~ The Warrior and the Bard - The Warrior ~
by Carmen M Santiago
This poem depicts Xena and Gabrielle's love on a more intimate and personal level. There is no sex involved in this poem, just a tender affirmation of the love we all know is there and will never stop trying to understand. This is my understanding of it. (Although the poem does not explicitly mention the characters or allude to them specifically in any easily discernable way, I will still say that the characters Xena and Gabrielle are not owned nor were they created by me. Considering the fact that this poem is vague enough in that particular respect to be a poem about any two people in love, I do not believe this disclaim is necessary. But anyways...)
P.s There are 2 parts to this poem. The first part is called simply ' The Warrior' and is from, you guessed it, 'Xena's' point of view. The Second part is called 'The Bard' and is from 'Gabrielle's' point of view.
The Warrior and the Bard: Part 1
The Warrior:
I'm lost without you
I can't control myself
these feelings are so new
Everything i feel
everything i desire
everything i love
can be traced back to you
My anchor
my salvation
my reason for being
Everything I am
is your creation
You caught me as I was falling
pulled me into your unbiased embrace
rocked me as i wept
over the pain and shame
that shadows my past
You have captured and captivated
this wild beast
the eagle, the tiger, the lion
the untameable force
that in my core
i am
a feat that hundreds before you
have tried and failed
to do
You looked into
my gaurded, wary eyes
and with gentleness instead of force
with love instead of will
you crumbled my walls
weakened my knees
and brought to life a soul
I no longer believed
I had
Holding you in my arms
you are safe
for no harm will befall you
while there is breath
in my lungs
strength in my bones
power in just the sound
of your name
I will jump willingly
before any danger
Bravely face
any foe
and return to you
for you
always
I know that
despite the fact
that without you
my hold on life
will be no more
and my will to live
will become as evasive
as the meandering rivers
no matter what happens to my body
our love will carry on
My body is just a vessel
for you to use as you please
to shield or comfort you
for you to use
as you see fit
for my body is
of no consequence
You hold my heart
my love
my spirit and my soul
and as long as all I am is yours
I will go on
forever
and for all of time
for you
