Meet and Greet

Celtic welcome to our zany world.

Hi this is Mona Lot with LATX News. While the marshmallow Rorschach patterns were interesting and lead to a number of philosophical discussions they have thrown our schedule way off and the sponsors were threatening to pull out. I myself was quite interested in watching the application techniques of solo and double patterns. Mad Maggi Mae is quite the artiste. She dripped melted marshmallows on Kimby Limby & bent her into some artful patterns. Barb Sub kept asking for hotter splatters and well now has some amazing pink tats. Charlotte Rae got a little jealous and began tossing sand on to the edible art and that's when things got really messy.

Our LATX water sisters Randi and Candi Dam have been hosing down the sand pits and the women. It appears that the melted marshmallows are almost gone and we will be back on track to begin our first match tomorrow morning. Randi is still stuck on shower duty but is happy to point out any missed spots. Candi has volunteered to remove any remaining sweets with the hose of your choice.

This is Mona Lot reporting live from the Naked Stadium. And now a word from a recent sponsor, Peeps: http://www.marshmallowpeeps.com/

In case anyone has some marshmallows remaining here is a tasteful top that Bouncing Teddi
modeled earlier in the day. Teddi is so crafty. http://bitsandpieces1.blogspot.com/2006 ... w-bra.html

Great to be in nature with friends now off to do way too many loads of dusty sweaty laundry :peace: Kali

Scotti, Yes I live in SF about 4 hours north of you. Today I was out in the front yard with the hose & Spiderman slip & slide. Just the sleeping bags left to launder from my trip. Neither Randi or Candi helped me hook up the hose as those pesky wenches are still in FL at the Naked Stadium.

Ok well I am joining this discussion late :P

My Name is Emily Johnson the 007 really isn't a bond thing...I just like 7 so figured what the hey. I am 26 and am attending UCF in Orlando FL to major in Digital Media (Website/Graphic design) and Advertising/Public Relations. I enjoy music, art/designing, writing, reading, and hanging out with friends. Hopefully when I graduate (this upcoming Summer/Fall *crosses fingers* I will finally move to California either San Diego or San Francisco...lovely weather out there!

Howdy Emily,

It's never too late to drop in and meet and greet. I enjoy all those things too. Well, maybe not designing, but art. Well...I guess it depends on your definition of designing.

Speaking of this thread, Yuri where are you? Surely calculus hasn't swallowed you whole yet?

Kali are Randi and Candi firemen? Cause if they are, we should problem send them back to California to put out all the fires yall are having.
Me - "Quiz time!"
Student - "I ain't going to lie to you. I didn't pay attention to anything you were doing up there."
Me - "I noticed. Feel for you. Here's your quiz."

This is yolanda back from a beautiful labor day weekend. Daytona beach is very beatiful, got a tan :big grin:
It would seem that our volleyball game ended with all of us singing kumbaya. Personally, I can't remember what happened after the game began. Not that I really care :D I got some :cool2:

Doesn't everyone just love our new anchor? Very beautiful if I so say so myself. Only second to my lovely wife, of course. Honey, I love you! I know you're watching, please don't throw my clothe's out on the yard again.

I'm not a flirt! Am I? I'm totally innocent

Alright so! I believe a traffic report is in store. Take it away Sherry!

Thanks for the welcomes :D

Hey Vnud if you have any questions about UCF just let me know and I will try to answer them. And yes very interesting that I will (hopefully) be graduating at that time...unless I wanna add another major/degree then all bests are off lol.

Well It is time for some more Communication law/Public Relations reading! Can we say FUN?!?! yeah...I didn't think so.

The only good/fun reading is reading done on this site...or about design!

And as for what I think of design Silver is basically your Photoshop/Illustrator. I really enjoy creating art with the computer. I am a somewhat decent drawer/sculptor, but I just like the freedom (I guess is the word) with the computer.

Well ta-ta for now ladies and have a wonderful evening!

Hey Vnud,

Orlando has grown on me. I am originally from Seminole (near St. Pete/Clearwater) and even though it was a city, Orlando is much bigger in scale. I do enjoy it here because there is a lot to do from sports, to places to hangout with friends and what not.

I have lived off campus from the beginning because of less expensive/more room (EX: your own bathroom) trust me when I say if you stay on campus make sure who ever you live with is a tidy person lol. It sucks if you are and they aren't and suddenly you're having to clean everything up.

