What do you think of stories where one of the main characters starts off straight either engaged to or married to a man only to find the Woman of her dreams? Has it been over done? Is it unrealistic ? I personally have read quite a few of these stories some very well done others not so good. Does anyone care? Would you prefer both to be lesbians from the start? Would you prefer that they discover this together? :i_don't_know:

I am not sure what it says about me but I do like stories where one character starts of (thinking that she is) straight.
Though, I don't prefer those to stories where both are lesbians. It just depends very much in what kind of romantic mood I am.

We would all like to think we know who we are by the time we reach adulthood. A lot of us don't know and I think it enables those who don't, not to feel excluded. From a creative aspect, there's a lot of play that can go on in creating the character that is questioning who they are. As far as both characters knowing exactly who they are, I enjoy those stories as well. It's sets up for a good romance story.

I'm all for fics like that, as long as they're well written.

'I Found My Heart in San Francisco' is probably the best fic I've read that fits the descrption perfectly. Straight girl Jamie, meets lesbian-jock Ryan through a 'Lesbian Literaure' course, and they fall in love, despite Jamie's fiance. It's a great read, but I have to admit, I was really put off by the decscription because I was expecting a lot of angsty drama. Which I can't personally stand. Where the two mains spend the majority of the fic having communciation problems because of a very contrived fight, etc.

I don't know what I really prefer, but I must admit, I loved how Missy Good's Dar and Kerry kind of just got together without a lot of hassle, and only discussed their sexualities after they were together. It wasn't a big deal, there was no angst, and man I wish I could find a woman like that! *grins*

Hi, I really don´t care one way or the other, but what i don´t really like are those stories that the couple the first time they see each other, they know that they are soulmates, they belong to each other, they feel when the other enters the room.
It feels too unrealistic.

And the worst ones in my opinion are those stories that the characters on the first date have flashbacks of a past life together.

Hey maybe is my fault, that i´m not very romantic,but what can i say it sounds like a myth, like lesbians i hear much about them, but i never had the pleasure to meet any.( no offense) :blushing:

I don't mind whether the characters have always know or are just discovering themselves, for me it's the quality of the writing and story. Although I don't like it when hetro sex scenes are included :worried:

One thing that I do find annoying is when a character has been set up having been alone for years, either through choice or circumstances, and suddenly there's 2 or 3 people chasing them. Especially when they know they love one, but sleep with the other. Turns me right off of a story *rolling eyes at myself*

I don't really mind as long as the storyline is half-way believable. Still, I do find that the straight girl discovers herself by falling for a gay one is a bit contrived at times. Very much like the straight "seducing the virgin" stories. A lot of it of course depends on what period the story is set. My main problem is with stories set in a contemporary western country, especially in the big cities. Plus it is a lot nicer when people actually know what they want and go out there to get it.

It doesn't really matter as long as they meet at a certain point in their lives but, I find it a bit more enjoyable when one starts out straight or engaged. I think your able to get inside the characters head a bit more.
