This was very well written, professionally well written, not to mention how creative it was as well. It earns 10 stars in my book. An amazing short story that should be archived in every Xenite's folder for posterity. - Karon Reiter - Aug-10-2010

'Round and 'round we go! Will the day never end? ;) I'm glad I didn't miss this, it is one very good story. I'm going to put on my ME tee and read more from this bard. - Kaye - Jan 9th, 2003

Seems I'm a day late, a dollar short and won't get to read more from this bard as I wanted. She's had to remove her stories. What a damn shame and loss to the xenaverse. :( - Kaye - Jan 9th, 2003

loved it! utterly beautiful story! thanks, bard :) - Kati - Jun-23-2006

I love Charlotte Bell. It's nearly 1AM. I'm actually grateful you haven't finished it yet, otherwise I wouldn't be getting to bed tonight. I could not put your work down. What a colorful and gifted writer. You have me right 'there' in your writing. Thank you. - Anonymous - Jun-21-2006

What a remarkable work! Angelrad captures the flavor of Bronte's original, both in her prose and in the atmosphere she evokes. This story earns my highest recommendation. - ldp - Jun-22-2006

Okay, you have now finished Charlotte Bell, and I am awed by your sentences, your creativity in bringing the reader to the time and space of Charlotte and Jane. There were hundred of sentences that rippled across their page stirring my imagination, my five senses. So glad I read this amazing work. I recommend it on the highest level. - Anonymous - Jun-22-2006

I...I'm stunned! Completely speechless! What and outstanding story. Angelrad is truly gifted. - Reese - Jun-22-2006

Well deserved number one. This was a well written, engaging story that more than satisfies! If you are off put in the begining by the older style of writing...read on - it's worth it! - Anonymous - Jun-27-2006

Excellent story, brilliant writing style and well worth your time. Although as with another of AngelRad's stories (Where There's Smoke) I did yearn for more interaction between the two lead characters. But don't let that deter you, I could'nt put it down once I'd started. - Sai - Jul-05-2006

wow - excellent - raddan - Jul-25-2006

It's such a surprise to me how good this story is. This is completely different from all her other stories in tone, imagery, intricacy of language. She really captured the best of Austen and the style of that time. I highly recommend this story. - Anonymous - Sep-03-2006

Amazingly well done. Emulates the genre perfectly. Everyone that loves classic literature should read this story. You will not be disappointed. - jd - Jan-22-2007

Absolutely amazing. Amongst the barrage of fics these days, rarely does a story ever deviate from the normal script. Your command of the English language is awe inspiring. Thank you for sharing it with us. - Kayla - Feb-19-2007

I've set out to read something to pass the time but what I've found in this story was breathtaking. Have you ever questioned "fate" ? Have it ever come in an unexpected packet? I really loved this story, very heart warming at time and can reach into one's ill weak emotion. I would recommend this story to anyone, you will be in for quite a surprise... - Kuu-chan - Apr-17-2007

This is one of those stories that, once you start it you cannot put it down. I hadn't realized that 3 hours passed as I was reading it. Angelrad's style of writing is second to none. I highly recommend this one. Well done. - A fan - Mar-26-2008

Absolutely AWESOME story. I've read all of her stuff and she is by far one of my favorites. - Anonymous - Apr-12-2008

This is just a kick ass story. I read it without stopping, except to go get another cup of tea. WOW. A MUST read. If you don't you're missing out. - justacitygirl - Jun-02-2008

Probably the best piece of literature on this site. If this author isn't published, she should be. Her goal to be reminiscent of the Brontes takes this gothic romance to new heights. - Anonymous - Aug-30-2008

I have read this story many times. It is truly one of the finest stories ever posted here. - Anonymous - Oct-03-2008

An amazing story - Anonymous - Jul-19-2009

What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I was totally engrossed. Angelrad is a grand teller of tales. I enjoyed this immensely. I am making it a point to read all she has written, and I bet I won't be disappointed. Good job, A. - Anonymous - May-08-2010

This is a captivating and intense story. Unique and engaging. Thank you for sharing this wonderful story with us. - Anonymous - Jul-12-2010

