Summer - 1974. Hot, sticky and filled with promise. Days filled with nothing but what my imagination could conjure up - and that could be pretty frightening. Lou Turner loves Ashley Richards. Always has - always will. This is her story - a story spanning thirty years, from the innocence of childhood to the bitterness of adulthood. But can Lou use her beginnings to shape her future?
WoW! .....Just................Wow! I gotta say, that was some very special story. Myself and two of my friends read it within days of each other, and we all agreed it was awesome. Well written, lots of emotion, great character descriptions. You didn't waffle on where there was no point. (which I thank you for immensely)All in all, a very good story and I say well done! Hope to be reading more of your stories soon. Thanks for sharing - Kelly - Dec 19th, 2005

Once again a masterpiece!! Oh if only I could write like you!!I say, Get thee to a publisher! xox - KTBard - Dec 20th, 2005

This is a great story, very well written. - Chris - Dec 20th, 2005

I had to read on account of Fingersmith's other stories. They were all good. I enjoyed this one because I can relate to having the same feelings that the protagonist is feeling. Kudos to the author and her wonderful work. - Mary - Dec 23rd, 2005

A wonderful story, and I couldn't stop reading it till I reached the end. The narration was fantastic and it was very cleverly written. Can't wait to read more. If you haven't read this yet - read it now. You won't be disappinted. God no. - Jen - Dec 24th, 2005

What a marvelous read! Writing in first person is daring and this author has fulfilled the dare with style. The story is full up with angst, humor, love and just plain real life. I'd recommend the novel to my Mom (she's a former teacher and a fellow reader of the "avid" ilk) - and that's the highest compliment I can give. Thanks for sharing your talent Fingersmith, you've been added to my short list of favorites! - Therese - Dec 26th, 2005

Wow! What can I say? The writing, as expected, is top notch, the characters vivid and realistic. Awesome stuff again Finger! Love the character of Ashley. Gotta love a narky copper!!!!! - Polar - Dec 29th, 2005

Wow! One of the greatest! I still can't believe how high the level of the stories around here can be!
It's amazing, those people are true writers! Some of them are even better than the ones who publish real books, in the real world! Fingersmith definitely is anyway.
Her style is fluent, smart, and funny. She brings intensity to the scenes that makes you hold your breath. Sexual tension between the two heroins is almost unbearable sometimes. Makes you wanna go in the cool fresh air for a while... and then run back to the reading! ; )

- yuka - Jun-20-2009

loved the humour in the beginning.. especially the part where the siblings tease lou about their mother's reaction after lou was born.. laughed out loud at that one.. highly recommend this story!! - xtra dog - Jun-06-2011

I can't believe there are some people, or one person, who takes great delight in giving stories a bad rating to make themselves feel better. I have witnessed the constant decrease in the ratings of this story over a period of time and honestly believe there is some saddo out there who is getting off on this. I have written to Fingersmith who, obviously, is disturbed that anyone would do that. Sneakily adding bad ratings is NOT a review. It is a sign of cowardice. Personally, I thank this author and all the other authors out there who post their stories for our entertainment with no expectation of payment. At this rate we will end up with nothing. - CH - Nov-25-2011

^^ I agree with CH. Whoever is deliberately giving these amazing stories bad ratings is a sad jealous fuck. End of.
These are some of the best stories out there. So if you are new to reading these, don't pay attention to the ratings, as they aren't accurate. Read the reviews, it speaks volumes about how brilliant and talented this woman is. Fingersmith is the best in my opinion. - AC - Nov-29-2011

really good. must read - Anonymous - Dec-06-2011

Seems like someone is still giving this story a bad rating. What IS your problem? Get over yourself. - Trish - Apr-06-2012

I don't understand why this story is rated so low. 10,10. Now whoever the person who rated so lowly is one more vote closer to not mattering. - Dee - May-23-2012

Critical by Fingersmith
Original / Uber | Modern | Alternative | Romance (alt) | Novel - 178 pages | Finished | Apr-10
Restaurant owner, Claire Connolly, initially believes Jennifer Cartwright collapses on purpose to see how she will cope with the situation. But it soon comes to light that someone is behind it all and is not going to stop until he exacts his revenge on the dark haired food critic. Bring in Fiona Houghton - smart and willing to go the extra mile. It isn't long before she is on the trail of a man intent on destruction, and he doesn't care who he destroys along the way. A tale of murder, kidnapping, and devastating obsession. How on earth can something as fragile as blossoming love come from this? Simple. Love is stronger than everything. Isn't it?
I love this story and the third person style it's written in! The characterizations are great and this story is filled with suspense, angst, romance, and humor! Very well done! Can't wait for a sequel!! - Anonymous - Apr-27-2010