I live maybe 5-10 minutes from campus so there really isn't much of a problem unless I wake up late haha. Also being close to the 408, a toll road, I can easily go anywhere if I need to around Orlando, as my job is downtown. I also have access to other main roads that don't have tolls so traveling about is fairly simple. Just do not ever, if you can swing it, take west/east colonial. That is traffic heaven :P

Now as to the pros of living on campus, you're that much closer to your classes, dining places (some, not sure if all, have kitchens where you can cook...I love cooking so yeah :P), and on-campus activities. Cons are having the roommate that just won't clean up, more expensive, and having to leave your dorm during the breaks between semester (except if you live at the towers I hear). Also I believe (but don't quote me) that you have to take your laundry to a separate facility to clean them I know a few friends have to do that and having to lug around 10-15 pounds of clothing...just isn't fun.

Pros to living off campus (I live in a place that is catered to student living) more room (some with or without your own bathroom), less expensive, you have a kitchen and a laundry room (which is amazing...just trust me lol). Most apartments that cater towards UCF students also have a shuttle going to and from campus.

Some places to stay clear of IMHO: Both Campus Crossings/The Point apartment complexes; a lot of theft and muggings. Anything with Pegasus in the name as they tend to be bigger apartment complexes and have more crime. (Try to stay in a smaller apartment complex area it tends to have less crime.)

If there is any other questions let me know ;)

I'm thinking of the Towers as my favorite. But is living off campus really less expensive? I would think it would be more...
I haven't even submitted my application lol so my questions are moot point. Sorry if I'm annoying lol Just tell me to shut up lol Oh and you can call me Yuri.

How about class sizes? and teachers? Do they teach and help students, or just teach and expect you to understand everything?
What's the worst and best thing about going to UCF?

Hey Yuri,

Don't worry you aren't annoying me at all lol so keep the q's coming I don't mind ;)

My rent is about $585.00 per month (some utilities included), though they had a deal for new residents at $555.00 so if you calculate $585 * 12 = $7020.00 per year.
Say you were going for the most inexpesive at The towers here are the rates: Fall = $3445.00, Spring = $3445.00, Summer semester = $2205.00, which comes to a total of $9095.00 So basically I am saving $2075.00 per year on rent.

Class sizes vary. With your general education classes they can be as big as 300+ students. As you get further into your major classes can be as low as 18-13. I am in writing for Public Relations right now and have only 14 people including myself. And as for the professors teaching and truly helping students compared to professors just teaching and uncaring, it really depends on the professors. I have met many who are so completely there to help and go out of their way to make sure you understand the class material. One site that has helped me choose classes is: ratemyprofessor.com at that site you can actually see how students rate the professor on ease, material, and what not and even see their opinion on the professor.

Now best thing about going to UCF, for me at least, was it helped me grow into the person I am today (cheesy but true lol) I have more responsibility and am following my passion where ever it takes me (let's hope California haha). Teachers that have cared in my schooling as well making me strive to do better (sometimes it isn't about the grade, though don't try to do bad, but the understanding of the material they are trying to teach you. And the amount of resources are pretty nice from the career center teaching you how to write a great resume, to the Gym, and many other free services to students. It may not be the best out of all Florida Universities, but it really is pretty cool to know I have resources that are open to me if I need them.

And as for the bad UCF is a big school, but with a bigger student population. Some classes are huge and fill up fast, parking is crazy, so thank God for the shuttle I take lol. But then again that can also mean that you can meet many different people and connect with them to build lasting friendships.

-Emily

P.S. Sorry for the long winded explinations, but I hey I like to talk...or in this case type I guess ;)

Hey Yuri,

Yeah, living off campus is always cheaper. When you're living on campus, you're paying mainly for convenience to your classes. But it also includes janitors, meals, any potential damage to the buildings, the students that work the front desk, computer labs, any residential life association fees, etc. Whereas, when you live in an apartment, you pay your rent directly to your landlord, the utlilities directly to the city, and the cable bill directly the cable company. The rest of your expenses are up to you. Like spending the gas to drive vs biking to school. I spent the first two years in the res. halls and it was alright. It let me focus on my studies (I was an idiot the second semester of my freshman year and took 18 credit hours, ouch.) without having to worry about getting the rent in or my bills payed. It also let me get used to being away from my family and the homesickness without any more stress added on besides the homework and clubs. I also met a more lot people by living in the dorms because when you're in an apartment, most likely your neighbors are very caught up in their lives and don't want to take/have the time to say "hallo" and chat.Though in the dorms, there were always the people who decided to go out partying during the school week and be abnoxiously loud when coming back in at 2 am. Or blasting their music at midnight, and then the next night someone pulls the fire alarm as a prank and everyone is out in the cold for two hours (which sucks when it's during winter, lots of ice with a bit of snow usually). So, what I'm saying is there is pros and cons to each and you have to decide which you can live with. If you don't mind my advice, I'd live on campus for the first year at least and get a handle on college life before moving into an apartment. Good luck with your search for colleges!

