Loved PATSY, everything about her, she's just so cute. But I feel that every house should have a KIMI. - Luvtigger71 - Mar-14-2010

Very sweet story, but with a depth of plot that goes beyond its light hearted trappings. - Anonymous - Mar-24-2010

well done, rounded story! - bookgeek - Mar-29-2010

This DEFINETLY had my brain hurting...but AWESOME...very very good story...mad you think alot about things also... - goody - Jul-16-2010

I loved this story. The storyline was thought provoking and intriguing. Yes... I can definitely see these questions being asked in our near/distant future. Loved the anology to our own human rights struggles to gain personal freedoms and priviledges. Great job. Loved this author and will have to read more of her stories. - x/g fanfic fanatic - Jul-21-2010

What a well written and entertaining story. I had to finish it at one setting. What makes us human? What is a soul? Can these things be programmed into an android? Also contains quirkey but loveable human characters and a love story...or two. This story will bring a smile to your face as well as question what it is to be human. - Linda aka cygirl1 - Dec-01-2010

Very nice story. I was rooting for Kimi. Patsy was just so cute. I could see this made into a movie. - Jolie21 - Dec-03-2010

Cute story. Well worth a read. - Patty R - Dec-06-2010

not a blue eyes - green eyes uber.. well written and phylosophical.. patsy was fun but would drive me up the walls in real life..i was intrigued by how kimi would evolve, and not disappointed by the outcome in the least.. - xtra dog - Nov-29-2011

This story was cute and funny. I loved it the first time i read it while ago and enjoyed it all over again. Xena and Gabrielle's relationship is portayed in a very sweet way. Nice read. - ladyjulianna - Jan 24th, 2003

Wow This story is really good. I have to give it a 10. It starts off initially with a more somber, more brooding tone, seeming to be more about Xena's reconciling her past crimes with her present good deeds, which she attributes entirely to Gabrielle's influence, and not her own spirit or fortitude, as she seems unable to see the person she has become and can only see the violent and cruel warlord she was. But then it moves to a high strangeness quality and inter dimensional realms, which is a subject I've personally love and find quite hair raising and mentally tingling when written well, which this story certainly is. And then from there it encompasses Gabrielle's backbone and strength of mind when she's placed in a ghastly violent position. And if that wasn't enough to keep you under its spell, the story then segues, bringing with it all its previous element, into a more amusing and funny ending with Xena doing a bit of stand-up. This was a really entertaining read that I personally found very rewarding. Check this author out. She's gooooooooooooood. - Karon Reiter - Jul-27-2011

What a moving, wonderful story! To all who still need closure for the show's ending -- a closure made even more necesary by the horror that was FIN -- this is it. - jerseygirl - Sep 4th, 2003

What a beautiful story! It left me absolutely speechless, with tears in my eyes. It bears out my personal conviction that, even beyond the moments of gripping drama, thrilling adventure, and enjoyable humor, XWP is one of THE greatest love stories in fiction ... and perhaps anywhere! - roxper - Jan 18th, 2005

I absolutely LOOOOVVVVEEEEDDD this story. It was extremely moving and i cry everytime i read it! :) - Crystal - May-15-2006

Every once in a while I read a classic piece that moves me. While I do not read very many classics, this one falls in that category. Perhaps I have missed them, but I have seen few stories that deal with our girls in old age as themselves. I was hesitant to read this story, I'm not sure why, I started and stopped a few times. I guess I'm one of those hangers on that still have visions of the show running around in my head. While this story does not end with Xena's head being lobbed off in the rain, the ending is very poignant and oh so Xena. - gayzer - May-20-2006

This story is absolutely fantastic and beautiful, even poetic - definitely one of my favorite Classics. Gets a Supersized-'A+' from me!
- MHR - Oct-25-2008

Love this story :-) Warning - MAJOR hankie alert at the end!!! - ChuChu - Mar-02-2009

Well written & nice story. Bitter sweet but such a better ending than the series... thank you - LtLamazon - Jan-31-2011

even in old age, one remains stoic and the other remains feisty.. what a way to go.. it is a very believable ending in that it keeps within the characters.. loved it.. - xtra dog - Nov-30-2011

Xena | Alternative | Drama | Novella - 60 pages | Finished | Jan-03
Cast: Xena, Gabrielle, Syri, Ptomaniae, Koenis, Cladiaties

Xena and Gabrielle, shipwrecked and near death, are plucked from the sea and restored to health by the crew of a sleek ship. They join the odd collection of mariners (including a Greek captain, a Thracian Amazon and an Egyptian mystic) on a desperate and bloody mission 'to right a wrong', and along the journey find themselves bound more closely than ever, as Gabrielle is forced to confront and vanquish the last of the demons of memory harbored in her deepest conscience.
That was truly a gem of a story. Loved it. If you are looking for adventure - read it. Thanks DJ - I've enjoyed everything you've written. So very talented !! - x/g fanfic fanatic - Aug-20-2010