This story hooks you right from the beginning, the only thing missing is a sequal. - Anonymous - Apr-30-2010

gorgeous. i love reading your work! - Anonymous - May-01-2010

Fantastic, as usual. Although this is written in third person, not Fingersmith's usual style, it is still a gripping read. And by the looks of the ratings, it looks as if the sad bastard who always tries to undermine the writings these writers do for OUR enjoyment, is back. Shame on them. [Editor's Note: A "critic" is a man who creates nothing and thereby feels qualified to judge the work of creative men. There is a logic in this; he is unbiased--he hates all creative people equally. -- Robert A. Heinlein 5-3-2010] - CH - May-03-2010

The characters and plot will hook you and not let go until you finish. - jerseygirl - May-04-2010

one of my favorite writers!!! - Anonymous - May-04-2010

Another wonderful story by an all time favourite writer. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a great read with well rounded characters. Grab a cuppa, sit back and enjoy. You won't be sorry. - Anonymous - May-08-2010

Loved the use of the third person voice. It allowed the reader to get into the heads of both characters. This is a very good read from a very talented bard. - wasabigrrl - May-10-2010

Fantastic. What more could we want from a story? This has everything needed to make an impression and make you wish there was a sequel. Hope Fingersmith is reading this. Come on girl. Time to get writing. We need more. - Chelz - May-30-2010

That was such an intense story. I couldn't stop reading and I did not until the "End". It was flowing, it was precise and, again, so intense!
I'm waiting for a sequel... - karf - Jun-08-2010

I couldn't stop reading this. It is, like all this writer's stories, amazing. Excellent plot, excellent characters, and an overwhelming need to know what happens next. Very well written, as usual. All I need now is a sequel. If you haven't read it, make sure you do. You won't be disappointed. Far from it, in fact. - JM - Jun-13-2010

Fingersmith style of writing is brilliantly funny. This story is insightful/exciting and captured me from the very beginning. - Trish - Jun-15-2010

EXCELLENT, GREAT CHARACTERS AND STORY CAN'T WAIT FOR THE SEQUEL - Lumor - Jun-19-2010

I can't wait for the sequel.. - Anonymous - Aug-04-2010

Perfect. Like usual. - immie - Oct-08-2010

Wow! of course you have to recommend something this sneaky good. It seems like it will be just a simple tale but as it unfolds it gets better. Love the treatment of the side characters of Laura and the police detective. Good work Fingersmith. I think everyone will agree, a sequel is a great idea as well. - toni - Oct-21-2010

Loved everything about this story, funny and lovable cast of characters that will have you cheering every step of the way. - brighteyez - Nov-29-2010

Absolutely worth a read, but make sure you have time in the near future
To finish it since it's all you'll want to do. It has everything and yes you will be at the edge of your seat all throughout. For not having done 3rd person before

Dwelling in the Past by Fingersmith
Original / Uber | Modern | Alternative (Mature) | Romance (alt) | Novella - 134 pages | Finished | Apr-05
Cast: Abbie, Kaate
Honors/Awards:  Perennial Favorite Award: #13 in 2005, #17 in 2006, #16 in 2007     Top-25 #1.
Abbie Jameson needs to escape her life. A writer with no muse, and a marriage with no love. She retreats to Yorkshire in a bid to find her true self. But the self she finds is not what she was expecting. Only the dark, enigmatic Kate Thomas can help her discover the truth. Although a supernatural vein flows through this story, it is ultimately about love, self-discovery and the realisation that all we have to do is let go and believe.
Living near where the events in Yorkshire occured added a great dimension to an already atmospheric supernatural tale. I loved the character of Kate, a wonderfully brooding uber X! Highly recommended second story from a great new writer. - sapphie - Apr 25th, 2005