Camera pans in on Sherry as she chats on her cell. "But Susan, did you see that ass? And those breasts? What a gorgeous" "Sherry! You're on the AIR!!"

She snaps her phone shut and smiles weakly into the camera as a blush slowly works its way up her neck and face. :blushing:

"Er, hi all. This is Sherry Badass reporting for FAKE news. Welcome back Yolanda! We've missed you these last few days. You and your wife are looking incredible, as usual, and good luck with finding your clothes. You might want to try down the street. I saw a dog running by earlier with a bra and some pants hanging out of its mouth. The current report on traffic is... uh... somewhat unusual. But not that there are any accidents, oh no. Godzillatte seems to have taken a vacation from Japan and is currently wandering close to the major interstates. Understandably, there are massive slow downs due to people gawking, so today I would take the outer roads. We've got a chopper flying to the scene currently, so we will have some live footage soon. This is Sherry, reporting for FAKE news."

I don't mind long winded-ness (..is now a word).lol I love it. Thanks so much for the advice, thank you both actually. I need all the advice I can get right now lol
People say they love their senior years, they sure as hell didn't mention the stress of college apps. I hate them lol
I definately want to try and live on campus the first year, just so I can get used to being on my own. I just want a single room, I need my privacy. Even if it's just a little room.

I'm baaaaak...did ya miss me? Got sucked down in the black hole known as Facebook. I've missed quite a bit while I was gone. Yuri, glad to see you were able to breath life back to the board. I spend all my time over on Facebook now, which in my world is affectionately known as Crackbook. Do any of you use Facebook? Like to? If so send me a private IM and let the games begin! *hint, hint...some of our favorite authors have pages on FB*

Well this post is short as I've got to get back to writing. I'm going to be brave and post my new SWP after it has passed the beta reader test. Of course I have to find a beta reader first. :winking2:

Take care all and be well.

I'm Mary Kidder, reluctantly, once again, reporting for FAKE News. As some of you may or may not knows, I recently quit FAKE to go pursue a better job as a TV reporter. However once they say FAKE on my resume, they refused to hire me . I even tried getting a job at Burger King but they also refused to hire me once they saw my resume.

So now I've come back to FAKE news with the single condition that will be able to report actual news...

Yolanda-Mary!!! You're back!

Mary-Umm, I'm going to regret asking this but why do you have a shotgun?

Yolanda-Well....

Sherry-MARY!!! I've missed you. We had no one to drive us home after getting drunk at Naked Stadium. I had to sleep between Randi and Candi...then again I should be thanking you!

Mary-Umm, okay. As I was saying, I'm going to be reporting actual news. Today's top story is...

Sherry-Yo Yo, where you going with that gun??? What do you mean your pants? You can't hurt a PUPPY!!!! No Yo Yo. Get back here.

Mary-*groans* Oh god. I'm going to go watch Guiding Light. Here's Ms. Looker for you to stare at.
Me - "Quiz time!"
Student - "I ain't going to lie to you. I didn't pay attention to anything you were doing up there."
Me - "I noticed. Feel for you. Here's your quiz."

*cries* Guiding Light is gonna be over soon! Right when Otalia finally get together. I hope they show a kiss, but I don't think the show will show it just because it might be too taboo. *sigh* The world needs to grow up honestly.

Otalia! I know, i watched so happy. I would love a kiss but if they keep my happy ending, I'll be happy. Yuri you should go to youtube and type in Hilter Learns Otalia Wont Kiss. I laughed my ass off.

P.S. DId you see the part where Olivia pinched Natalia's butt? You gotta watch real close, Natalia's sitting by Frank picking out baby names and Olivia's standing behind her. They're looking at each other then Natalia jumps up in her chair, giving Olivia a look.
