This is not your 'average' JMDragon story! It is a tale of two meant to be together meeting in improbable circumstances and lots of angst odds, which is JM's normal, but it never quite reaches her excellent writing abilities. I read it, then because of all the negative comments, I re-read it. I have read all her stories several times and have always enjoyed them. However, something wasn't working in the story. I didn't enjoy this one so much as the others. - Linda - Dec 30th, 2002
Every once in a while, a writer finds it within themselves to write something a bit different, like a rock musician must write a song of love after many, many hard-hitting and fast-paced hitsàthis is what MJ Dragon had done. This is not 'Define Destiny' or like many of her other works that presents strong characters and defined archetypesàin this tale, it is the unexpected characters you cannot truly define into an Uber mold that make it special and memorable. So no, this is NOT your usual Dragonjules taleàthis is BETTER! This tale shows a seasoned writer that has broken her own mold and written a sweet timeless love story that stands out against all the others youÆve come to expect from this author. Read it and you decide û but donÆt expect to find all of the ingredients you have seen beforeàthe flavoring in this is much more exotic and yet subtle. Despite the negative comments i have read, I found this to be a wonderful, touching, and all around well written tale. No! It is not "Destiny" [which I dearly love], but it stands on its own merits. No story or author will please all folks all the time. Read this one and deceide for yourself. It is well worth the effort. The "Dragon" has woven a tale well worth reading. - Belle A. After seeing all the comments on this story, I had to take a look. This is the first of Dragonjuls' stories that I've read, and so I can't compare it to her previous work, pro or con. On its own, Silence of Love is an entertaining uber romance which struck me as more Janice and Mel, than Xena and Gabrielle. I found the text in need of some editing to ease readability, (commas, and sentence breaks), and I didn't find the intro or character list necessary. Beyond this, Silence of Love follows the uber formula of 1)characters with a dark pasts, 2)meeting fortuitously, 3)developing mutual feelings of love in denial, and repressing their expression, 4)a rift, 5)a reapproachment after soulsearching, 6)a climactic catalyst leading to their declarations of love, and 7)the happy resolution. It's competently written, engaging, and has a satisfying conclusion. I found its most uncharacteristic features to be 1)it's somewhat longer than the most popular stories, 2)its male characters are protrayed more positively than is usual in uber. It seems fair to say that for JMDragon, in this story, loving women doesn't reflect its corollary, hating men. That alone makes it refreshing. I think Silence of Love is worth a read. Its not a simple story, emotionally; overall, not a comfortable, funny, heartwarming romance. I suspect that any sense of discontinuity the reader feels may be linked to the method of posting chapters rather than a finished work. Nevertheless, spend a little time reading Silence of Love, then go back to something less challenging if you don't like it. - Phantom Bard - Jan 1st, 2003
JMÆs portrayal of the emotional growth that allows people to create intimacy in full view of their failings and vulnerabilities is superb. She has such a knack with her cannily drawn characters.... angst overflowingà..sexually charged... and emotionally wrenchingàthey are definitely human, but filled with empathy with a decided weave. As I havenÆt read any of her writings this past year, I can definitely say this story shows a huge expansion and great development of her writing skills à some of the best writing she's done and a whole new side to her considerable talent.