Wonderful! A definite must-read! I loved Hearts and Flowers Border but this is so much darker and more intense, I think I may prefer it more. The characters are tantalisingly well-developed (for me, the dark and sultry Kate Thomas is a definite dead-ringer for LL in HOD - yum!). Though there is a supernatural element, it never detracts from the hot and steamy growing passion between Abbie and Kate, so if you're not one for ghost stories don't let it put you off! The ending I think is very well done - not what I was expecting! But I don't think it could have been done any other way. Excellent! Another brilliant story from this new gifted writer - you're not just a one-hit wonder!! From your number one fan xx - Julie - Apr 25th, 2005

Excellent. What a story!!! The plot is believable and the characters are as sexy as hell! I think the ending was my favourite part. Well done Fingersmith!! Please write more! - Sophie - Apr 26th, 2005

In this second offering from Fingersmith, we the very fortunate reader are not let down one bit from the high we were on from Hearts and Flowers Border. Dwelling in the Past is a wonderful story that twists and turns and sometimes leaves your heart in your throat! I thought the writing was incredible....Fingersmith has a gift....a wonderful ability to shape an image perfectly for the readers mind. I personally think she is a master of descriptive writing! I certainly hope she doesn't stop anytime soon! Good on ya Fingersmith!!! - Asgard - Apr 27th, 2005

What can I say that hasn't already been said about Fingersmith and her writing talents? She's an awesome writer and one that I will continue to watch out for in the future. I wish I were writing this good in my second story. lol. Although Dwelling in the Past is so very different from Hearts and Flowers Border, it's just as good. And man, can Fingersmith write a steamy sex scene. ;) So, give this great story a read. You will not be disappointed. - MSAnderson - Apr 27th, 2005

it's a gud story, boring in some parts, just a little long, but over all a funny read - tarvvy - May 3rd, 2005

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Good plot and characters. I have to disagree with tarrvy - I didn't find any boring bits, and it wasn't long enough. Everything was needed to make a really good read. It was funny and sexy. - Karen - May 4th, 2005

I really loved this story and would recommend it without question. I could not put it down. Wonderful new author! Thanks, Fingersmith. - Summer Sun - May 4th, 2005

I highly recommend this story!! I read 'hearts and flowers border' not long ago and it's a fascinating story!! Now Fingersmith came up with another just as good. Different from her first attempt to fiction this one sounds rather dark and spooky, makes one wonder that with a flick of the wrist your everything can turn to nothing. And even so the characters get drawn to one another by something more powerful, to finally walk out of the dark. Wonderful! Wonderful story! Perfectly written! I totally disagree with tarvvy, it's not boring at all. And it didn't seem long enough either cause when I reached the end I was somehow willing to have more to read. Well done, Fingersmith!! - Jo - May 5th, 2005

wow ! this story is so intense is really deep,,,I wish I can discribe my love life the way fingersmith discribe the love of these two women.....very powerful..so unique . Keep up the good work ....and this story deserves a sequel.... oh yeah!!! - arly - May 10th, 2005

Had to read this after I had read Hearts and Flowers Border. I loved it! Loved it. Scary at times, and kind of dark, but the main characters were excellently described and I felt like I was there. A thoroughly enjoyable read and I would recommend this to anyone. Couldn't put it down. Thank you Fingersmith and keep up the writing! Please! - Jenny - Aug 7th, 2005

What a delight! You've seen the references in previous comments to the "dark" nature of this tale, but for me there were hidden sparkling gems. References to American music, movies and cartoons(Scooby-Doo) with the interspersed English idioms such as "gob smacked" brought a smile to my face time and again! This is one talented author!! What a well-crafted, thghtly-woven story! Thanks yet again, Fingersmith, for sharing your wonderful imagination in such a stellar manner. - Therese - Dec 26th, 2005

Definetly a interesting read .A love story with a bit of spook involved.Read it youll understand.Gotta love Kate and Abbie. The characters are great. - Anonymous - Jan 5th, 2006

What a story! So many emotions in here and it scared the crap out of me at times too. This is so atmospheric and cleverly written. Well done, Fingersmith. Any chance of a sequel? - Vicky - Jan 17th, 2006

What a read! I read Beginnings first and then this. I was not disapponted. What fantastic characters. Makes me remember my teenage years well (ugh). Young love in all its uncertain glory. Priceless. - Nell - Aug-20-2006

