Meet and Greet

Meet and Greet

Postby vnud29 » Wed Apr 22, 2009 7:27 pm

A few days ago I had this amazing idea of posting this topic. I've been a "lurker" on this forum for months now and I really haven't posted much at all. I also noticed that there wasn't any threads, that I know of, where people can just meet other readers here at the Athenaeum. So, after many hours of thinking....*light bulb flash* a great idea! I could create a thread!

Also I noticed that most topics have over a hundred views...but only a few replies to the actual topic. So, that got me thinking about how many people out there just stare at the computer screen on the forum without anything to talk about or anyone to speak to.

All this rambling adds up to a thread where people can come to introduce themselves and perhaps find some friends on this site who they may speak to freely. I know for a fact I visit daily so I'll always be around somehow. Also, if you have any random thoughts and wish to share...thats welcome too :D Anything goes here....as long as they follow the rules, of course.

ok....I'll start first then.lol

*drum roll*

Hello everyone, my name is Yuri and I'm from Florida...(land of the blistering heat)

Hello Yuri and everyone else!

:big hug:

Well, I am a lurker as well. I have been reading online fanfiction for about 10 years now, and visiting this site for a couple years now. I just recently unlurked and volunteered to be a guest editor. I visit this site pretty much daily, and have read more stories then I can count. I live in MI but I am moving back home to CT this summer! And Florida is quite lovely... in December! I have some family there, and went to see them at Christmas. Lovely 60 degree weather in winter, loved it!

To all you other lurkers, don't be shy! We all have at least one thing in common, so say hello and introduce yourselves!

Ha!

You tell 'em!! I've been sitting here waiting for someone to post.....while cursing when my view count increases and no posts lol.
thank you :big hug:

Never....ever...visit florida in the summer lol I think I need to mentally prepare myself to the heat...*shudder* How's the north? I've only traveled to the southwest but never on the east side. And compared to you I've only been reading for a couple years lol

Eh, the north is... cold. Currently rainy too. Blahish even! But they (and by they I mean the happy weather people I watch every morning) promise near 70 degrees for the weekend. I am most definately a cooler temp kind of person so no worries, I plan on avoiding anyplace below the mason-dixon line during the summer months LOL.

I've been reading fiction for almost 10 years, but I'm going to be 26 this year. Reading got me through those god awful teen years, and the awkward "am I gay" phase too. And now as an adult, not only do I get to enjoy online fiction, but I even get to splurg for published work every so often! It's very exciting when I get a new book, almost as exciting when a favorite author posts an update of a story, or better yet a new story!

I did two summers in Miami, and my better half lived their for 30 years. I'm not sure if hell would be much worse than Miami in the summer. Don't get me wrong, I loved Miami, save for the spring-summer-autumn heat and the hurricanes. The most beautiful, lush, city I've ever seen. Our favorite place to go: Fairchild Topical Garden, and oh how I miss it living in the land of cows, corn, and football worship.

Miami...*shudders* my girlfriend lives down there and I dunno how she does it. I could never ever live that south. You're literally...in the burning inferno-ness of hell lol I live about three and half hours away. Up by Tampa on the gulf coast.

to iloveubers: ( I love ubers too :D)

Yeah I get excited when I see the weather is not in the 80s or 90s lol But I do enjoy going to the beach on hot days. That makes up for the horrible heat and hurricanes.

OMG you're no more then a baby! (Almost) 17, my goodness I don't know what I'd do with myself if I were (almost) 17 again! :D

The beach thing, eh not really my favorite activity to be honest. I'm an indoorsy (is that a word?...) kinda gal. It was kinda cool being able to walk on the beach in December (but not in the water. One day we had a shark warning, the other day we were blinded and stung by sandy high winds @_@), but I'd never be able to live through 3/4 of the year in Florida LOL. My cousin tried to get me to move down there, but with my being broke and the whole heat/hurricanes/bugs/random allegators in the pool stuff, I couldn't keep my sanity there =)

But yes, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Boca Raton were very lovely!

I'm at that awkward age where my younger friends think I'm old, and my older friends think I'm young! Not quite over the hill, but the trill of being over 21 has faded LOL.

Hey I'm not a baby!!!....I'm only...ten years younger than you lol
woah...youre the same age as my brother lol annnnnnnnnnnnd my sisters are older than you...that's odd.

I have to agree with all your reasons....except there really aren't that many alligators. I've never seen one in my pool lol Once they get too big they are killed. Plus as long as you were at a safe distance from them....they are amazing to watch. at least in my opinion.

Well according to my cousin, he randomly finds some kind of large, ugly lizzard sitting up in palm tree's and bugs the size of a small house pet trying to eat him for lunch! So, all in all, I am frightened of the Floridian Summer! =)

So you think our random posts will encourage other's to join in? I'm gonna head to bed, but I'll check this thread tomorrow. Hopefully other's will chime in, even if it has nothing to do with Florida!

Goodnight!

I should head to bed too....perhaps I'll see you tomorrow and we can scar..umm...welcome more people :) Have a nice day.

Hello all!

Land of blistering heat? I live in Arizona...we have already hit the 3 digit temperature! 103 yesterday, cooled off to a chilly 98 today.

Hi I've been reading these and wishing. I live in a town called Wigan in England. Used to have great rugby team and George Formby was born here. I'm envying your weather as here we've gone from gale force wind and rain, freezing to the sun trying to come out and sort of warming up. Let's hope the sun keeps trying.

I'm with pippin on the weather. Down here in Wales, it's been alright today but no summer yet. Wish I were somewhere sunny (even if there are not-quite-aligators lurking in the trees...).

ahahhaaha I come back and everyone wants to come to Florida!

I've been to Arizona too in the summer and yeah....thats pretty horrible I'm not gonna lie lol But....we have.....humidity...*shiver* Makes it seem a whole lot hotter than what the temperature actually is.

Oh and I have an alligator story to tell since everyone's interested. I think it was a couple weeks ago or last week, I dunno, but at a car dealership this guy found like a 7ft Alligator under a car. Apparently a customer heard the hissing sound and looked at a huge reptile tail. Now that....is a bit scary lol Notice I said yesterday that if you were at a "safe" distance away they are amazing to look at lol

On a side note....I wanna go to England lol

hello all,

I have also been a lurker for a while, the only post ive ever done that wasnt about finding a story was the one I put up the other day. A good number of Floridians on here, nice. I am also from hell's waiting room, more specifically the Tampa area and have been reading fiction for about 8 years. I enjoyed the alligator story, I think anyone who has lived in FL for more than a year or two will have some. I once had to call my high school to tell them I'd be late because an alligator (about 9 ft long I might add) was blocking my car in the driveway haha. anyway, just wanted to say hi!
