This was an amazing story. You could almost picture the childlike Xena and feel the determination of Gabrielle to protect her. well done - mapsnika - Sep-08-2008

This is one of my favorite Xena stories. The determination Gabrielle shows is awe inspiring. - Anonymous - Oct-25-2009

This was a good story. Well worth taking the time to read. - uber goober - Nov-18-2009

I love stories that show Gabrielle as more than just the weak bystander as she's too often portrayed on the show.Kudos to Ah-Ladis for this gem. - Anonymous - Dec-17-2010

By the Gods, I don't know how this story got away from me. It was categorized on some websites under uber, perhaps that's why, but I am sure glad I read it. What an adventure, what a ride! I enjoyed this so much that I couldn't stop reading it but then I had to put it down for a bit because I was approaching the end and I didn't want it to end. And then it did end. And I wanted more. Much more. Oh, well. I wish there had been a sequel, even a short story to tie up some lose ends between Xena and Gabrielle. This story was so imaginative, so creative and the writer was so adept at portraying the characters within the plot. The depiction of Xena as a child, Gabrielle's agony and determination to protect Xena from those who would do her harm and her perseverance to get her medical help, at all costs was so riveting. The author also had some very believable and interesting original characters that moved the action along, fleshing out the story more effectively, giving it the blood and bones of one hell of a whirl. Often you get a great story, but it's executed poorly. Or a formulaic story that's well written. Here you get both. I loved this Xena, her innocence and playfulness, yet her willingness to please "the pretty lady", even when it caused her physical pain, kind of reminded me of my grrlfriend, the heart of a warrior, with a gentle soul, enduring so much mental and physical abuse, yet remaining strong and silent for her "la-dee". And Gabrielle's pain and loss of the Xena she once knew, the torment and suffering she endures of wanting her warrior back, brought tears to my eyes. This was such a great read. - kazy - Oct-30-2012

Duende by AH-Ladis
Original / Uber | Modern | Alternative | Horror | Short Story - 11 pages | Finished | Oct-02
Cast: Livvy
Links: Lynka's Amazontrails
This is a short Halloween story loosely based on the Jack & Jill nursery rhyme. Its name 'Duende' is a Spanish word meaning bait or lure.
Duened has a different meaning in my island. It is told that a duende is a lost child with no face and feet backwards. If a parent were to call out his or her child the duen would take on that voive of the parent and pull that child mentaly into the woods to be lost forever. Nice story - DarkWater - Aug-17-2012
