Chapter Eight

"So, where did you learn to throw like that?" Josef asked his daughter, handing her a wet towel. Josef could imagine what had caused his daughter to lose it in such a way, and he figured he didn't want to know what exactly happened. He was afraid to know. He would go after Oksana like the protective father that he was, but he respected Oskar too much to do that.

Kat wiped her face shakily, trying not to cry. "I joined a softball team in college, and kept playing for organization teams." She said softly, eyes wide. The Ivanovs' private doctor had been called when Oksana hadn't woken and Kat was currently awaiting news.

"I never knew that." Josef said slowly.

Kat nodded. "I know, I'm sorry." She said. She watched Mary emerge from the kitchen and head for the study. Mary was juggling a pan of hot water and a few towels. Kat was tempted to ask her father not to open the door for the slut, but she clenched her teeth when he moved to help her. Just before Mary went in, the women traded dirty looks. Already loyal, eh? Or is it lustful?

"You do not like her much, Ekaterina?" Josef asked. From what Yuliya had told him, she expected both women to grab knives and start waving them around at each other.

Kat's sour almost made him chuckle. "There's no love lost." She said evenly.

"I don't want to talk about it." Kat said, looking away. She wasn't sure why herself.

"Well, it looks like she's back to her old self." Doctor Michael Rollins deadpanned. He and the elder Ivanovs were watching Oksana as her eyes followed the pretty young maid around the room. He turned to them and said: "There is no concussion, it's just a big bump. Nevertheless, I'd like someone to check in on her from time to time during the night."

Mary perked up, hoping she'd be given the job.

Nadya's eyes tracked to Mary and saw her hopeful expression. She lifted a white eyebrow at Mary. The expression on her face said enough.

Mary made quick work of picking up the pan, the dirty towels, and leaving the room.

Kat waited outside Oksana's for the past half hour, waiting for Oksana to be settled into bed. She had felt bad about throwing the rock at Oksana and knocking her out, but she felt worse when she saw the doctor helping a pale Oksana walk out of the study. The tall blonde had been shaky and her head was bandaged; she hadn't looked at Kat as they had walked past. This is bad.

"I'm fine already, mama." Oksana said crankily, dodging her grandmother's fretting hands.

Nadya was in the process of making sure Oksana's pillow was comfortable, and she stopped at Oksana's tone. She sat down next to her on the bed, and gazed at her lovingly for a long moment. Oksana was avoiding her eyes, and she wanted to know why Oksana always did that. "Oksana, look at me. Tell me what happened."

Oksana turned her eyes towards her grandmother but never looked directly into her eyes. "I'm sorry, mama, but I'm tired, and my head hurts. I don't want to talk." She said, trying to sound sincere. She wanted to be left alones, so that she could reflect on what had happened with Ekaterina. Ekaterina's earlier actions had only served to stoke the fire she could feel simmering beneath the surface, and Oksana wanted to get her hands on the other woman.

Nadya nodded slowly. "Alright, then." She leaned down and kissed the young woman gently on the cheek.

"I want to apologize." Kat said as Oskar emerged from Oksana's room.

Oskar fought a smile. He could tell that Kat was feeling extremely bad about what had happened. He could only imagine what had gone on before Kat had lost it; he didn't comment on her mud caked clothes and dirty hair. That she hadn't even gone to take a shower showed the depth of her worry. He touched her shoulder. "I do not think I want to know what caused you to lose it like that, Ekaterina." He said softly.

Kat felt relieved. She didn't want to repeat Oksana's words; they would greatly disappoint Oskar, and Kat didn't want to be the cause, however inadvertently. "I'm so sorry." She said.

"Unfortunately, it is not me that you have to apologize to, my dear." Oskar replied.

I was afraid of that. Kat thought with a sigh. "How is she?"

"She will live." Oskar said with a gentle smile. "A person with a hard head like hers is hard to kill."

Kat chuckled, shoving her hands into her pockets. "So you're not mad at me?" She asked sheepishly.

Oskar laughed and shook his head. "Never." He reassured her. "You fix whatever this is with Oksana. Nadya and I will stay out of it. Even when you two were children and were friends, you were at each other's throats. Just nothing as bad as this." His eyes were beseeching. "You are like a granddaughter to me, Ekaterina, I could never be mad at you." He stepped away as Oksana's bedroom door opened. "Just fix this."

