Chapter Eleven- Two Months Later

"I'm not ready."

"Of course you are!"

"I am not!"

Nadya's head moved back and forth between Oksana and Oskar as they argued back and forth. She finally rolled her eyes and forced them to focus on her knitting. They'd been going at it for a while, and every time Oskar thought he was making headway, Oksana would start all over.

"We have been going through this very same thing for two months, Oksana." Oskar said slowly, trying to be patient with her. This was something new for him, but he was trying very hard. One night, in their bedroom, Nadya had admonished a sheepish Oskar for his lack of patience with their granddaughter.

He had never realized how hard he always came down on the young woman until his wife had pointed it out. He glanced over at Nadya, who smiled encouragingly. "You know what every division in the corporation does, down to the last minute detail, Oksana."

"That doesn't mean that I can run the company." Oksana argued, pacing back and forth in front of his desk. "We're talking about billions, for Cripes sake!"

"You do not give yourself enough credit. You are smarter than you ever let on, a genius with the numbers, young, energetic, passionate."

It was hard for Oksana to accept his praise. It just felt strange coming from him. When she'd first moved into Ivanov Estate at the age of six, Oskar had been so busy running the company and mourning his son that he'd hardly spent time at home. When he was home, he either spent it with Nadya, or playing chess with Ekaterina Gorky. They never became close and that always bothered Oksana. He never praised her, or expressed much love, though he made sure that she had everything she wanted. She stopped thinking, and caring, about it during her third year in college.

"You can use that passion towards your work," Oskar was saying, a proud gleam in his eyes.

Oksana swallowed hard and said: "Why can't someone else do this, papa? Some one more capable; I'm hardly capable." Her heart felt like a stampede was running over it, and she felt the panic setting in.

Oskar frowned at his granddaughter's stubbornness. "You are my heir." He said firmly. "No one else but you should be in that position."

She knew there was no avoiding responsibility, the survival of her grandfather's dynasty depended on her. If she didn't assume the captain's position, the ship that was her grandfather's company would eventually sink. She'd be damned if she let Gustav take over the reins.

She was very aware that she'd once thought she could run the company, but as the weeks passed, and more and more facets of Ivanov were revealed to her, she realized that she'd be undertaking a huge operation. And then comes marriage. Shit.

"Papa…" She whispered, on the verge of pouting.

Oskar's heart softened once again at the expression of pure panic on Oksana's face. "Your father would have wanted this." She said simply, his voice soft.

My father… Oksana thought, turning away from her grandparents as soon as she felt tears fill her eyes. He was destined to run Ivanov. She thought bitterly. "If my father hadn't died, we wouldn't be having this conversation." She said thickly, striding quickly out of the study.

Oksana jumped, fully clothed except for her shoes, into the pool. She let herself float face down for a moment before pounding her way from one side to the other, thinking hard.

Oskar had never mentioned her father to her before. It had always been as if Owen had never existed, even though his photographs hung around the house and his bedroom had been untouched since before he'd gotten married. Now that she'd witnessed his pain at just the mere mention of her father, Oksana knew why Oskar never spoke of him. The pain of his loss was still fresh.

Oksana finally came to rest against the side of the pool, breathing hard. She knew the cause of the burning in her eyes was not the chlorine, and that frustrated her even more. I don't cry. She thought, narrowing her eyes against the tears she felt gathering. Movement made her look up.

Kat was walking slowly towards the pool, her eyes on Oksana, and her face an unreadable mask. She had a large towel draped over her shoulder and it covered half of her body. Oksana looked away from the other woman, quickly trying to blink away her tears, as well as the image of Kat's perfect body, which had quickly imbedded itself in her brain. When she looked back, Kat was sitting on the edge of the pool, watching her, her lower legs in the water; the towel was wrapped tightly around her shoulders, covering her upper body and thighs.

Oksana thought she still looked gorgeous and attractive despite being covered. She couldn't stop her eyes from taking in the other woman's gorgeous face, the vividly rich green eyes that rarely hid what Kat was feeling. Oksana was deeply aware that what she'd always seen in them was disgust, and suddenly she wanted to change that.

Her traitorous body urged her to go to Kat and touch her, or anything. Just don't look at her; you won't be tempted if you don't look.

"What's going on?" Kat asked suddenly, unable to fight her curiosity.

Oksana paused mid-lift, her eyes widening. Did she just speak to me? She wondered bewilderedly. Since their drama two months earlier, Kat had made it a point to either ignore her or avoid Oksana all together, any chance she got; Oksana had also been too busy to start any mischief. Oksana sat at the edge of the pool and stared at Kat, whose eyes were questioning. "Uh, What?"

"I can tell you're upset." Kat said softly.

Oksana shrugged, looking down at the crystal clear water. "I'm not ready to run a multi-billion dollar enterprise, but my grandfather is ready to feed me to the sharks." She grunted.

"He thinks you're ready." Kat reminded her.

"Well, he's wrong."

"You have your MBA education. You don't give yourself enough credit."

"Welcome to the fucking topic of the day." Oksana spat bitterly, leaning forward and slapping at the water. She stared at the small waves she created, sighing deeply.