OMG! This was an awesome story! Wow! - Anonymous - Sep-28-2006

I remember this story being n1 quite some time ago, but it never received it's little honorary medal. It's an amazing read and the author delivered to us a very original plot, as always. Go, Fingersmith. You have the biggest medal in your fan's hearts. - fingersmithfan! - Jun-05-2007

awww i love that you include new recommendations in the 'what's new' section! it makes me remember and return to the well-loved stories such as this one. just saw the latest one - amen to that!! this one leaves you in the state of complete breathlessness and an incurable case of warm fuzzies. Fingersmith never does anything halfway :) - Kat - Jun-11-2007

Another fantastic read from a wonderful writer, this is the second Xena uber story from Fingersmith. She has the abillity to place you rigth in the scene and take you along in her story, and make her characters realy real.
If ya haven't read any of her story's this is a good place to start. It's scary, humores and well....hot.
Ya wont regret it. - Callisto - Feb-07-2008

It's fingersmith's stories that make us keep coming back for more online fiction. Where else would you read a story such as this? Try one of her stories, and I guarantee you'll come begging for another one. - calabria - Feb-08-2008

Good story and characters. Though the best thing about this story is the wonderful way the language is used. Very nice. Embellished without being opulent. - Ape - Feb-15-2008

Great story!!! Lots of hot, hot, scenes. I usually don´t read stories with "ghosts" but... this one changed my mind. - Yavanna - Aug-27-2008

A very intriguing story of passion that outlasts death. This one's Hot. - wasabigirl - Oct-05-2008

Fantastic story and great characters. I love Fingersmith's style of writing sometimes cynical but also hilarious with a mixture of comedy and drama. Just wish it had been longer but still definitely worth a read! - Melikins - Oct-07-2008

Great story...I love the way you write. I wish this could have gone on and on. Very hot/steamy story. - Lea Ann - Feb-26-2009

Great supernatural suspence and intrigue. Fingersmith is particularly good at expressing the love between two characters, whether it be small subtle glances and touches, or full blown steamy action sessions. Be warned, this is hotter than hell. - Sai - Mar-12-2009

Excellent... as always. - yuka - Jun-21-2009

This was an awesome story. It had my heart racing and lodged in my throat because of the suspense and the detailed scenery and the emotions of the characters. (It also didn't help that I finished reading this a 2:30 a.m. I couldn't go to sleep for a long while because I kept seeing some of the images in the story when I closed my eyes) Anyway, excellent story!!!! This author never fails to thrill me. - Nikki T - Jul-24-2009

loved this, thx - 15a - Jul-31-2009

Fantastic! I love all Fingersmith's work and this being in the third person is just as good as anything else she has written. A definite read for anyone who loves a great story. PS What's with all the ads? Moderator? - LouS - Sep-04-2011

Best story ever! Should be published! My favourite. Fingersmith is clearly a brilliant and talented author. Thank you for sharing your stories with us. Can't wait to read more! - Amanda - Oct-27-2011

This is the BEST story EVER! Love Love Love Love. And in case I wasn't clear, I love this story. Fingersmith, you are amazing. :) - AC - Nov-29-2011

OMG OMG OMG i loooooooved this story!!! Definitely one of my favorite ubers of all!!! It drove me crazy with suspense and nearly mad with questions. I laughed till i cried, and sometimes cried with sadness and anger. Kate and Abbie's ancestors' stories broke my heart with the injustice and painfulness of it, but the love the two heroines share balances it.... barely. Overall an incredible story and one that won't soon be forgotten, neither characters nor the powerful message. Thank u thank u thank u. (ps the love scenes are epic. DO NOT read some parts of this at work or in public) - Max - Jun-12-2012

Wow! What a wonderfully well written love story. This tale has it all mystery, suspense and eternal love. Definetly recommend reading this author's work. - uber goober - Feb-06-2013

I cannot deny it. Fingersmith is my favourite British Author. Everytime I read a new short story or novel, I read her with a total dedication. I'm fully devoted to all her work. Why? You should ask. There is something on her way of approaching to the reader that appeals to me. It's a connection. When she tells the story, the reader is involved since the first paragraph. You could say it's like a magic spell. As for me, in spite of being under such a spell, I find Fingersmith a very good author who knows how to transmit and how to get you.
"Fin de Siécle" is a great story that keeps you intrigued until the end of it. What else can you expect? Heaven maybe? - Towanda - Jan-02-2010

Brilliant, as usual. Darker than Fingersmith's usual stuff, but totally captivating. - Megan - Feb-05-2010

Absolutely perfect, as usual. This write just begs to be read. - Holly - May-30-2010

