Aphrodite is watching Xena's image displayed on a magic water pile. Xena's image smiles, and there appears Gabrielle's face, approaching to the Warrior Princess. Aphrodite continues watching with an expression of delight on her face, when someone sneaks slowly behind her.

"Oh damn!", the voice behind her shouted suddenly, scaring the Goddess of Love.

"What are you doing here, Ares?", Aphrodite angrily shouted to the dark figure.

"Doing my job, Aphrodite. Not like lurking those lamentable mortals", the God of War answered pointing to the pile with an expression of disgust.

"That's my job after all", Aphrodite answered, "and explain what are you doing in here, damned god."

"Oh, you know. That little girlie," said pointing to the pile, "is my worst enemy, and I have to do something about. I need Xena back!"

"And what has that to do with me?"

"Well, I guess I need your help. Love is the problem, so you'll have to solve it."

"Mmm, that could be done. You know I love to play with feelings. Let me think about it..."

A tricky smile appeared on Aphrodite's face. She whispered something in Ares' ear. Meanwhile he started to smile without loosing his fierce expression.

"Damn, this could work!", the God of War finally shouted.

"Yes, it's a good plan, but what do I get from it?", Aphrodite asked innocently.

"Uhmm, what do you want?"

"Maybe a bet would be great, just for play", Aphrodite answered, "If it works, you simply win. And if it doesn't, you'll serve me for a year."

"Ok, it's a good plan after all. I'm sure it will work. Go for it!", Ares concluded disappearing, while the image on the pile showed Xena and Gabrielle kissing each other.

Xena, eyes closed, went slowly away from Gabrielle's kiss. After a moment, she opened her eyes and said:

"Hey Gabrielle, maybe we should make a fire and all that, no?"

"Ohh, you're right, but gimme another kiss, please..."

Gabrielle was feeling playful, but she did as Xena told her, after all it was late and dark. When they finally got all ready for the night, they laid on a blanket, ready to sleep.

"Thanks for another day with you, Gabrielle", Xena whispered while taking her lover in her arms.

"Don't be silly, Xena. I love you as much as you love me", she murmured. They were tired after a long journey, but Xena wanted to play. She was lying behind Gabrielle, holding her in her arms. She kissed her neck, caressed her breasts, inhaled the scent of her hair.

"Ohhh Xena, you never get tired don't you?", Gabrielle whispered happily.

"Not of you, my love", Xena answered, her knee taking apart her lover's legs. Strong but gentle hand went behind, making Gabrielle moan softly. She put her own hand between her tights, looking for Xena's pleasure. But they were really tired, and after some more caresses and moans of pleasure, they finally went asleep in each others arms.

Xena saw herself on a beautiful landscape, a place where she had been before. This are the Elysian Fields, Xena thought. So this is a dream, she smiled.

She walked through the field, but no one was there. But a distant and soft sound was to hear. Xena paid attention and could hear someone crying.

"Crying in the Elysian Fields?", Xena thought. "This really has to be a dream, or maybe a nightmare."

But she approached to the sound, and under a big tree she could see Lao Ma crying. Her heart started to beat fast at the sight of her former love. She went slowly to her, and she touched her shoulder to make her know she was there. But without looking up, and still crying, Lao Ma said:

"Ohhh, Xena, what are you doing here? Leave me alone."

"Why are you crying Lao Ma? This is the land of eternal happiness", Xena answered.

"Not for me, Xena. I know my people needs me so much. I know terrible things are happening on Earth, but I can't do anything about, only stay forever in this terrible land of damned happiness", said Lao Ma, finally looking up directly to Xena, her lovely and exotic eyes full of tears.

Is she beautiful, Xena thought while sharing a long look with her former love. She caressed her dark long hair trying to comfort Lao Ma. I have to help her somehow, I debt her so much., she thought.

Lao Ma finally smiled, making Xena's heart feel happy again. "There's a way to escape, but I need you to come down here. I need to go back to Earth, Xena", she said, "and not only for my people. We both left something unfinished too. You're another good reason to go back to life, Xena. You could help me so much in helping my people."

Xena's heart beat fast at that words. "I... I'll do, Lao Ma. I'll help you. Wait for me", Xena said, while Lao Ma approached her face to Xena's face, kissing her lips like she did so many times before. Xena savoured her salty tears in that kiss. Then, the whole scene slowly faded out of Xena's sight, while she heard: "I still love you Xena. Do you still love me too?"

Xena's body murmured and moved in her sleep, still holding Gabrielle between her arms. But Gabrielle seemed asleep but restless too. Her lips moved without making any sound, her arms looking for something in the air before her.

