.rehope.net, 'cause the one this links to is *not* "Just For A Day". Funny and very cute. I definitely recommend Carola's "Dash and Kiri" series to brighten up your day :). - Anonymous Jan 20th, 2005 |
An intense story which started when Xena and Gabrielle arrived in a mysterious town with a forest that held dark secrets. The emotional turmoil faced by the duo was very well done; Gabrielle's descent into madness, Xena's faith in the bard when she was accused of murder... the supporting characters were properly developed too. A brilliant piece of work. - aurelius Jan 20th, 2005 |
This is a wicked story. Leigh's character has a devilish sense of humour and she flirts like a demon. I don't normally start reading unfinished stories but the other 'comments' I read on this site pushed me over the edge and now I'm left in limbo land waiting for my next fix. Serves me right I suppose, will I ever learn. Please, please, please feed me now. - Sai Jan 20th, 2005 |
I loved this story, I found it fasinating to see how the android was handled in the story. She is more human then humans. I like the sweet introduction of the series of stories. I think its a great idea! - Kara Jan 19th, 2005 |
I really enjoyed this book, It was just great!! I don't have much time to read but I made sure to make time for this one. I hope book 2 comes out soon. Thanks - Anonymous Jan 18th, 2005 |
What a beautiful story! It left me absolutely speechless, with tears in my eyes. It bears out my personal conviction that, even beyond the moments of gripping drama, thrilling adventure, and enjoyable humor, XWP is one of THE greatest love stories in fiction ... and perhaps anywhere! - roxper Jan 18th, 2005 |
Wow! Wonderful! I absolutely loved this story and the characters. Again, GS Binkley has written a lively tale that should not be missed. I am anxiously waiting for the sequel to this marvelous, exciting and 'couldn't stop reading it till the end' story. Great job, GS! - Anonymous Jan 18th, 2005 |
Another great story from Wizzy. You learn that sometimes you have to finish things from your past before you can begin your future. And then you may grow into the person you are meant to be. I suggest you read this story for a truely awesome experience. - Anonymous Jan 18th, 2005 |

Thank you for a wonderful story. Job well done! - DM Jan 17th, 2005 |
This is a beautifully written story. I loved it. Deep soulful emotion. Also, read Her Gabrielle: A Response by Rebecca Hall - also beautifully written. - Karon Reiter Jan 17th, 2005 |
This story is one of my own personal favorites. It was so good that I kept confusing it with another great classic Xena story: Heart of a Warlord. They are very similar stories - not in plot - but in the angst, passion, sensuality and drama that they encompass. Images and emotions emerge so clearly and satisfyingly of what we wish we could see in the show but don't. The wanting and needing. The disappointment, miscommunication and misunderstandings - the pain, the hurt, the joy, the insecurity, the wonder of it all ... everything. It gives us everything the show doesn't. This is an early Xena story but it's still one of the best Xena stories written. - Karon Reiter Jan 17th, 2005 |
Well worth your time. A very funny story! - Erin Jan 17th, 2005 |
This was the first long Xena story I ever read - the first epic - and it still stands up there with one of the best - it's a classic in which I have always compared other stories to and it still holds up today as having all the elements, the angst, the passion, the sensuousness that other stories - even the good ones - failed to portray with the same amount of drama and eloquence that this story depicts. Patricia Ennis is a wonderful writer and she has the relationship between X&G down pat. This was the story that set the standards to me of what a good classic Xena story should encompass. She's also one of the first of the alternative fan fiction writers - way before any of the more popular ones even emerged. Read this story and you'll understand why this story still holds up as one of the best stories ever written. - Karon Reiter Jan 17th, 2005 |
zuke is one of my faves and i read this when it was first posted. i used garlic as cologne for a week afterward...just in case my wife was one of 'them". good scary stuff be here. *wink* - fanfic gourmet Jan 17th, 2005 |
I'M IN LOVE!! ... with this story ... uhm ... Anyway, this story is truly amazing, it's super, it will totally blow you away. Need I say more? READ IT! Don't walk, run! You'll be grateful to me, even when you're sitting behind the computer in the dead of the night with bleary eyes and you know you have to get up to work in few hours but you just can't put it down. Believe me, it'll happen! :D - Bacchus Jan 17th, 2005 |
