This was a very playful and animated adventure in which we meet yet again (in Xena fan fiction) one of Xena's old sly and bawdy female friends, Rook, who is a big flirt, an amazing fighter and might or might not have her eye on Gabrielle, sparking Xena to reconsider whether or not to put the moves on Gabrielle. In this case Rook (is that even a Greek name?) is not interested in Gabrielle and that's the only part of the story where I thought it meandered too far away from the main characters where the author spends too much time on Rook's love interest and not enough on Xena and Gabrielle's romance. JMO. There is imaginative and amusing sex and a mystery within the plot here as well, with mystics, Gods, and warlords, along with an abusive parent, and stories about Xena's sexual past, all keeping the story going at a steady intriguing pace.