She was in the same beautiful place from Xena's dream. But there wasn't Lao Ma, but someone she could only see from behind. But Gabrielle knew who was there.

"Perdicus", she whispered, surprised.

He went back slowly, and yes he was Gabrielle's dead husband.

"You're here, Gabrielle", he said, forcing a smile to appear on his face.

"Where are we, Perdicus? Is this a dream?"

"We're in the Elysian Fields, Gabrielle. And yes, this is a dream, at least for you. But not for me", he answered.

"You're in here for real, Perdicus? I'm happy for you", Gabrielle smiled, but somehow Perdicus didn't seem happy.

"Yes I'm in the Elysian Fields, Gabrielle. But I need to go out of here. Let me explain it all."

Gabrielle sat on the greenest grass of any world and heard his husband's voice, still standing behind her, his hands on her shoulders.

"We both know Callisto killed me, and not only me", Gabrielle's body shrunk at that remembrance, but Perdicus continued. "But in here we know lots of things about the fates. I was killed because I was the only one who could bring Callisto back from evil and heal her tortured heart. I need to go back to Earth and fulfil that mission. It's important for the whole world and for Callisto too."

"But what can we do? You're dead, here in the Elysian Fields", Gabrielle answered.

"I know another thing from my fate. And from yours. You're the only one who can bring me back to life, Gabrielle. You have to do it. It's your responsibility. And if not for that", his hands on her shoulder caressed her more firmly at that point, "at least do it for our love, Gabrielle. We were married, we had a long life together before us when Callisto killed me. After my mission is finished we could continue our lives together, Gabrielle. I still love you. Do you still love me?"

Gabrielle was speechless. The responsibility, and a glimpse of her love for Perdicus finally made her finally say: "Y... Yes I'll help you." Her green eyes watched the beautiful landscape while Perdicus started to kiss her neck, making her whisper: "I'll help you, Perdicus. I'll do anything, don't worry", while the dream slowly disappeared from her eyes.

Xena and Gabrielle finally woke up in the morning, still embraced. But they both went away one from another, still deeply thinking about their strange dreams from the past night. They were still speechless when they finished their breakfast and Xena stood up.

"Uh, Gabrielle, I have to go somewhere, and I guess you better don't come with me", Xena said, not daring to look into Gabrielle's eyes.

Gabrielle reacted as usually: "Why? Once again taking me away from your adventures?"

"Please don't start again", Xena answered, calling Argo with a whistle.

"Tell me at least where you're going, Xena."

"I'm going to the kingdom of Hades, and it will be a difficult journey, so you better stay away."

"And what are you going to do down there?", the bard asked suspiciously. "Has that something to do with Marcus again?"

"Oh no", Xena answered smiling, "it's a different story. Someone there needs me, and I'll do what is my debt."

"I've seen that smile on your face before, Xena", Gabrielle said angrily, "It's because of Lao Ma, isn't it? You abandon me and go behind her once again, Xena!?", she finally shouted.

"I'm not going to abandon you", Xena said, once again not daring to look into her lover's eyes.

"Xena, I can't understand you", Gabrielle said with tears in her eyes. "If you go away from me looking for Lao Ma, don't expect me not doing the same!"

"The same? What are you saying?"

"I'm going to go to the underworld too to help Perdicus!"

"What!? Are you crazy? You couldn't go there alone, and I wouldn't help you in such a stupid journey!"

"I don't need your help Xena!", Gabrielle shouted, her eyes definitely watering, her beautiful face red from anger. "I'm a free human being and I'll do what I think it's the best!"

Gabrielle finally went away, without looking behind her. Xena watched her, and for a moment seemed like she was going to call her, but she didn't. And for another moment seemed like she was going to cry too, but a stonehearted expression finally came to her face and she murmured to herself: "Maybe it's better that way", and mounted Argo to ride in the opposite direction.

Gabrielle finally wiped the tears from her eyes. I'll do great without her, she thought, I know a better place to go to the underworld. Being a bard has such advantages, you know some things other people don't. Specially damned stupid warriors, she thought.

She went to Eleusis, to the near temple of Demeter. The Goddess knows how to go to the underworld, Gabrielle thought, as she reached the temple. The high priestess of the mysteries was outside, like waiting for her.

"Good morning, high priestess", Gabrielle said, trying to smile. "I come here looking for purification to take part in the mysteries of the Goddess."

"Why do you want that?", the priestess asked, smiling in confidence.

"I need to go to the underworld. It's very important."

"I see you really need to do that terrible thing. And I can see your soul is pure, you don't need purification."

