Part Three

"That was an awful nice thing you did today." Sharki stated as she walked out the backdoor of her Grandma's house.

Delaney was sitting on a chair looking up at the sky. "Thanks."

Sharki looked at the younger woman as puffs of air left her mouth. "It's kind of cold out here. Maybe you should come in."

"I'm fine for right now." Delaney looked over at the dark haired woman. "You can go on back in. I'm fine, just thinking."

"About?" Sharki walked over to the other side of the table. She grabbed the extra chair and brought it around.

Delaney closed her eyes and took in a deep breath of cold night air. "Just things."

"Grandma always told me it's better to share things with people. It makes it easier to deal with." Sharki stretched her legs out and waited to see if her companion would share her thoughts.

Delaney wasn't use to sharing anything about herself or her thoughts since she lost her Grandma. She glanced over at the quiet form sitting there patiently wait. "I was thinking of some way to have this large amount of money work for people who need it. Like Ms. Becker and her son, they honestly and truly needed my help." She rubbed her gloved hands together. "I want to do more of that. I just don't know how."

"Start by talking to hospitals around the area. If a program doesn't exist then start one up. Put people that you trust on the board and go from there." Sharki suggested liking the idea. "I bet you will a huge response."

"I think so," Delaney said. "I don't really know and trust a whole lot of people since I have only been here a few years. Do you have any suggestions?"

"Well, do you trust me and Grandma?" Sharki looked over at Delaney. "We would be two that you could trust."

"That is true and if by some chance we find someone who is trying to trick us, we could have you toss them out the door." The blonde giggled.

"We'll since I seem to have so much practice at it, I would be perfect." Sharki laughed along with Delaney. "What do you say we go in and get some hot chocolate? I'm freezing my ass off."

"Sounds great and maybe we could talk to Esta once we get in there?" Delaney stood up and offered her hand to Sharki. The other woman took the hand and pulled herself up.

"I already know she will love the idea." Sharki guided Delaney towards the door.

Delaney stopped just before she opened the backdoor. "You know I like you better this way."

"What way?" Sharki asked confused.

Delaney grasped Sharki's hand. "I like you better talking to me then tossing me out on my head."

Sharki started to laugh and then Delaney followed. The cold night became quiet as soon as the laughing pair stepped in the house and closed the door.

The next several weeks were busy for the three women. Between setting up accounts for the money and meeting lawyers and hospital administrator's they didn't have a lot of time for themselves. What time there was came at a minimum.

"I don't care how you want to set this up. It's either our way or no deal or we'll go somewhere else." Sharki yelled at several men in business suits. "We are trying to help people, not line your pockets."

"That's not what we're saying." One man bellowed back.

"Bullshit." Sharki grabbed the files she had spread before her. "Lets go, they don't seem to want to help."

"What are we going to do?" Delaney asked as they sat out in car.

"You would think that they would be happy to help this set up." Esta mumbled from the backseat. "We should build our own place and hire who we need."

Delaney and Sharki both looked up at each other then slowly they both turned towards the backseat.

"What?" Esta asked looking from one woman to the other. "Do I have something on my face?"

"You're a fabulous." Delaney grinned. "I think that is the best idea."

"What idea?" Esta questioned. "I don't understand."

"We should build our own hospital." Sharki started the car and headed off to their lawyer's office.

"Well, I think it's a great idea, but it will entail a lot of work and money." Mr. Fisher stated after he heard what the three women had in mind.

"Well we aren't afraid of hard work and we have money." Esta replied as she sipped her coffee. "Do you think it is plausible?"

Mr. Fisher smiled and nodded his head. "I think it's very plausible. Let's get some people to do some research and fine out what is our best way to go about it."

"Thank you Mr. Fisher, you have no idea how happy that makes us." Delaney stood up and held out her hand.

Mr. Fisher gladly took the small hand in his. "It's my pleasure."

"Let's go get something to eat. I'm starved." Delaney said as they walked to the car. She stopped next to the passenger door and turned to look at Esta and Sharki. "What do you think?"

"Sounds good to me." Sharki glanced down at her Grandma. "What about you?"

"Why don't you two just drop me off at home? I'm a little tired from all the running around." Esta patted Sharki on the arm.

"We could make something at your house and eat there." The tall woman replied as she unlocked the door. "I think you have some chili or something in the freezer."

"No, you two go out and have some fun." Esta wrapped the seatbelt around her body. "No need for me to be a party pooper."

"You're not a party pooper." Delaney turned in her seat. "Chili is fine with me."

"Would you two knock it off and go to dinner." Esta leaned as far as she could towards the front seat. "Go, have fun and you can tell me all about it tomorrow."

"If you're sure?" Sharki started the engine and pulled out onto the road.

Esta nodded, "I'm sure."

"This is nice." Delaney remarked as she looked around the cozy Italian restaurant.

Sharki pulled out Delaney's chair and waited for her to sit before she took the other chair that surrounded the small table. ""I've stopped in and taken some home, but never had a chance to sit and eat."

The waiter came over and offered them each a menu and some bread sticks. He filled the water glasses and asked. "Would you like a glass of wine as you decide?"

"That sounds good," Delaney grinned up at the waiter. "I'd like a glass of the house white, please."

"Yes, Ma'am." The waiter nodded with a smile. "And for you?" He looked at Sharki.

She looked up, "I think I'll have the same."

"Good choice," the waiter left to get their drinks while they looked at the menu to decide what to order.

Sharki looked over the edge of her menu as she kept on hearing Delaney mumbled something. She watched as the petite blonde looked over her menu. "See anything you like?"

Delaney glanced up and smiled. "Everything."

"Well, that sure would be a lot of food." Sharki dropped her menu and pointed to a suggestion. "How about the sample platter. That way you could try a few different items."

"Great idea," Delaney put her menu down. "What about you? Make a decision yet?"

"Lasagna," Sharki grabbed a bread stick and broke it in half. "Tell me about yourself?"

"Not much to tell," Delaney grabbed a bread stick for herself and dipped it in the red sauce. "Mmm, this is good. You should try it."

Sharki did and she agreed. She watched as the quiet woman across from her nibbled on her bread stick. "I never thanked you."

"Why would you do that?" Delaney raised an eyebrow in question. "What did I do?"

"You could have redeemed the lottery ticket all for your own. Yet you shared it with an old woman who you never met before." Sharki leaned on her elbows against the table. "Why?"

Delaney sat what was left of her bread stick on her plate. "It was because of your Grandma that I even bought the ticket in the first place." She copied Sharki's action and leaned forward on the table. "I gave her my word that if I had won I'd split it."

"Just like that?" The darker haired woman raised her own eyebrow back.

Delaney nodded once, "Just like that."

After several seconds of staring at each other, they both jumped when the waiter sat down their glasses. "Are you ready to order?"

I know these are smaller parts than I usually put out, but I want to take my time and make sure I do these characters justice. Let them grow and develop.
