This story explains where and when Ares noticed the innate darkness in Xena and took an interest in her, which begs the question: was it Ares that gave Xena her darkness which allowed her to be so successful as a warlord, or was she born a dark and dangerous soul that drew Ares's attention to her, in which he nurtured and influenced her viciousness over the years? This story uses the premise that Ares appears before her, offering his services to her, like a salesman offering her a product that will enhance her life for the better, rather than him feeding or fanning the flame of Xena's already inherent darkness that she was born with. This is the first in a series called Apparitions of Love and much like Zealander's I THINK OF HER, these are the thoughts that Xena and Gabrielle have for each other. Very well written, very well paced and very hot at times - more so than Zea's stories which were more romantic. Silk's more erotic. What I liked about these were that they reflected the series episodes and what the characters were going through at the time, so you can get a feel of their emotional state and why they were feeling this way.