"Don't I?", Gabrielle asked surprised.

"No. You can go to the sacred cave up the mountain and go directly to the underworld following the way of Persephone, daughter of the Goddess."

"How will I succeed in that journey, priestess?", asked Gabrielle, happy to see all was running fine.

"You'll tell Charon this words: Demeter sends me to her daughter. That way he will take you to the other side. Then you'll have to take the left path to the Elysian Fields."

Gabrielle smiled and said thanks to the priestess, not taking care of how the priestess knew she wanted to go exactly to the Elysian Fields. As she walked away, the priestess morphed into the figure of Ares, who laughed and laughed till he finally disappeared.

On her own way, Xena rode fast to the Alconian lake, where she time ago reached the underworld. The wind in her face took some tears from her eyes, but she wiped them away with her hand. But the lake was far away, and she had to stop for the night. She made a fire and lied on a blanket in front of it, trying to sleep. But she couldn't, and watching the fire took the image of Gabrielle's hair to her mind.

Am I stupid, she thought. If I'm looking for Lao Ma, why am I thinking of Gabrielle?, she asked herself. It's so lonely in here without her, and so cold, she thought. Still watching the fire, and with the image of Gabrielle on her eyes she finally went asleep, but before she murmured: "Gabrielle..."

At the same time, Gabrielle was watching a resembling fire while she was trying to sleep, outside the cave of Persephone. She decided to wait till the next day so she could start that difficult voyage after some sleeping.

But she couldn't sleep neither. She was lying on a blanket, and her thoughts went to her lover too. I'm so lonely without her, she thought. I miss her, damn!, she almost shouted. Her hands caressed her own breasts, and went down slowly between her tights. She moaned softly, but her eyes didn't show any pleasure: she was crying.

"I miss you so much Xena", she finally whispered, and she went asleep.

Xena awoke early. The feelings of the past night disappeared with the sunrise. Xena's face showed she was determined to reach the Elysian Fields and help Lao Ma. But somehow she was worried about Gabrielle. What's she doing now?, she thought.

Argo seemed worried too. Her gallop was faster than anytime before, and Xena did not need to make her hurry. So when she reached the lake Xena dived directly from Argo to the cold water. After a short but frenetically strong diving she reached the bottom of the lake and the boat of Charon.

"Hello once again, Charon", she said.

"Whaaat?? Once again?? What are you doing here?? Are you dead at least?", the boatman of the dead asked angrily.

"No, Charon, I'm alive and I want to cross the Styx."

"And I'm sure you won't pay me neither...", Charon murmured.

"No, only the dead pay. You know that. And if you don't, here's my sword to prove it", she said with a smile, taking her sword in her hands before her.

"Only the dead pay, only the dead... I know already... Once again... What will I do for a living?... First bards and now warriors... First spells, then swords... I'm fed up with this damned job!"

But Xena interrupted his resented speech: "What are you telling? Someone alive was here before me crossing the Styx??"

"Oh yes, one pretty blonde girl... yes she was pretty wasn't she?" At that point Charon winked one eye to Xena, then he continued: "But she didn't pay... she knew the words... what a f..."

Xena interrupted him once again: "Gabrielle was here? And she did cross??"

"Oh yes she did. That stupid girl went directly to the left after she crossed the Styx."

"To the LEFT??? How much time ago was that???", Xena asked shouting.

"Are you asking me how much time ago that was? Do you see any sun or moon in here? How in hell can I know how much time ago that was? I have to work and work without a rest for all the eternity and you ask me about time?"

At that moment, Xena held Charon in her hands, shaking him wildly.

"Ok, ok!! After that, there came an old woman from Orchomenos, and then three warriors who died battling in Platea, so not long ago I guess. And they all paid! But not everyone does, and if this cont..."

"Come on, I need to cross NOW", Xena interrupted once again, and her fierce expression made shut up even Charon. She threw him on the boat, and he finally helped Xena to cross the Styx river.

Xena jumped from the boat when they were near the opposite shore, and stood there for a second, looking left and right before she finally ran to the left.

This is what Xena saw in the distance: the dark gates of the Tartarus, where the damned are tortured eternally, and before them, the big and black figure of Cerberus. Big as a horse, the three-headed guard dog seemed even bigger compared with a little figure lying next to it.

"Gabrielle!", Xena shouted, and the little figure seemed to move a bit, but didn't answer. And yes, there she was Gabrielle, lying unconscious or dead. One of the heads of Cerberus saw Xena, and the other two did the same in a moment. With her characteristic shout, Xena took her sword in her hands again. The battle with Cerberus seemed impossible to win: Xena could only hit one head at time, while the others tried to bite her. And after all, its skin was made of bronze, so she couldn't cut its heads. But after a while, Xena threw her sword away and said: "Come here, little doggie, I'm waiting for you."

