Original / Uber | Modern | Alternative | Romance (alt) | Novel - 227 pages | Finished | Sep-03 Cast: Kate, Jay, Governor, Gene Honors/Awards: #56 in 2003
What is the price of fame? For television news anchor and overnight national phenomenon Katherine Kyle the cost just might be everything. For Time magazine reporter Jamison Parker, the price could be the other half of her soul. Follow Kate and Jay as their lives intertwine, leading them on a journey to love and happiness, until fate and fame threaten to tear them apart.
The Price of Fame is a poignant page-turner that kept me up all night reading! Kate & Jay are well-developed, real life characters with whom I fell madly in love. The plot has many twists and turns and the author clearly knows how to spin a yarn. I can't wait for the sequel!! - Anonymous - Sep 3rd, 2003
Enjoyed the story.Must be hard to try to live a normal life in the public eye.Kate and Jay are compelling characters. I epecially enjoyed Fred-can he come over to play?Kate Lee - Kate Lee - Sep 3rd, 2003
Have you ever read a story that you could not put down. Well this one is one of those. I loved every minute of it and will reread it again, but next time I will make sure I start early enough. Kate and Jay are great for one another and when you read it you will see the connection. I cannot wait to read more from this bard. FANTASTIC!! - T. Stratton - Sep 3rd, 2003
This was a fantastic story. I was almost late to work, because I could not stop reading it. Lynn Ames offers a well written tale with wonderfully fleshed out characters. You will wish they were your friends. Kate and Jay are the cutest couple to come along in a while.I recommend this story to anyone looking for romance, angst, action, and just a good story to read. - Toni - Sep 4th, 2003
This was an absolute great story. Once I started I couldn't stop reading it. Because I'm a hopeless romantic, this story was right up my alley. To have your own hero is a wonderful thing. - Joy - Sep 4th, 2003
What a wonderful story Lynn Ames has shared with us. The characters of Kate and Jay are so well drawn you feel you know them. This is a great romantic tale that sweeps you along for an amazing ride. I couldn't stop reading. - EG - Sep 4th, 2003

I have lost count of how many times I have reread this marvelous story, but it is definitely worth every moment I spent. In my humble opinion "The Price of Fame" is one of the finest works here. The story will grab you right from the very first chapter and won't let you go until the final sentence. I would highly recommend that you read it, and then, like me, you will be anxiously waiting for the sequel. - Alex P. - Apr 2nd, 2004

Tuesday, Friday, January 18, 2008- Announcement
I hope you are all rested and relaxed after the holidays, and that the new year has started off well for you.
Here's a gentle reminder that Valentine's Day is a little more than three weeks from today. Flowers are lovely to be sure; very traditional and certain to win you points. But here's a novel idea (I can hear you groaning from here): why not consider getting that special someone the perfect romance to keep by the bedside? Just a thought .
Book news:
I just received the latest review of Heartsong, so I thought I'd share it with you:
Early in Heartsong one of the main characters states, "Life is seldom as we plan it. What we do--how we act and react in those unscripted moments--that, in my opinion, is what defines who we are". Those words are a window into the message of this book. There are many unscripted moments in the lives of Danica and Chase, and, in the telling, is how each character reacts.
Danica Warren lost her lover of eighteen years in an avalanche. She was able to save herself, and three others, but not Sandy. In the three years following, she has written a best selling memoir and built a successful career as a motivational speaker. She has not forgiven herself for Sandy's death.
Chase Crosley is the CEO of the New York State Credit Union Association. While her luck in love has not been good, she has built a successful career and a network of friends. She wasn't prepared for meeting Danica Warren.
Heartsong explores the idea of a love between two people that transcends all that has come before and which follows after. It's the idea that there is one great love for each of us, if we can but find and recognize it. For Danica and Chase, the connection is instantaneous. The problems they face are huge. As their story continues, each must cope with challenges and emotional obstacles.
Ames has given her fans a story with staying power and hope. She also challenges her readers that finding their one great love is not the end of the road; each must work to keep that love and to help it grow.