I have to say, I've read many, many stories on this site. Angelrad, by far, is my favorite. She knows how to tell a tale with style. If you've not read this one, be sure you do. It will not disappoint. - A Fiction Reader - Sep-01-2010

WOW! What a story. Started reading it and didn't stop until it was done (well except to go to the potty) Very engaging and well written. Kudos to you! - CantStopReading - Jun-22-2011

You know, I never liked Jane Eyre. She always seemed far too willing to overlook monumental flaws in the way she was treated. The independent part of me just rebelled. This story though, goes a long way toward quelling that rebellion. This was a tightly crafted story with a nice style. - Kerr - Jun-28-2012

What a great story. I chose it because I thought it would be a nice little story to read. When I started, I couldn't stop and stayed up until the wee hours of the morning reading it. WOW! If you don't take the time to read this one... you're missing out.

Well done. - Wheezie - Apr-19-2014

Incredibly beautiful retelling of Jane Eyre. The author is talented beyond measure. I would easily believe she wrote this in the 19th century if I didn't know better. It was like reading Charlotte Bronte's own work. As a huge Jane Eyre fan, this was a dream come true. Thank you for sharing your lovely work. - AnnaCorinn - Oct-23-2015

Great story. Do yourself a favour and read it. Very well written and enjoyable - msprism - Apr-28-2007

This story gives a warning to all the bards out there that have writers block and what kind of trouble you could get yourself into because of it. Very entertaining. - Sai - May-01-2007

Reminds me of a situation I was once in. I really liked this story and which there were more like it by Angel. - Anonymous - Apr-12-2008

A unique story with humor, emotion, and yes it is sexy. Well worth the read - Anonymous - Jan-26-2010

Angelrad, i like it...should have more short stories like this. - easteden - Feb-11-2010

Quirky story that scaled the emotional highs and a few lows too. Funny and bittersweet. It would have been nice to have seen this short story expanded to see where they're going. Nice. - Lyn B - Apr-07-2011

A really great short story, tumultuous emotions run rampant and veer dangerously close to reality at times!! Well worth the read.. - Anfor - Sep-06-2011

The Castle and the Tomb by Angelrad
Original / Uber | Pre-1900 | Alternative | Romance (alt) | Short Story - 13 pages | Unfinished | Apr-09
One of my favorite classics is Sheridan Le Fanu's Carmilla& It's a beautiful story with lots of interesting subtext -which was quite racy for 1872 when it was written& but because it is so old, most of the subtext is barely detectable& I'd always imagined there could be more depth to it& So this is my re-imagining of Carmilla with a whole lot more layers in plot&)
This is going to be another great one! I cant wait for the rest. I am always so happy when this bard posts a new one. Please do yourself a favor and read this, you will be begging for more. - RCP - Apr-28-2009

nice one! can't wait for the rest - Dwee - Jul-05-2011

Fascinating story as I am fascinated by Vampires. I didn't realize the story was incomplete, otherwise I would never have started it. Seems unlikely it will be ever completed. What a shame, I will never know the authors intentions. - Thothgirl - May-14-2013

I see you universe. Trickster.
I mostly read this to get a different perspective on Carmilla. I hesitated though because it is unfinished and would leave me unsatisfied. But it is a solid start. - Anonymous - Mar-24-2016

This story completely blew me away. A lead I could relate to and a fun little mystery. I hope this isn't the last we're gonna see of these two... - Anonymous - May-15-2006

I like AngelRad's writing style. This is very pleasant to read, it has an easy delightful flow to it. My only criticism is I would have like more interaction between the two main characters. Otherwise a really good tale. - Sai - May-31-2006

another fantastic story by Angelrad. love getting lost in her work. this is excellent. - msprism - Apr-28-2007

I read "Charlotte Bell" and went on a search for this author. She's got style, she's got pizzaa, and you have to read her stuff. One of the best around. - justacitygirl - Jun-02-2008

Interesting mystery. - 1234 - Oct-05-2009

I really liked this tale by Angelrad. I think it is one of my favorite stories that was written by this author. - uber goober - Mar-23-2010