The big dog sprung directly on Xena, making the three jaws lash at time. Xena fell under its weight. But she held the three necks between her arms, oppressing them three at time with all the power of her desperation. After a long battle, the three heads fell one after another, and the monster dog lied unconscious on the floor.

Xena went away of it, and held Gabrielle between her arms, in a much more gentle hug. "Gabrielle... Gabrielle!... Tell me you're alive, please... this is no place to die", Xena shouted. At first she didn't notice a dark figure behind her, but then she said: "Hades... please help me... my love is..."

The figure in the black armour said: "She needs some water to get alive again, Xena. But you know the water in here will make her forget all. I can't help you, but maybe the help is in you."

"What are you telling? Forget about riddles! I need her back!"

But Gabrielle was pale, very pale, and Xena started to cry over her, still holding her in her arms. Then, one of Xena's tears fell between the lips of Gabrielle. Her lips moved, her eyes slowly opened and she murmured: "Xe... Xena... is it you?"

"Yes, yes it's me Gabrielle", and she continued crying, washing the dirt from her lover's face with her falling tears.

"Forgive me please, Gabrielle. I'm so stupid, I need you so much, what would I do without you?", Xena continued, trying to stop her cries.

Gabrielle put her arms around Xena's neck and said: "No, no, it's me who asks you to forgive me. I would be dead now without you."

"C'mon, c'mon, we'll forgive each other, hey?", said Xena, trying to smile.

"E-hem!" That was Hades still behind them, standing with his black helmet under his arm. "My doggie, as you called it, is going to be awake again in a moment, couldn't we go away?"

Xena took Gabrielle in her arms and walked carrying her as he followed the god of the Underworld. They went to the right, finally reaching the doors of the Elysian Fields. A bright light came out from them, and that seemed to get Gabrielle healthy again. She stood up, with her arms still around Xena's neck.

"What do we do now, Xena?", she asked. "I don't need to see Perdicus again. I only need you, my love."

"I'm sure about that. And you know that I don't need anyone else than you. But maybe we should go inside and help our former lovers if we can. But only if you agree", Xena answered.

"Ok Xena, let's see what we can do about. But I promise you'll be the only one, whatever happens in there."

"And you're my one and only love, Gabrielle. You know I had some other lovers before, but you'll be the last one, for the rest of my life. And I promise that with Hades as witness", Xena smiled.

Then Hades interrupted: "You'll see things are a bit different as you thought in there", he said pointing to the gates. "But you have my permission to stay in the Elysian Fields for one year and leave it when you want. Enjoy it", and he disappeared.

Holding Xena's hand in her hand and walking with her side by side, Gabrielle went through the bright doors of the Elysian Fields.

All in the Elysian Fields seemed alright. The green fields, the bright light, the little forests and the rumour of water were all as they dreamed before. They walked through it all, looking for Perdicus and Lao Ma between the groups of happy people here and there. They finally found them in between a group who was partying under a big tree. But they didn't seem desperate; they were laughing and dancing in different little groups.

"Xena!", Lao Ma shouted, surprised but very happy. They hugged each other, and they shared a kiss. But then Xena held her in her arms and said: "Lao Ma, here's Gabrielle, my lover."

"Hello", said Gabrielle, looking a bit embarrassed.

But Lao Ma held her in her arms, and hugged and kissed her in the same way she did with Xena before.

"I'm happy to meet you, Gabrielle. I know already about Xena and you. Someone told me all", she smiled, introducing Perdicus.

"Perdicus", Gabrielle said, looking scared again.

"Gabrielle, don't worry. I know - I knew all about you and Xena. And I'm happy to see you happy with her. I didn't expect a yes when I proposed. It was only my last try. I was so surprised when you agreed to marry me. But I knew that couldn't work. Your love for Xena was too strong, everyone could see that", Perdicus said, and they hugged and kissed each other too.

"Perdicus... I don't know what to say...", Gabrielle whispered.

"Don't say anything. I wasn't really true to you. I had a lover before you, during my mercenary days. She was dead before I proposed, but she's now with me in here. Gabrielle, this is Larissa. Larissa, this is Gabrielle."

