this is just an awesome, highly original vampire series with a good mix of action, character development, romance, sex (which has not been drawn out, but still steamy), and evolving plot. A taste of Old Egypt plus Kipling-esc reminiscences plus romantic love make this tale an exiting read, done by a talented author. Not a new story, but one of my alltime favourite ones, that I love to reread once in a while. It is larger than life, has characters that draw from and illustrate humanity's features, and finds the place where heart and soul meet. This story added another star in the sky. In my heart I will feel that Shayt and Daryl lived together forever, and it makes me happy to imagine the eternity they spend loving each other. Yes, I would rather Shadowriter write her imagination in a sequel, but time always pulls us to different necessities. I was in the mood to read something different, and boy did this fit the bill. The characterizations and interactions ring true as if this was a chronicle of the relationship of real people. The dimensions of the characters was excellent, and worked very well with the pacing of the story. I also like the fact that it diverged from commonly used mythology, and it did it really well.