I enjoyed this story. It was a well written satisfying read with some very new and interesting characters created by the author who went on to commercially publish them in a book called "An Amazons' Moon: A Tale of Syri, Athenian Mariner" sans Xena and Gabrielle. The Fast Ship is a story in which both Xena and Gabrielle are plucked from the sea by the captain of 'the fast ship', where the two were slowly dying as they drift along with no hope in sight as the sun beats down on them, literally burning them alive. After they recover from their rescue they're asked to join the captain and his assorted crew members on a mission to "right a wrong". Unable to say no as their lives are indebted to him, they experience a sea faring adventure with pirates and kidnappers that is an easy, pleasurable read, with little angst, but lots of battle sequences, displaying Xena's "many skills". However, there is lots of emotional reflection coming from Gabrielle who still feels guilty over Solon's death, but through a very alluring new character created by DJ, she finds strength in confronting her anguish and letting go. Enjoyable story. - kazy - Dec-06-2012

A really enjoyable story, made even more so by the characters this bard created. There is a sweetness between Xena and Gabrielle that is very compelling. - Anonymous - Sep-19-2017

Although the sequel to The Phoenix was enjoyable and tackled some tough emotional situations, the first was more enjoyable. The emotions and reactions of the Tink and Julie seemed more real in the first. However it was nice to see Julie and Tink get their happy ending. - Stacia - Aug-18-2013

I just read the first book and this sequel in one go!!!! This was excellent!!! I ACTUALLY WISH THAT THERE WAS A THIRD BOOK TO GO ALONG WITH THEM!!! This second book seemed to concentrate more on Tink's character than on Julie's. I would like to read more about Julie and her new life as a retired war hero. WA DYA THINK?!!!!!!!!! I THINK IT'S AN AWESOME IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Te` - Jul-01-2014

This was such a cute story, I can't believe that no one has recommended it. I just found it by accident and I loved it, and Suzie was so funny and cute. This is a must read for one of those long and dreary days, it'll be sure to put a smile on your face. - Anonymous - May-22-2009

The previous dozen or so Mel and Jan stories which I've penned for you span the time period from 1946 until the early 1950's. I've purposely avoided dealing with their initial meeting and romance in 1940 because so many other writers have done such wonderful, entertaining stories on the subject. I thought any effort of mine would pale in comparison.
Every single one of the stories in this series is touching and entertaining. But I didn't think that one would touch me as profoundly as this one did. DJ Belt has an innate ability to bring not only his characters and history to life, but the reader as well. What a truly wondrous story built around one of the most horrific times in human history. Thank for this astounding story. And thank you for keeping Jan, Mel, Xena and Gabrielle alive for us. - Kelly - Sep-03-2009

D.J. Belt's Mel & Janice stories are usually right on the money, and 'Slow Dance Of Love' is no exception. Set around actual events, it's a great tale with plenty of action, suspense, humor - and most important of all: Romance :) Thumbsup!
- MHR - Sep-25-2009

Beautiful story like I like them, with laughter, suspense, anguish, and a beautiful love story. Thank you. - JL - Jan-13-2012

DJ is THE Mel & Janice canon to anyone who truly follows M&J. Wonderful mid-century atmosphere, lovely relationship. I am a mid-century historian and Mel & Janice junkie. Perfect union. PLEASE DJ... more M&J ;-) - ChuChu353 - Sep-30-2012

This story takes place after (a long time after!) the grand finale of the sixth season, and is the result of a question lingering in my feeble mind concerning what happened after we saw Gabrielle sailing away, holding Xena's ashes. Who better to figure it out than their alter-ego/descendants from the 20th Century, Janice and Melinda with a bit of help from their friends? Get ready for mystery and adventure!
I loved this story !! I would recommend it to anyone. It was an enjoyable ride to say the least !! Excellent :-) - AJ - Aug 28th, 2002

'The Tomb' and indeed all of D.J. Belt's Mel & Janice stories belong IMO to the top 2 % of all M&J-fanfics on the Internet. Excellent stuff.

This is truly an inspired story! This author has constructed a wonderful SciFi tale resplendant with current issues and concerns and takes us through the darkness trimphantly to the light! Yes, Sara and Jeni are truly a winning combination, and you'll love this futuristic parable and will cheer along with those that see past prejudice and hate. A truly feel good tale! - Anastacia - Aug 5th, 2004

D.J.Belt, this is one of the best stories that I have read that uses a future world to express issues that are pertinent in this day and age. You have done an excellent, tasteful job of bringing to the forefront major concerns that affect all of us from marriage, to love and religion. This has been one of the most enjoyable stories that I have had the pleasure of reading. I love science fiction and you craftly managed to create a world that was mentally very visual to me. Thank you for a story well done. - Shadylady - Aug 6th, 2004

What a great, timely story and has something all of us can relate to. Give this story a try and you'll fall in love with the space pilot and space station keeper/writer. What a realistic, heart warming tale. Don't miss this one. - Stacia - Aug-18-2013

Lovely story. It's one of those stories that it teeters on the edge of being too sweet, but the wit and poignancy save it. I really liked its quirkiness. Well worth reading:-) - Lyn B - Jun-01-2011
