I'm surprised no one has commented on this little gem. An amazingly well written short story that introduces us to two very likeable characters. Not only that, but it's got a very hot sex scene!! One of my favorites, so if you've not read it yet, do so now! :) - Jen - Sep-11-2007

This is a wonderfull story. It has everything in it. What? How can this be in such a short story? Well Ms Jlynn proofs it. Go read it and tell her what you think. Should at least be one time a number one. - Inge - Sep-14-2007

This is the BEST short story i've evere read here. Thanks JLynn, and thanks a LOT :) The language, the metaphores, everything's just perfect. It's not "empty", emotions and feelings are understandable, meaning they have a ground to grow on. Even having a not-so-big practice in reading in english, i can honestly admit that this piece was written beautifully, and thanks to such authors i love english more. Thanks again. sorry 4 my bad english writing ) - RuSome - Nov-25-2009

One Last Breath takes place within the context of the 4th season episode "Ides of March" leading up to the final scene. The story reveals a heartwrenching look at Xena's thoughts and feelings as the warrior and bard endure their final moments together.
Not an easy read, given the subject matter -- but well worth it. A poignant, beautifully written story. - LadyKate - Oct 31st, 2003

This is a wonderful short story. As LadyKate said it is not an easy read - it will break your heart. JLynn is a wonderful writer and she captures perfectly the anguish of the Ides of March. - Cheryl Ande - Nov 1st, 2003

This made you feel just what the warrior and bard truley felt for one another. Isn"t true love grand? It was hard to read but well worth it. I would recommend you read it. - Liz - Sep 10th, 2005

Storms of War by JLynn
Xena | Alternative | Drama | Novel - 441 pages | Finished | Jan-02
Cast: Xena, Gabrielle, Xena’s, Gabrielle’s, Argo
Set in the second season between "Here She Comes...Miss Amphipolis" and "Destiny," this epic tale marks Xena's struggle to rectify a horrific moment in her past. Neapolis, once ransacked years ago by the Warrior Princess herself, is now besieged by a new warlord. Consumed by her need to atone, Xena considers even the most desperate measures that might offer the town its salvation, even those that cause Gabrielle grave concern. Their disparate natures test their feelings and friendship even as they strive to find a solution. Storms of War has much to offer the Classic-loving reader; including elements of Warlord/Slave, First Time, Hurt/Comfort, high drama, gods and goddesses, mystery and romance, all tightly woven into a story that draws on the first two seasons for its solid foundation. Intense and engaging with a strong secondary cast of characters, Storms will keep you anxiously turning the pages.
This is by far one of the most incredible pieces I've ever read. I must applaude you for giving readers a beautiful escape in Xena fan fiction. Surely, others like me wish to read more by the author. - Melyssa - Apr 10th, 2002

I loved this story. A job well done!!! - sassy123 - Sep-10-2010

I agree that this would make a great Xena movie. I had a bit of a hard time reading it because of how long it was and working odd hours but when I did finally finish, it was most definitely worth the occasional sleep deprivation. Very well written characterizations and brilliant plot. It's too bad something like this can't be published or else I'd add it to my bookshelf. - Laura - Jul-05-2011

I don't know how I missed this one in the xenaverse, but so glad someone recommended another of JLynn's stories so I could find it. It brings back memories of when I first discovered Xe/Gab fanfic. This is a GREAT story. One of the best I've read. Lot's of angst, drama, action, twists and turns. A wonderful way to spend a day off - lost in a wonderful classic Xe/Gab story. - colorado fan - Oct-06-2012

Epic is the only word I can use for this story. It is an immense story full of everything that you love about the characters and the Xenaverse.
It also does not flinch from the true horrors of war. Exhausting, exhilarating and brilliant, this is a must read! - Kez - Dec-02-2013

one of the best I've read!! Right there at the top with M. Parnell and Annemaart!
Just read it!! - Anonymous - Jan-01-2014

It is everything we can expect from a great novel. Just... epic !

The story, the characters, the plot... Action, war, emotion, hurt/comfort, a bit of Dark Xena, and as the cherry on top, the very beginning of the X/G romance.... It could be the story for a Xena movie! Set right before the events of Destiny, it also helps explaining Xena's mindset at the time .

A rollercoaster.

One of my favorites. - Gsanchez - Nov-30-2014

Beautiful prose. Capturing X&G poignant emotional roller coaster ride. - Anon - Apr-27-2013

When I watched all six seasons of Xena I thought back to where I thought they would have become a couple and figured it would have had to have been after "the kiss." This is the most perfectly imagined story to that effect. It fills in the blanks perfectly. - BigZee - May-23-2013
