What's left of a mortally injured girl is transferred to a cyber-shell aboard a starship, where one of the ship's civilian specialists helps her come to grips with her new life as a brain in a box installed on a starfighter.
Before I started writing X&G fanfic, I read X&G fanfic...alot. Along with Felioness' "The Amphipolis Expedition", Quest's, "The Ship Who Remembered" was one of the first ubers I recall. Having read and noted the popularity of the recent tale, "Only Have Eyes for You", I suspect that many readers will find this a good read. X&G are recognizable and well portrayed. The caring between them and their growing closeness mirrors the series, but this story has a happy ending! "The Ship Who Remembered" is alt/uber from when that genre was still pretty new. This is an Sci-fi adventure and a semi-X-over using ideas from Anne MacCaffery's brainship series. I saved it on my HD a few years back when some sites shut down and I worried that I'd be able to find it again. Give it a try, and note that as originally posted, there is a sequel. - Phantom Bard - Aug 3rd, 2004

I enjoyed reading brain ship adventures by Anne McCaffrey, Mercedes Lackey and Margaret Ball. This 2 part uber is a creative and exciting pairing of the conqueror in the final frontier - outerspace.