An excellent read. Love the style of writing and the characters in this piece. Fingesmith's story telling seems to seep under your skin and make you feel the narrator is talking to you. The only downside is I wanted more. - Laurie - Aug-02-2010

Excellent. Very well written. Recommended. - Lyn B - May-08-2011

splendid mixture of humour and misery, philosophy, angst, love,.. loved this line: "Initially I thought it was my imagination, but then realised I didn't have one." pretty graphic too.. - xtra dog - Jun-05-2011

An excellent and intense story. Chilling, powerful, profound and romantic, Fingersmith creates a relationship between Helena and Charly that holds you until the last word. A lot of people have rated this highly and it deserves it. Read it. - Lyn B - Jun-18-2011

Fin is just wonderful. I love the creepy feeling throughout the story and the way everything falls together beautifully. Another amazing piece by an incredibly talented author. - Anonymous - Oct-27-2011

A visitor from her past jolts Laura Stewart into memories, some funny, some heart wrenching, but she needs to deal with all of them before she can open the door to allow her past to shape her future.
If you havent read this story yet...I can only say one thing: READ IT!!! And read it now!! Figersmith just striked me as a fantastically gifted writer! And this is her first attempt to fiction...go figure! It's a wonderful story... sweet, funny, with such captivating characters that we all can relate to. It is very well writen and it can reach anyone's heart with so much joy. It talks about lost love - a theme that can strike a chord in anyone who went/goes through similar situations. And it also talks about love, friendship and all the emotions and fears and insecurities we all have at some point in our lives. Laura's character has an amazingly great sense of humor, being sarcastic at the right times, making you laugh no end. I really enjoyed this story so much, so I'd like to recommend it to anyone who hasnt read it yet. - Cris (aka Poppet) - Mar 30th, 2005

I couldn't wait to see this story on the Atheneaum just so I could recommend it! I agree whole heartedly with Poppet...the story is wonderful and it is fantastically written. I actually read this twice in under two weeks!! You will not regret taking the time to read this fabulous story and you'll fall in love with the characters. Asgard - Asgard - Mar 30th, 2005

I think I might have fell in love with this story. I was hooked from the first paragraph to the last sentence. I would recommend this to anyone who has had a broken heart. You won't be disappointed. - Meg - Mar 31st, 2005

You will love this story!!! From beginning to end, it keeps you on the edge of your seat and on a roller-coaster ride of emotion. It is fast-paced, with never a dull moment, and you will surely fall in love with the characters as much as I have! Fingersmith is a truly gifted writer - witty one moment, delivering mouth-watering angst the next, all culminating in a climax of fulfilled dreams and a happy, happy ending (which, come on, we all love!!). I especially love the fictional scenario of supposed unrequited love, then discovering the passion is fully reciprocated - and Fingersmith manages to convey all this exquisitely!! She is a true, raw talent, who I think we'll all hear more from very soon - remember where you saw her first!! And Fingersmith, if you're reading this - if you publish we'll buy your books!!! From your Number One Fan! - Julie - Mar 31st, 2005

A real roller coaster...I laughed (Fingersmith has a wicked sense of humour), and I cried (touching moments, well written) and I got horny!!!! (Fingersmith can write a mean sex scene!!!). All praise for this first time story, I look forward to many more. BTW if Fingersmith reads this I'd like to email her to congratulate and comment further, but it seems her email addy isn't working from the end of the story. - sapphie - Apr 4th, 2005

I absolutely loved every single word written....mind blowing. So much so, I went out and bought the book as Hearts and Flowers Border is now in paperback. Author is known as L T Smith, not Fingersmith. Loved the original version but holding the book in my hands and looking at the full version...was not disappointed. All of my friends have read it and all of them, and believe me there were quite a few, adored it whether they have read online version or not. Please give us more. There are always two sides to every story. Well, actually there are three. Yours, mine, and more importantly, the truth. It all depends on what you want to believe, want to see, and who to trust. After years of not taking responsibility for her actions, Stephanie Stevenson realises she has become the woman she never wanted to be. Quitting her job as a reporter, she moves to Bassenthwaite, Cumbria, in an attempt to start over. Four years later, a beautiful woman moves into the cottage next to hers. Could she be the answer to Stephanie's prayers? Or will the arrival of her new neighbour dig up the reporter's past? A past Stephanie believes is best left buried? Erin Mason is not the average woman-next-door. She, too, holds secrets that are craving to raise their head once again. Could Stephanie be the one to unlock the memories? Or is it the other way around? Two women: one story. Their story.

