Greetings from Finland !

Hi, I'm Anni (not my real name though but I think it will be easier to pronounce my finnish name than my real name) and I'm also a lurker.

I was born in Hong Kong but we moved to Finland pretty much soon after that so I don't remember anything about my ''home'' country. I was accidently introduced to fanfics when I was 15 and my english was pretty bad then but reading fanfics for three years has improved my english so I think reading fanfics does have a positive result.
I admit, at first when I started reading them it took a lot of time to understand most of them but I didn't quit reading 'cos I was way too hooked. *g*

Well, that was my way to come out of my hide and play. :)

Have a nice weekend !
Anni

Hello all!

Land of blistering heat? I live in Arizona...we have already hit the 3 digit temperature! 103 yesterday, cooled off to a chilly 98 today.

I live in Missouri, but vacation for two weeks in Arizona every year and I LOVE it. Last year I think it got up to 115 one day we were there. It's true what they say... it's a lot easier to stand that heat in Arizona. If it gets to 90 here in MO, it's freaking MISERABLE. I guess that's why we call it Misery.

parties themed by a letter of the alphabet?! thats brilliant! maybe I'm just waaay outta the loop, but I have never heard of such things. I am now in the process of the spreading the word to my friends muahaha. on an unrelated side note, ILoveUbers, I was intrigued by the quote you have by Karen Ripley; I had never heard of her before but that quote was very funny. So, I looked her up and found some of her stand up on youtube...holy crap that stuff had me almost rolling on the floor :ROTFL:

so, I feel like I should thank you for introducing me, althought inadvertantly, to her standup. thanks! :)

and Vnud, I'm with you on hurricane season, provided they dont hit us (and tampa hasnt been directly hit since the 20s I think...*knocks on wood*). but the rain and wind makes for good waves at the beach, and anyone from the West coast of FL knows that the ONLY time the gulf gets waves is during a hurricane haha.

is anyone else as excited as I am for the weekend?!

Hey anni *waves* Finland? thats pretty awesome :D

Hey Jumper *waves* Nice to meet you. I'm yuri and welcome to this thread lol I haven't been to misouri...But I may tend to think that it's worse than florida because at least we have to beach.

*narrows eyes at sinclair* Don't give it life! *knocks on wood.....twice* If tampa gets hit....I get hit too lol

I'm excited for the weekind :D I've got a parade to go to tonight. It's like a mini mardi gras lol except more family centered.

hi back...

not sure if it's worse than florida. i was in florida in october for a cruise. miami to be exact. personally, i was unimpressed, but i've been told that the area we were in was not what most would recommend. either way, i'd probably still go back... just for the beach. and preferably in the winter so i could have a few days free of the snow and ice and below freezing temps.

Hey jumper *waves*

I've never been to miami actually. But I know there are places in florida where its very breathtaking...especially the sunsets here. They look amazing over the water.

actually, downtown wasn't so bad. but the beach... well, i've seen better. i'd take panama city ANY day over miami. those are the only two cities i've been to down there. i don't doubt there are some beautiful cities for sure.

Hi all!

I'm Lies (and no, it's not pronounced like the English word and it doesn't mean that either :winking2: ) and I'm from Belgium. I've lived here all my life and it's a nice country to live in. The weather is not too bad and not too hot like I've seen some of you describe. I'm a student and I study in a city called Leuven.
Normally it's really nice to live in Leuven, but today and tomorrow there's some kind of conference here and it kind of feels like we are at war . Half the city is blocked by the police, there are helicopters, police agents on horses and in armoured cars. It's really impressive and most of it is because they are afraid of manifestations like in Strasbourg. Anyway, I'll be glad when the conference is over and life will be back to normal :)

Oh and about reading fanfic until morning, I have to admit that I'm guilty of that as well. When I come across a really good story, I can't stop reading it even though it's already 5am and I have a class at 9...

But wow......that's kinda intense :surprise2: But I bet the country is beautiful :)

Hmm, you have to say the ie from my name like the ea from mean. I hope this rather strange explanation was somewhat clear :p. (see, like the ea from clear :winking2: )

And it is intense. When I went out for a while I saw the police driving by all the time in their armoured cars. Really strange. But tomorrow evening it will all be over :) . And I wouldn't say the country as a whole is beautiful, but it has its beautiful places, just like all countries I guess :)

Thanks for liking my name ;). It's actually quite common here.
And I'm not brave, it's not that bad you know. The police is here to protect us... But I do think they exaggerated a little with their police force, a little less would have been ok as well.

hello to you new people! *waves* so how many people from Belgium is that now? 2, 3? seems like a lot, but thats probably because Ive never met anyone from there lol. Sounds pretty hectic with those conferences goin on. Its actually similar to that during football season here (Im from Tampa, but right now Im going to college in...alabama *shudders*). Every time there is a home game, the entire city shuts down, cops are on every street corner, and if you had any plans of driving anywhere, well, it aint gonna happen. about ten years ago we played LSU and their fans actually burned down one of our buildings so yeah, lots of cops and security during football season haha.

I know I'm kind of randomly rambling...been downing Monster energy drinks trying to stay awake and finish my senior thesis (I'm a history major--which is part of the reason I loved XWP so much, the history and mythology of it all). anywhooo...I'm taking a break from the research and writing for a bit to take part in my favorite method of procrastination--reading fanfic lol. happy monday everyone!

Hey zoja *waves* I like that name too lol how do you say it correctly? And Lies, I've never known anyone by that name so to me...its very unique. Plus, my name isn't very common here so I think it's awesome to hear of names that even I have never heard of.

We have a lot of gulf coasters! woohoo! *hifives sinclair and frost*

However...it would seem our dear sinclair has a bit too much Monster...*steals sinclairs drink and shakes head* darn kids.... :D

Hi Sinclair,
I'm glad this conference is only this one time. It would suck to have it happen more often like in your city, because we can't reach half the university facilities and well, because that much police is just creepy.. Luckily it's over tonight and only a few people were arrested :) .

And I like it to meet new people :). Just like most of you haven't met anybody of my country, I don't really know people from the US so it's nice to 'talk' with you :winking2: And also of course with those of you who are from other countries :D