Della Street is an amazing writer. What can you say about someone with her talents? She so dramatically captures the essence of Xena and Gabrielle's relationship in a way that lies just below the surface - that is so much hinted at on the show but dare not go that full throttle intensity. Della Street gives us that full throttle dynamic that we would so much love to see on the show - that we know is there on the show - we can see it - but the producers never give us totally. If there's one writer that says it all in her depiction of the protective love and intensity that the warrior has for her bard - and the witty sensual bantering between them - it's Della Street. Read all her stuff. She's one of the handful of classic Xena writers where you could never go wrong with any of her stuff. She'll never let you down. - Karon Reiter Jan 16th, 2005 |
I just finished warlocks shadow and I must say that I loved it!! It had everything a good story needs, love, hatered, revenge and finally closure. well done, write more please??? - peggy Jan 16th, 2005 |
A great read so far so much so that I am now desperate to read the rest!!! - argytwo Jan 16th, 2005 Editor's Note: Unfortunately this story was last updated sometime around 1999. A search for Alecto shows her own website vanished in 2002, so I'm afraid this story will probably never be finished. |
This story was amazing. It hurt to read it. It was so well written that I could feel Xena's pain - so utterly incapacitating. She was so lost and emotionally trapped by her own demons that she could only run from it rather than affect a change. This was such a good story. One of the best. - Karon Reiter Jan 16th, 2005 |
I particularly like how this bard writes about women of color without destroying their dialogue with an excess of slang. I loathe to call this a PWP because it actually has a decent plot but the sex is too hot not to. I'm still drooling. ;p - Femmester Jan 16th, 2005 |
This story goes to a dead link and seems to be lost or unavailable - Karon Reiter Jan 15th, 2005 Editor's Note: This one is indeed a lost story. |
I enjoyed this story a lot. Very well written. It's a save. - Karon Reiter Jan 15th, 2005 |
i'd love to read a sequel, i read it before but i lost it ,i've been looking for this story since the last time i read it last year, finally found it again.great story - Montse (spain) Jan 15th, 2005 |
this was a great story that is part of his series. You have to read all of Jim Kuntz's work. He's a wonderful writer. - Karon Reiter Jan 15th, 2005 |
I loved this little known well written story. I was pleasantly surprised and rewarded reading such a well crafted story that reads like an episode. She captures the dynamics between Xena and Gabrielle so well that you can see Lucy and Renee in this story - the back and forth banter and repartee is excellent. Actually, this story reads better than most of the episodes on the show and makes one wonder why TPTB didn't use the more creative and imaginative fan fiction writers or thier stories than the "professional" writers they employed. The fan fiction stories are by far so much better than most of the stories the show came up with - or any of the Xena books that have come out by paid writers, like Ru Emerson, who have very little grasp or passion for the characters the way the fan fiction writers do. The fan fiction stories are way more interesting and the writing is superior than most of what the show produced - be it through their episodes or through the books they published. - Karon Reiter Jan 15th, 2005 |
This story ranks up there on the top of the list as one of the all time greatest Xena stories ever written. This is a story that I could not forget and will read over and over. So was the prequel, A Third Wheel. I don't have the words to describe the emotions I felt while reading this, so I would suggest linking to Lunacy because she says it all on how brilliant and well-crafted the story is. - Karon Reiter Jan 15th, 2005 |
This story is fabulous - I didn't know it was finished and am unable to link beyond the first part. I have up to 63.3. Is there another link to finish this great tale? - memck Jan 15th, 2005 Editor's Note: The story is finished, but the links are broken throughout. We've changed the URL to direct you do Dreams' Novels Page. You need to access each part from that page. |