Nadya emerged from the bedroom and joined them. She smiled reassuringly at Kat. "Go clean up, honey." She said gently. "Oksana's fine. You'll get to talk to her later."

Kat nodded and released a pent up breath. She was very glad that Nadya wasn't mad at her either.

Later that night, Kat snuck into Oksana's room. She'd waited until late to go in, hoping that Oksana would be asleep and she wouldn't have to suffer a conversation with her. The lights were on, but Oksana seemed to be asleep; she was lying on her back, her breathing even and her body still. Kat was relieved to note that most of the Ivanov heir's color had returned. Kat carefully stepped up close to the bed and sighed. She felt really guilty of hurting Oksana, and resolved to try harder next time; she wouldn't let Oksana goad her into this type of kid stuff.

She was so into her thoughts that she was surprised when Oksana's eyes snapped open, and her hand shot out and grabbed her. Before she knew it, Oksana yanked her down onto the bed and flipped her onto her back. Kat struggled furiously until Oksana had a hold of her wrists with one hand, and clamped her legs down with her own. She could do nothing but look up into Oksana's playful eyes. "Let me go." She said through clenched teeth.

Oksana was in heaven; she inhaled deeply of the sexy scent she'd only ever smelled on Kat. "This has been my fantasy since I first laid eyes on you." She said in a low voice, bringing her face closer to Kat's until she could feel the shorter woman's labored breath on her lips.

Kat lay paralyzed under Oksana's gaze, unable to stop her body from acknowledging the larger and stronger body pressed up tightly against hers. Her eyes wide, she stared up into Oksana's, feeling herself weaken, and afraid that she was about to give in.

Oksana averted her eyes and studied Kat's beautiful face. Their brief eye contact made her feel as if she could get lost in the green forever, and that scared her.

Their loss of eye contact released Kat from the mental prison in which she'd fallen. She began to struggle anew. "Didn't you learn not to mess with me?" She grunted, trying to pull her wrists from Oksana's grip.

Oksana laughed. "Aha! So you did want to kill me!" She exclaimed delightedly. Her eyes tracked down to the sexy lips so close to her own, and felt herself getting warm all over. All thoughts of the will and the deal tumbled out the window. "You know, that just made me want you even more."

Horrified, Kat could do nothing but watch the blue eyes close as the mouth slowly neared her own. She could not turn her face away and actually felt anticipation right before silky lips touched hers.

Oksana inhaled deeply as she opened her mouth on Kat's, feeling a deep thrill when Kat's mouth opened to hers. She gasped when she felt Kat's tongue seek hers and let her hands go, snaking an arm around the slender shoulders. She mentally celebrated when she felt Kat's arm wrap tightly around her neck.

Kat's mind was wailing at her to stop, but her body felt disconnected, on autopilot, and she had no control over it. She could feel the throb between her thighs reach new heights and she despaired at her weakness. Oksana's hand squeezing her breast shocked her so much that her brain was finally able to take control of her libido.

"Oof!" Oksana exhaled forcefully when Kat's left elbow made contact with her stomach. She fell forward onto her face as Kat scurried from underneath her, showering obscenities on her. She lay stunned for a few seconds before bursting into delighted laughter. She's mine.

"You're laughing? You're such an asshole!" Kat ranted, slapping down at Oksana, who laughingly warded off the blows with her hands.

Oksana only laughed harder.

"What's so Goddamn funny?" Kat screeched, her pulse pounding dangerously. I'm going to have a stroke!

Oksana's eyes were dancing when she looked up at Kat. "You kissed me back." She crowed.

"I- I had to pretend! So you'd let me go!"

"That was no pretend kiss, baby." Oksana said smoothly, climbing off the bed and following the flustered Kat towards the door. Both women reached the door at the same time, and Oksana held the door close with one hand as Kat tried to pull it open. She leaned in close to Kat and whispered into her ear: "You'll be mine."

Kat fought a shiver and pushed Oksana away with her body, yanking the door open and disappearing down the hallway.