Larissa was a little redheaded girl, with a nice smile and big brown eyes. They shared hellos and smiles, when Lao Ma told Xena: "Uh, I've not been alone neither, Xena. This is Suu Kyi. She was my first lover on Earth, a slave girl like me. I never saw her again since we were sold, but when I died she was in here waiting for me. Xena, this is Suu Kyi. Suu Kyi, I told you many things about her, this is Xena." A pretty china girl was standing discreetly behind Lao Ma, smiling.

They all smiled, hugged, started to talk about their lives and loves when Xena interrupted: "This all is great, but why did you both call us? Where are the troubles? All seems perfect."

"We didn't call you. But we know what happened. I think all will be clear in short", Lao Ma said, and at that moment Aphrodite appeared behind them, with a tricky smile on her face.

"Hel-looo. It's sooo nice to see so many people in love!", she happily said.

"What's this all about, Aphrodite?", Xena asked.

"It was another thrill of Ares, my love. But you defeated him once again, and this time without even knowing you were doing. I'm so proud of you both. I'll show you something", Aphrodite answered, making the magic pile appear beneath them. They watched the water, and the scene reflected on it was really strange. They could see a green field, but it was on Earth. There were lots of now peaceful soldiers, mercenaries and warlords, playing and dancing all around with many peasant girls. They were giving some bouquets of flowers to the girls, who accepted them with smiles and kisses. But if that wasn't strange enough, they could see Ares, the terrible God of War, who was frenetically collecting the flowers and giving them to the warriors. Aphrodite shook her head and the scene faded out, then she said:

"It will go that way for one year. Thanks to you and Gabrielle, Xena, and the love you share. So I guess you'll have a year without needing to help or protect anyone... What will you do in between?", the goddess winked and smiled, disappearing.

Xena held Gabrielle between her arms, saying: "I don't know what happened, but I know I love you even more than before. What do you think? We could spend one year in this beautiful place... we could see our dead relatives, rest a bit..."

"I could spend the next year loving you, Xena, and then the rest of my life", Gabrielle said, kissing the warrior princess... They went discreetly away, to the shore of a lake, lying there on the grass.

"We need to refresh a bit, don't we?", Xena asked.

"Mmmm, I need...", Gabrielle answered, going behind Xena and taking her leathers away. They got each other naked in a moment, and then they dived in the fresh water. Their hands rubbed the sweat one from another, then the caresses went further and they kissed.

"Do you think there will be some fish in this lake?", Xena asked when their heads separated.

"Mmmmm Xena, I think you found one...", Gabrielle smiled giggling.

Then they went out of the water, lying once again on the grass, naked. Xena was lying on her back, and Gabrielle was lying on top of her, their heads very close.

"Mmmm, you're so wet, someone has to do something about that, Xena."

"And will you be the one, Gabrielle? Please?"

"Ohhhh yes I will...", Gabrielle answered, her hands and tongue running down slowly from her neck. She stopped at her firm breasts, giving them both kisses, caresses and some biting too, till Xena moaned. Then Gabrielle's playful tongue run down between Xena's breasts to her navel. But she continued down and down, till Xena shouted:

"¡Ohhhh please Gabrielle, don't tease me! Go for it!", and took her lover's hair in her hands, guiding Gabrielle where she wanted her to be. Lots of moans and pleasure, arching of back and not so tender caresses finally ended in a deep last moan. Gabrielle climbed up Xena again, a hungry expression on her smiling face.

"I love you so much, Xena. I love to give you pleasure even more than receive it... but maybe now you could...", Gabrielle smiled.

"I could.... mmm, yes I could. More than that, I want it!", Xena said, her hands rubbing her lover's body on her, running down her back and reaching her gorgeous butt.

"Put your legs around my hips, Gabrielle", Xena said, and Gabrielle did so, her round and adorable breasts almost lying on Xena's face. Xena sucked her hard nipples, first one, then the other, then started once again. In between, her hands were exploring down, one before her lover and another behind. Gabrielle's eyes were closed, and she whispered softly:

"Yes... yessss my love... more a bit more..."

Then, Xena took Gabrielle's butt firmly in her hands, bringing her up to her head, Gabrielle kneeling on Xena's face. "I'll make you ask for a stop", Xena said smiling before her head went deep between Gabrielle's tights. For long time it didn't seem like Gabrielle was going to ask her to stop. Just the opposite, all what could be understood between her moans was: "More, ohhhh, more, please, Xena, don't stop, do it..."

But she finally fell on the grass beneath Xena, exhausted, and they both looked each other in the eyes, expressing their love without words. After a while Gabrielle said, caressing Xena's face:

"Do you think we'll survive to a whole year like this?", and she smiled.

"Oh, we'll see. We will have to try and see, don't we?", Xena answered, smiling too.