I loved this book. I read the book, not the on-line version which is probably the reason the story is no longer available on line because it's been published. This was one of the very few "uber" or original stories out there that stayed with me long after I finished reading it. It was very well written, well paced, the dialogue was real and it was snappy and witty and you really felt for Bailey's circumstances. I only wish there could be a sequel to see how she's getting on adjusting to her relationship. This was a great story - one you'll save to read over again. - Karon Reiter Jan 14th, 2005 |
Actually The Enchantment is the prequel to Enchanted Again. Not the other way around. Friction is a great writer - I love her work. My favorite, so far, as I haven't read all of her stuff is The Awakening. Incredible story. - Karon Reiter Jan 14th, 2005 |
I loved this series. It was so well written, you won't be able to put it down. I have to say that personally, the third part was the best one for me. That doesn't mean the others weren't as good - it's just that story built and built, the way a good story should and it culminated in a wonderfully moving and angst ridden and...well, just read it. It's great. I love WordWarior. - Karon Reiter Jan 14th, 2005 |
This is a CRACKING story and one you won't want to put down. I didn't ever want to finish it, but couldn't wait to get to the end. Please, please 'Dreams' do a sequel. - Sai Jan 14th, 2005 |
I have recently completed reading all of Larisas works that are posted here and I would like to recommend that anyone who hasn't seen any of her work to do so now they are well worth the time and will bring a smile to anyones face if not outrageous laughter. You only need to check out the top 100 lists to see how popular she is 19 fics appeared in the list for 2003 and 15 for 2004 grabbing the #1 spot in both lists! Run don't walk you won't be disappointed! - elatxc Jan 14th, 2005 |
You have to read this series, its amazing. I gurantee that it will hook you.Great seriers, you won't regret reading it. - D Jan 13th, 2005 |
This is an amazing story. I was bored and wanted to read anything and this story hooked me. Trust me once you start reading you won't stop until you finish the series. - D Jan 13th, 2005 |
I met the author on a plane to Hawaii. She told me she "kinda wrote some fiction". Victoria, you underestimate yourself! I LOVED this story and I quickly devoured the rest of your writing. You, my new friend, are a true romantic at heart. I think "Chance Encounters" is my favorite with "Second Generation" coming in a close second. You should have warned me to have a glass of cold water handy, though! Whew! Thank you for the wonderful read...and I hope your stay in Hawaii was great, Aloha! - Meagan Jan 13th, 2005 |
beautifully written and a great romance story! cant wait for the upcoming chapters! - blazinangelwings Jan 13th, 2005 |
I just finished reading the story and I just LOVE IT! it is one of the best uber stories out there. This one is definitely in my top 5 favorites. It is well written and i love the characters Erin and Leigh. Man, I just can't wait for the next chapter. I hope there is a sequel after this wonderful story is finish :) - GabHope'fan Jan 12th, 2005 |
This seems to be a dead link. - Anonymous Jan 12th, 2005 Editor's Note: It's been fixed...and lots of Zuke stories have been added. |
New Life, Turning Tides and Second Son (not finished) are well written by this author. I like what A.K. Naten does with erotica in these three. Could limit some of the 'head talking' that each character gives to 'tell' us what they're thinking etc in Turning Tides...but it did keep me reading until finished. I think this will be a book Aug2005 according to A.K.N. page. I love stories that have the X character as she is in these pieces...gender straddling/dominance. S. Anne Gardner's great writing also comes to mind for strong X character's not to mention intriquing plots. - Anonymous Jan 12th, 2005 |
THE single MOST AMAZING Mel/Janice Xena/Gabrielle Uber story I have EVER read. The characters are spot-on, the dialogue is seamless and the storyline is absolutely riveting. This story is now COMPLETE and highly recommended! - Alicia Jan 11th, 2005 |
I would love to read this story but it goes to a dead link and I can't find it anywhere on the Web. - Karon Reiter Jan 11th, 2005 Editor's Note: The link is now working, as are all of the links to Kanvil McAster's stories. You need to go to the Kanvil McAster link above since this story is in three parts and the parts are not linked together from within the story itself. |
This is a wonderful story full of angst, love and is very touching. A definite MUST read. It was one of the first fanfic novella's that I ever read and I've been hooked ever since. Alex, I hope you continue to grace us with your writings. - LouiseB Jan 11th, 2005 |
