lesbian culture not found in lesbian fiction??

I have a topic that I would like to bring up, because it seems that we have a cultural movement or at least phenomenon in this lesbian generation that is not evident in lesbian literature.
Out of the hundreds even thousand lesbian stories i've read, I would say that 99% have this in common: ahem...um... the ladies do not shave their v-jay.....! I'm actually blushing. I think I only read one story in which there was trimming. I don't mean a story about the actual act of shaving or trimming, but every sex scene uses the same phrase or a variation of the phrase, "her crisp/silky curls."
So....I'm wondering why? I have a theory as to why certain body parts are not shaved, and by all means tell me if i'm wrong. (Just please do it nicely, so I don't cry) I think the majority of authors on this website, and I mean authors who post more than one story, are in their 40's to 50's, who were heavily influenced by the late 70's and 80's. I was born at the dawn of the 80's, so I could be all wrong about this, but it is my understanding that the 80's was a time where feminists and lesbians alike raised their voices and started to take the world by storm. The gay community was embroiled in a social war, and there were more "strict" guidelines about the roles of lesbians. I believe this is also the time that Playboy's women were all supporting the "shaven look," and lesbians and feminists did not want to be a part of that new "culture" that portrayed and used women as sex objects. I think it was perceived that shaving was done for men's benefit.
So....am I right? Or am I assuming that in today's culture more women, hetero and lesbian alike, shave than actually do? Because it is my experience that at least my generation seems to lean more to shaving or at least trimming.
Kind of an embarrasing topic, and I hope it isn't inappropriate, but I would love to get other's feedback on this. I really think that shaving is a new part of our culture, but it doesn't seem to have crept into lesbian literature. Thank you!