Kat's eyes, of their own accord, took in Oksana's pensively beautiful profile. Her curly blonde locks, a little longer than usual, hung over her devastatingly gorgeous face, and Kat was dismayed to feel her hands tingle at the thought of running her fingers through the soft looking mane. "When do you think you'll be ready?"

Oksana shrugged. "I don't know." She whispered, her eyebrows furrowing.

Kat smiled in sympathy. "If he thinks you're ready, then it's time. He's told me you've impressed him the past couple of months; that from what he's seen, you're a natural. He's very proud of you, Oksana. He knows you're trying."

Oksana felt tingles rush down her spine at the news. Whenever Oskar told her, she couldn't believe him, but she believed Kat. A sudden thought stopped the tingles and she frowned. "Why so nice all of a sudden?"

Kat scowled in return. "What?" Oksana's sudden change threw her for a loop.

"Is it because I'm going to be the head honcho?" Oksana demanded, leaning back on her hands. That has to be it. Kat had not been civil towards her since her return to Sanford.

Kat rolled her eyes. "You obviously like it when I get pissed off at you." She said humorlessly, surprised at herself for remaining calm. I must be mellowing.

Oksana's lips curled into a smirk. "Actually, I kind of do." She admitted, but her smirk faded quickly. "You don't have to be nice to me because of who I am. Your job is safe."

"I wouldn't care if you were God herself," Kat said slowly, her eyes narrowing.

Ooh, there they are, those sexy eyes. Oksana's mind crooned, as she forgot about the cause of Kat's anger, her own big mouth. "I love it when your eyes get like that," She sang, standing up and walking to Kat, who rolled her e yes again and refused to look at her. Oksana squatted, resting her elbows on her knees and gazing at Kat's profile for a long moment.

Kat fought the shiver she could feel gathering at the bottom of her spine, taking a deep calming breath. The fact that she could react like this at just the other woman's nearness only fueled her anger; at herself, most of all, and at Oksana.

Oksana's eyes were glued to the luscious lower lip. She could imagine herself nibbling it, fully aware of how soft it would feel. Her throat felt suddenly dry. "Look at me." She rasped.

The sound of Oksana's voice, so sexy and so vulnerable, made Kat look. Oksana's eyes were glued to her mouth, and Kat couldn't help but remember the feel of her lips pressed against Oksana's, the feel of the blonde's tongue in her mouth. The shiver won the battle, and she trembled violently, her thighs clenching.

Oksana swallowed hard, leaning forward slowly. Her eyes rose to meet Kat's, and she froze, her breath catching. She felt her knees weaken. Kat's eyes were sucking her in; their velvet green was deep and hungry, and Oksana struggled to look away. Finally succeeding, Oksana returned her eyes to the safety of Kat's lips.

Kat felt her breathing return. She had never looked into such fiery eyes in her life. They promised an animal-like passion and her own body's reaction scared her.

"Do you know how long it's been since I got laid?" Oksana asked, her voice low as she swallowed hard. Kat's nearness was doing things to her that no other woman had ever done. Her hands were aching to feel the other woman's skin; she had to consciously clench them to keep from doing something that would upset Oskar, and Kat. Why she cared what Kat thought, she did not know.

"To be honest, I don't care." You can always expect her to ruin a moment… Thank God, Kat thought with relief as she pushed the other woman away.

Oksana landed on her ass, her serious expression unchanged. "It's been two months." Oksana said, as if Kat hadn't spoken.

"Good for you." Kat retorted, inflecting her voice with sarcasm. She was disgusted with her own body's reaction to Oksana's revelation. Come on, Kat, turn off the switch.

Kat's sudden indifference was quickly frustrating Oksana. Just a minute ago she was so receptive, and now she's a fucking ice cube. "You drive me crazy, do you know that?" Oskar whispered, leaning forward again and inhaling deeply of Kat's perfume.

Kat laughed, pleased despite herself. "Well, you don't have to worry about that much longer." She said. At Oksana's puzzled look, she said: "I bought a house."

A surprised Oksana frowned. "You're moving out?"

Kat grinned smugly. "Yep. Another month while it gets fixed, then I'm out of your hair," She said, adding pointedly: "And you'll be out of mine."

Oksana watched Kat drop the towel and slip forward into the pool, effectively dismissing her. Why does it bother you that she's moving out? She asked herself. Because your chances of seducing her are dwindling, that's why, Oksana. Cursing in a low voice, she jumped to her feet, stalking towards the house.

Mary's eyes followed a soaked Oksana as she passed through the kitchen. The sexy body was in full display under the soaked clothes, the nipples very visibly hard. Mary's nipples contracted in sympathy and she felt her breath catch at their brief eye contact. She remained frozen, staring after her until Yuliya cleared her throat from across the table. Mary had forgotten all about her

"You should not get any ideas," Yuliya warned, her eyes stern. "Those days are over for Oksana."

"I don't know what you're talking about."

Yuliya lifted her eyebrows at Mary, her expression saying: Give me a break. "You just consider yourself warned." She said, returning to her work over the stove.
