But an encounter at a hospital's Accident & Emergency department turns her priorities, her life and her heart upside down.
This story was AWESOME!!! A MUST READ for all! It puts together just the right amount of mystery, danger and romance all rolled up in one. Her characters draw you in straight away. It is about a woman trying to find someone. She searches high and low but realizes her search ends where it began with finding herself. I can't tell you enough how good this story is. Between the bad guys, a missing person, drugs, and other mysterious happenings, you will find a cleverly crafted story built around 2 characters you will fall in love with as you watch them fall in love with each other. This author uses her words to create visions that dance in your heart and paint for your soul. You will want to visit where these girls go, cheer for them, cry & sigh as their relationship grows and they come face to face with their fears, real or imagined. Bumpy roads, tears, and a sweet tenderness as well as some humor. The scenery is gorgeous and when words can create that in your mind, you gotta love this story and the creativity of this writers efforts. Book of the month? Guess which is tall & blue eyed! A story that is kind of sweet, but has danger, flight, bad guys, mystery all entwined with a soulmate love tale with some pitfalls. Dialogue is really good and descriptions of places, feelings and actions are so full of depth that you feel like a part of it. Hated to see it end & hope Devize writes a sequel. Striker and Morien are two of the best characterisations I have seen yet (and I eat a lot of uber!). This story is a gem and I hope there is more to come. Besides doing a fabulous job with the leads, Devize deserves a standing ovation for her carefully crafted minor characters. I have to admit that I knew how it was going to end once I figured out who Storey was but the story was so compellingly written that I stayed up late to finish reading it. It was sad yet at times Kate's thoughts made me smile. In a way, the story reminded me a little of the TV program Dead Like Me which I like a lot. Beautiful story, so unique. feels like something's fluttering inside; it's the wonder and reverence i always feel when reading Devize's work :) it has me hooked. i've never read anything like it and that's saying something. also it's reassuring that it's just a beginning for this story (right?)thank you Devize for another Gem! - Katrina - May 10th, 2005    At the beginning of this story are words "There are nights that change your life......" Well, there are writers who enter your mind and heart, and Devize is one who infiltrates both of mine. The mini stories within the main have a common theme or thread that both consume your interest and reach inside of you.To say "Word Wizard" or "Mistress of Deception and Deliciously chosen descriptions of body, soul and settings" wouldn't be complimentary enough to this writer. Having read her full length novel, MISPLACED PEOPLE, the short story,THE OTHER SIDE, and now this shorter yet,STILL LIFE, I am taken in and taken to places & meeting characters that linger in one's mind. The versatility of her mind that spills over into her stories, characters & places is wonderfully fulfilling as you read fitting dialogue with bits of humor even in the middle of devastation at times. This is one author whose stories I read and then read again. STILL LIFE is anything you may think it is before you read it.
