FOREWORD

This story was written quite some time before Xena and Gabrielle made their journey to Britania and all of the horrible experiences which followed in the wake of thnneir most unfortunate meeting with Dahoc.

Something else you may be interested in knowing, gentle reader, is the fact that this story was always intended as a gift. The character of Gander, the Wizard, was created and this account of his adventures with Xena and the beautiful Bard, Gabrielle, was written due to the inspiration of the performances of the two, wonderful, women who have so ably brought Xena and Gabrielle to life. It can be safely said that without Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor portraying our heroes this story would never have been written.

This being the case it had always been my intent to make a free gift of bound copies of the story which follows to Lucy and Renee. However, when this story was finally completed and I actually attempted to put my gifts into their hands Universal Pictures policy of not accepting "unsolicited material" made it impossible to do so.

As a result you, gentle reader, are now the beneficiary of all of my efforts which have been put forth, for more than a year, with the sole purpose of making this yarn as interesting and enjoyable as possible.

However you should be forewarned: Certain elements of this story are not for the squeamish or the easily upset. War, armed close combat, and their inevitable consequences are ugly in the extreme and this story deals with these subjects in a brutally honest manner.

If you find what follows to be less than enjoyable the fault is entirely mine. However, if you find this effort of mine to be of some merit than no small amount of the credit can be attributed to Lucy and Renee; God love them both. Perhaps, now that this story is on the web, they will finally have the opportunity to acquire, in some form, the gift I have endeavored to give them for so very long.

In any event I sincerely hope that one and all derive at least some small measure of pleasure from "Xena's Feathered Friend or The Lonely Wizard" and if you come to like the Wizard so much the better. You see there is very little difference between us.