Psicology meets investigation, with action in the middle. A group of friends losing one of their one to sinking insanity over a sad twist of fate. A new comer igniting the fallen one’s awakening. New lovers lust with mixed emotions. Anger and friendship on the field. Love it! But then again I'm a sucker for stories portraying a good group of friends; besides, there’s a really hot couple. In simple adjectives: sexy (very very!), funny, deep, unexpected, great. It left me reading all night long. I’m *really* crossing my fingers to see a new story with these characters (all of them!). - Maria Jan 11th, 2005 |
Oh wow! What a great, fantastic and awesome story. It gets better with every chapter!! And I wonder how they can do such a great job. At each chapter there are pics. That's so amazing!!!!!!!! KEEP GOING!! KEEP GOING!!! KEEP GOING!!!!! :) - Cassandra Jan 11th, 2005 |
Sexy! Imaagine Xena putting on a striptease show for Queen Gabrielle in front of the Amazons... - Alicia Jan 10th, 2005 |
This was one of the few stories written that, to me, dealt with the aftermath of the rift in a way that few stories were able to - and in which the show was sorely lacking in - leaving a gaping hole wide open and unexplored. This ia a moving piece that is also a hard read, watching Gabrielle slip slowly into madness as the only way in which she can deal with her guilt over Solon's death. It's as difficult a read as Peribear's The Best in Love. There are only 2 other fan fiction stories that I think deal with the after affects of the rift effectively. Guilt Love and Forgiveness by BL Miller and The Long Way Home by Jamie Boughen. All other stories fall short of these 3. This is a powerful piece of writing and it will stay with you a very long time. - Karon Reiter Jan 10th, 2005 |
THIS IS NOT AN ALTERNATIVE STORY! THIS IS A SHIPPER - XENA AND ARES. BE WARNED. - Stranger Jan 10th, 2005 Editor's Note: It's been changed to general as per your shout. ;) |

I agree that "Thought By Love" is a great, great story and definitely a must read. It's been a while since I last read it but I'm about to read it again. This is a story that really should be published in book form and sold along side of the many others out there. For me, it will always be one of my all-time favs along with BL Miller's "Accidental Love" and LJ Maas' "None so Blind". All should be 'must' reads. - Mary Jo Jan 10th, 2005 |
Where's the link to this story? - Toenails Jan 10th, 2005 Editor's Note: The link is now fixed. |
I found this link to The Dangerous Truth. http://web.archive.org/web/20010609233406/http://www.geocities.com/WestHollywood/Heights/7228/tdt1.htm Unfortunately the link at the bottom that says Part 2 for The Beautiful Lie is a dead link. - Karon Reiter Jan 10th, 2005 Editor's Note: Unfortunately The Dangerous Truth and The Beautiful Lie have been 'lost' for several years. We've been keeping them in our database with the faint hope that someone somewhere may again post these two works from this fine author... |
Simply amazing! A wonderful read. Great characters, interesting story, sweet romance. Must read!!! - aequinoxia Jan 10th, 2005 |
This Comment contains spoilers. This was one of the best epics I ever read - and it is epic - starting with "The Fortress", "The City", "The Journey", "Meg's" and then finally with "The Lion's Wall". The only epic story that gave this one competition was Baermer's The Peloppenessian (sp?) War - which was an extraordinary piece of writing. If TPTB had to kill off Xena, they should have used Jim Kuntz's series - that would have been a fitting and fulfilling ending to the life of a warrior. While the viewers would have been saddened by her death, she would have died for something worth fighting for and for something the viewers thought was worth dying for unlike FIN which never engaged me enough - made me care enough - that I thought Xena had to die. His writing far surpasses anything the writers have ever come up with on the show. The ending is sometimes difficult to read because it's so well written that it pulls you in to the drama and the immediacy of what's at stake. If you read this series, you will never forget it. I highly recommend all his other work as well. He's an incredible writer who captures the intense and all consuming love that Xena and Gabrielle feel for each other. - Karon Reiter Jan 9th, 2005 |
This was a great story. One you won't find anywhere else - I don't think. Most stories are about encountering someone from Xena's past that pose a threat to Gabrielle - not this time. This story is about someone from Gabrielle's past. And because of that, I found it to be quite unique and intriguing. But then again, I find all of Ella Quince's works to be phenomenal. Considered to be one of the best bards in the Xenaverse - if not THE best bard. Check out all her work. It will never leave you - she's that good. - Karon Reiter Jan 9th, 2005 |