She said she'd love me forever. But forever is a long time, as Beth Chambers found out. It always is when you're with the wrong woman. Once is her story.
I loved this one! It's simply superb!! Another magnificent story by Fingersmith! A must read indeed! Believe me, this one will make you laugh out loud so many times!!! And it will make you cry, will make you think. Such a delight and reflective at its best. You won't be disappointed!!
It's just so easy for us to judge, blame, set rules to what's right or wrong, when everything is so relative. And that's one of the things this story embraces so well. It makes you see things from a different perspective, look at the bigger picture. And to quote the Author (if I'm allowed to :) ... ''Whether you feel the victim or the offender, you might in fact be a little of both.''
Fingersmith you are truly gifted! I've already bought 'hearts and flowers border' and beside it in my shelf is a special place reserved to add all the other books you'll publish! Congratulations! You've done it again! :))
- Ann - Aug-21-2006

A fantastic read. Such depth of emotion and humour. Do not miss this story. It will make you think, laugh, cry and go back for more. The only bad thing was finishing it, as I wanted it to go on and on. Please give us more. Going to read it again now. - Anonymous - Aug-22-2006

I have just read this for the third time, and I can guarantee I will be reading it again soon. So much emotion here. Like all Fingersmith's work, there is a message here for us all. Again wow what a wonderful reading experiance this story is, like all other story's from this bard you will experiance emotion, humor and be giving something to think about. What i find amazing about this bard is that in one way or another you will be very emphatic with the narator because what she goes thrue all of us have at one way or another been gone true. That makes her characters so real.
Fingersmith does not dissapoint and neither will the reader be so go on and read this little jewel. - Callisto - Feb-11-2008

ahhh, thank you, Fingersmith! sucked me right in and kept me up too late, yet again, as usual! I've so missed your stories. glad to see you back. - Anonymous - Sep-11-2012

Another great read from Fingersmith. She's truly truly talented author. It's a great pity that the publisher of her books (PD Publishing) is soooo slow and even doesn't have e-books. I've bought three published books and I'll buy every book in future if they'll ever be released. The Athenaeum is a blessing to all the authors in this situation. Thank God we have it and thank admins for a job well done.

Sport's Day. The day Katie Clarke met the beautiful, yet desperately annoying, 'Miss Jefferson'. The day that her life was turned upside down and inside out. The day that she realized that life could definitely throw the pleasure / pain theory into the loop. But is it a day in which she would repeat over and over again?
You are without a doubt my favourite author in the whole entire universe. I love every single one of your stories. No one gets to me like you do. So funny and touching and HOT! The way you write makes the story play like i'm watching a movie and the characters are as amazing as always. I love it. Don't ever stop writing. - Sarah - May-23-2007

This was great fun and surprisingly heartfelt. I found myself laughing at my computer screen and truly enjoying the voice (I typically dislike first person). - Anonymous - Mar-24-2013

Trust, respect, and love. Three little words - that's all. But these words are powerful, and if we ignore any one of them, then three other little words take their place - jealous, insecurity, and heartbreak. School teacher, Gemma Hughes, is an ordinary woman living an ordinary life. Disorganised and clumsy, it isn't long before she finds herself in the capable hands of the beautiful Dr Maria Moran. Everything starts wonderfully until Gemma starts to doubt the doctor's intentions, listen to the wrong people & listen to the wrong version & and begin to believe all she hears. But has Maria something to hide, or is it a case of swapping trust for insecurity, respect for jealousy, and finishing with a world of heartbreak and deceit? Can Gemma stop her actions before it's too late? Or will she ruin the best thing to happen in her life?
Very enjoyable read! As with all Fingersmith's stories, very much a LOL tale. TMBx??? That was a new one for me. - Nancy - Aug-11-2008

The story is really as good as it gets and a bit more than that. Few people are more talented than fingersmith, and it is proven by both the originality and longevity of her stories. - Irene - Aug-13-2008

I love the style of writing from this author, and it has become her trademark. Believable characters and story, and the reader readily engages with the life of the narrator. Another well written tale from fingersmith, with laugh out loud scenes, and parts that will make us think. - KT - Aug-13-2008

Fingersmith has just given us as a present "See Right Through Me".
The gift is not only another novel. It's not a tale. I should say, it's a fable.