WordWarior is the best. Read all her stuff. This is part 2 of a 3 part series starting with Truth or Dare. My favorite was the 3rd part The Empty Heart. I can't say enough about WordWarior - just read her and you'll see why she's considered one of the best Xena Fan Fiction writers to grace the Xenaverse. I had the pleasure of meeting her once at one of the Cons and could not gush enough over her. - Karon Reiter Jan 9th, 2005 |

This Comment contains spoilers. I enjoyed this story very much and I thought the writing was excellent. Lariel should be publishing her own works - sorry, if she already has and I don't know. Contrary to what others have said in their comments, I think her take on Xena is keeping very much with canon and how the TV show depicted her. As we saw from the show, prior to her "change", she was a sociopath - she took what she wanted, maimed, killed, pillaged, used sex as a weapon and for pleasure. I know a lot of people view Xena and Gabrielle's relationship through the lens of a Harlequin romance novel and through their own notions of what they want in a relationship - but that reflects a 20th century way of thinking about relationships - and it's a luxury people did not have back during a time where they struggled more with having enough food to eat or having a roof over thier heads or worrying about the next warlord to come along who was going to take away everyhing you had which was probably not very much. The fact of the matter is, Xena is a very dark soul, filled with rage and aggression that can easily go from battlefield to bedroom, living during a time where violence was the norm. All that anger and brutality just doesn't go away just because she redirects it toward "the greater good". It's still there within her. While others feel she has changed and would not treat Gabrielle so brutally, there were no 12 step programs for people with violent tendencies like Xena or anger management classes to control her urges of rage and it makes more sense that a woman with her history, with her rage and brutal warrior tendencies, living in such a violent and "survival of the strongest" environmental culture, would have that violence bleed over into her personal relatioship with Gabrielle. That's why I thought "the rift" depicted on the show was realistic and keeping very much within Xena's personality. Kudos to Lariel for showing us a possibly more realistic portrayal of the Xena and Gabrielle relationship. - Karon Reiter Jan 9th, 2005 |
This is one of the all time great Xena fan fiction stories ever written. A classic. - Karon Reiter Jan 9th, 2005 |
The name of this story if called The Chalice - not The Calice - Ruby Jan 9th, 2005 Editor's Note: Oops -blushing- it's been fixed. |
One the early classic Xena stories with lots of angst and some eroticism. I thought the ending was rushed, though - like time was running out and the author needed to end it soon before the clock struck. - Karon Reiter Jan 9th, 2005 |
Good story. Classic Xena writer. - Karon Reiter Jan 9th, 2005 |
Another great story by LN James. One of the better bards out there. Everyone should read all of her stuff. You won't be disappointed. - Karon Reiter Jan 9th, 2005 |
Great story. Anything LN James writes is wonderful. Highly recommended. - Karon Reiter Jan 9th, 2005 |
This story goes to a dead link. - Disappointed Jan 9th, 2005 Editor's Note: Our links to The Visitor's stories are now fixed. |
This was one of the best "Warlord" Xena stories I've read - but anything from Pink Rabbit Productions is never disappointing. Highly charged and also teasingly erotic - it never quite got where I secretly wanted it to go - but that's what made it erotic. I wish there were more stories out there like this. I wish Pink Rabbit Prod. were still writing. - Karon Reiter Jan 8th, 2005 |
This story goes to a dead link - it cannot be found anywhere on the Net. Too bad. I think I read this story once - a long time ago when it was first posted - and I think - I can't be sure - because it's been so long - that it was a really good read. If anyone knows how to contact the author or knows where else it's posted - well, let us all know. - Disappointed Jan 8th, 2005 Editor's Note: Never say 'cannot be found anywere'... -grin- The above link is now functioning. |
S. Anne Gardner reached new heights, both on her latest releases to paperback with "For the Love of a Woman...etc." and in her incomparable talent for creating compelling, passionate page-turners. Once again with "An Affair of Love," S. Anne Gardner presents her newest and most thrilling novel, a seductive and suspenseful tale of dangerous liasons and family betrayals. Has it been published yet and if so where can we order it? We give this story the highest rating. - jbrobrts@swbell Jan 8th, 2005 |
KG is one of my all time fav's. She never disappoints, and as promised, I couldn't put it down until I was finished. KG, you're awesome. Keep them coming and I'll keep reading. Read this one people, and you'll see what I mean - this woman doesn't disappoint. - Maria Jan 7th, 2005 |
Jamie Boughen is an excellent storyteller. I recommend all of his stories - he never disappoints. - Karon Reiter Jan 7th, 2005 |
Verrry intense. I could hardly breathe. Perfectly portrayed emotions. I loved it and beg for more :)) - AquariusG Jan 7th, 2005 |
Before letting the bard know, it's my pleasure to tell you: Though this story claims to be nothing more than the sequel of an earlier unfinished series (by someone else), it can really stand on its own, it was great reading it - and I hope there will be a sequel. - Looking forward to more of your X&G or original stories, trigar. - rs Jan 7th, 2005 |
Made me laugh! You're right in your dialogue about Gabrielle. Nice diversion. Thanks for posting! - Alex Tryst Jan 7th, 2005 |
Excellent story. Very well written which one expects from a wonderful writer like Mary Morgan. With so few words she can say so much - make the reader feel so much. And you will feel. A very moving story of hope, loss and pain. You can feel Gabrielle's pain, her resolve, her hope, her disappointment - and then ultimately her joy - somewhat bitter sweet. I recommend anything by Mary Morgan. One of the better writers out there. - Karon Reiter Jan 6th, 2005 |
Loved it and it should be continued. I'd like to see where these two can take this relationship. One has mystery - one adventure. If anyone can develop this story it's Alex Tryst. - memck Jan 6th, 2005 |
Loved it worth a read :) - Sunsetkiss Jan 6th, 2005 |
um i think this is a lost link - Anonymous Jan 6th, 2005 [Editor's Note: The current link has been found. Thanks for letting us know it was lost.] |
I really loved this story. It was sweet and romantic. It was pure love. - Roni Jan 5th, 2005 |
Enjoyed the story very much. It's like watching a fast-paced movie. - Sawa Jan 4th, 2005 |
Well... well... GREAT! I don't know... technically it is a PWP somehow, but a PWP with a tiny bit of a storyline and a lot of comedy. And that's exactly what I like! Everytime one thought... ok... now... now they'll get to it... then... something happens... Extremely well written! - The Fic Addict Jan 4th, 2005 |
Really beautifully written. Even though I think that especially Xena's "change" of feeling could have been more elaborated (I hope that's the right word!). :-) - The Fic Addict Jan 4th, 2005 |
check her blog, The Ivory Tower--she's been having trouble with her internet host. - paedagogue Jan 3rd, 2005 |
Absolutely great! Loved reading it. :-) - The Fic Addict Jan 3rd, 2005 |
Really great! Fantastic! I didn't know that this story was that old and I always wondered why there's no sequel... it would have been great, if there had been. But after 4 years... ;-) Anyway: Read it! It's great! - The Dic Addict Jan 3rd, 2005 |
Well... I have to admit, that I had to laugh from time to time, or grin... so to say. But I can't like the story... I'm probably too "gay" to find THIS dancing herb (nice pun! ;-) made me curious, the only reason I read the story) funny... But: Great work... anyway. - The Fic Addict Jan 3rd, 2005 |
Nice piece of work.....great read - Sunsetkiss Jan 2nd, 2005 |
What has happened to Nene Adams' website - and her stories? - Barb Jan 2nd, 2005 |
What a beautifully written poem that conveys so much emotion and sorrow!! This was such a pleasure to read. I hope that we'll be seeing more from this writer. - Renee Jan 1st, 2005 |
I stumbled upon this fascinating tale tonight, and I'm so glad that I did. This is a compelling story about the darker as well as the lighter sides of human nature with a Twilight Zone twist that will stay with you long after you've finished reading. A must read! - Renee Jan 1st, 2005 |
Treat yourself and read "In Her Image". It is a beautifully written epic poem. Some consider it a compliment when their story is said to have flowed like classic poetry. But here Ms. Reed has written a poem so detailed and lovingly crafted that you are hardly aware of the gently exquisite flow of the rhyming. Instead you are there in the midst of the story of two women parted violently and the hurt and grief so strongly felt are within the lines. The rest of their story is for you to read yourself. You will not be disappointed if you love reading stories rich in content or simply quality writing. - LR Jan 1st, 2005 |