Fingersmith started a Fable Serie with "Once", later with "Miracle" and now with "See Right Through Me". I think that she's become a Writer of Fables because she prepares us for the story and she gets to a number of conclusions that make us think and very seriously how to face our relationships and how to improve. In the meantime, Fingersmith takes us through a path of good writing. Always welcome. Always satisfying. What else can we ask for a good story? - Towanda - Aug-13-2008

Another great story from the English Bard; gotta laugh and gotta cry with this gal.compulsive reading, thank you Fingersmith. - xenagirl - Aug-15-2008

Fingersmith is one of my favourite Authors. All her stories are brilliant, and See Right Through Me is yet another great story to add. Love it! - Amanda C. - Aug-19-2008

Another great story from this English Bard. I enjoy her work so much, but I confess that I have to keep a british slang dictionary site open when I read her work. Who knew that there is really a word 'shite'. - wasabigirl - Aug-22-2008

A fabulous story that keeps you reading, laughing and thinking. Like all Fingersmith's work, this one is definitely not one to be missed. If you haven't read it yet, what are you waiting for? - Harrie - Sep-13-2008

Still Life by Fingersmith
Original / Uber | Modern | Alternative | Romance (alt) | Novel - 153 pages | Finished | Sep-12
Jess Taylor's idea of a good night was an early one, preferably with a good book. After breaking off her relationship with female lothario, Samantha James, she decided that she doesn't want to expose herself to another cheating partner. Staying at home, alone, suited her just fine. Well, until her best friend, Sophie Harrison, decided that it was time to get Jess back into the human race once again. This comes in the shape of a Still Life art class at the local college and more importantly, in the beautiful form of the art teacher, Diana Sullivan. This is the story of how art can bring two women together. But the question is is it strong enough to make a masterpiece? And can Jess overcome her fear of being used once again?
Another one of Fingersmith's excellent stories with enjoyable plot and great characterization. Highly recommended. - pegi - Sep-09-2012

Great story. - zac - Dec-30-2012

i generally dislike stories written in first person.. but fingersmith's stories seem to be the exception.. maybe it's the way she engages the reader to react, form an opinion.. maybe it's the way she incorporates humor into her stories.. not via situations, but through the use of language.. whatever the reason, fingersmith's stories always captivate me.. - xtra dog - Jul-25-2014

Rachel Thompson spends most of her time in the library. Not really the setting most people envision as romantic. But a chance meeting with a fellow researcher leaves her wanting more than old books. Maybe it was time to lift her head out from under the dust jacket and face real life.
Absolutely brilliant as always! Made me grin like a maniac and would be a good story for a sequel. - Revalis - May-24-2007

I loved this short story. Believable characters, funny and very hot. One thing I can say is I will never see a library in the same way again. Thank you, again, fingersmith. You are the best. - CH - Jun-03-2007

Once again Fingersmith has written an excellent story. I want more of this. If you haven't read it, read it now. You are missing a real treat. - Sadie - Jun-08-2007

Short and sweet, but with humor too. Love the style of writing and the characters in this. Like Right Between the Eyes, this one is definitely worthy of a read. Well done, fingersmith. You have me hooked. - zia - Aug-30-2007

I loved it...really cute. wish it was longer :) - Yani - Jan-30-2008

Funny short story, makes ya put a visit at a dull libary in another perspective....... - Callisto - Feb-10-2008

What a wonderful little tale! Downright hilarious with a brilliant style. Any chance of a sequel? - Gemstone - Sep-02-2010

I liked this story. Very well written. Recommended. - Lyn B - May-06-2011

very recognizable.. have had similar things happen to me in the library.. honestly.. some teenagers have asked me where to find books, elderly males have rubbed up on me, some very attractive women have made too much noice.. after reading this story i can't help feeling i have missed out on something.. can''t quite put my finger to it, though.. - xtra dog - Jun-05-2011

You gave nice ideas here. I done a research on the issue and laernt most peoples will agree with your blog. If you try to do everything and don't sleep, you are going to be so exhausted in the weeks after birth that you can not care for your baby properly.VA:F [1.9.7_1111]please wait...VA:F [1.9.7_1111](from 0 votes) - YHQNbYMzdXOXX - Apr-08-2012