In other book news: Beyond Instinct, my new thriller, is due to the editor February 5th. Keep the Diet Cokes coming! More caffeine! I'm almost there. LOL. I hope you all will enjoy reading it as much as I'm enjoying writing it.
Registration is open for the 2008 Golden Crown Literary Society Conference. If you haven't attended one of these, you've missed out on a rare opportunity to interact with some of the greatest writers in lesbian fiction and other incredible readers. Go here to check out the conference: http://www.gclscon.com/
A few personal notes:
I'm crushed, simply crushed, to have to tell you that I've been passed over to sing the national anthem at the Superbowl here in Phoenix February 3rd. If, by some miracle, my New York Giants make it to the big dance, I guess I'm going to have to find some other way to get into the game.
Finally, for reasons I cannot fully comprehend, I have foolishly agreed to be part of a three-person triathalon team. The race, which takes place April 20th, is called Tri for the Cure, and it benefits the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Research. I'll be handling the swimming leg (which my friends conveniently neglected to tell me was first at 7 a.m.!). It's been 35 years since I last swam competitively, so this ought to be interesting. I know it's early in the charitable giving season yet, but if any of you are interested in donating to the Susan G. Komen Foundation on behalf of my team, please e-mail me and I'll send you a link.
Thanks for reading!

Hi folks.
I just wanted to give y'all a quick update.
First, thanks to all of you who came out to see me in Provincetown. The week was a smashing success. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces, and to meet so many new fans, as well. Now Voyager sold out of Heartsong within one hour, reordered and stocked the next day (thanks to Mark for hustling up more books), and sold out again. Wow! Sales at Womencrafts were also brisk. Pictures of my Women's Week appearances are now up in the appearances section of my website (www.lynnames.com).
Speaking of Heartsong, I've been very gratified by the responses of those of you who have already finished the book. You guys read too fast. LOL. Here's one of the best compliments I think anyone has ever paid me. It came from Sheilah, who made the trip to P-town all the way from Alabama. Sheilah e-mailed me a few days ago to say:
"I finished reading Heartsong two days ago. I have been wondering what is so different about your writing. Usually when I pick up a book of this genre I am looking for a mindless read. Your writing style is anything but mindless. You do not write to the 'lowest common denominator' I'm thinking. The reader's brain has to be engaged. Thanks...keep up the great works. Can't wait for the next one!"
Trust me, there's no rest for the wicked. I'm already at work on Beyond Instinct, a thriller that will debut in July 2008.
And because it can never get too hot for me, I'm heading out of the frying pan and into the fire...literally. Well, I sincerely hope that the flames are out by the time I get there. My heart goes out to all who have been affected by the fires in Southern California. To distract y'all just a bit, I'll be appearing at The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Community Center in San Diego on Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at 7 p.m. I'll be reading from Heartsong, and answering questions. The good folks at Obelisk have been kind enough to supply the books for you to buy (and which I'll happily sign for you). I hope to see you there!
In the meantime, keep reading!

Hi folks,
I wanted to share with you that I went to the black-tie gala Arizona Book Awards last night put on by the Arizona Book Publishers Association. The group makes its awards once every two years for the best in a variety of categories. The criteria are that either the publisher must be based in Arizona, the author must reside in AZ, or at least a portion of the book must take place in AZ.
The categories included things like: Best Adult Fiction, Best YA Fiction, Best Coffee Table Book, Best Cook Book, Best Travel Book, Best Psychology/Self-Help, Best Mystery/Suspense, Best Poetry... You get the idea. Oh, and Best Gay/Lesbian (including fiction and non-fiction, gay and lesbian all together).
I'm am still trying to wrap my head around the fact that the panel of judges (all of whom are straight, I assume, since they were the same judges for all categories, although perhaps I shouldn't make assumptions...) selected The Value of Valor as Best Gay/Lesbian Book. Knock me over with a feather.
I wish you all could've been there with me. Apart from the fact that I appeared to be the only lesbian in the room, I think you would've appreciated my very brief acceptance speech (all spontaneous). I said, "Wow, talk about being outed in spectacular fashion. I admit it...I'm an author." (that got a really big laugh). "My great, great thanks to the Arizona Book Publishers Association for including this category. This means more to me than you can know. Thank you."
My thanks to all of you who read my books and support me along the way--I'm very glad to have you all to share this with.
I look forward to seeing those of you who will be in P-town this week. I'll be there in a couple of days! My understanding is that Heartsong is already available for sale there. I hope some of you will have it read before I get there so you can tell me how it ends (and NO, you shouldn't read the ending first). LOL.

Monday, September 10, 2007- Announcement
Hi,
folks,
I hope
you had a great summer. I know the burning question on your mind is,
did Lynn Ames' brain survive being fried in that record Valley
of the Sun heat?
The
answer is...what was the question again? LOL. Oh, yeah.
Luckily,
I was able to salvage a brain cell or two. The dogs have been fanning
me with grape leaves all summer. I promise to bring them with me (the
brain cells, not the dogs)to the East Coast and the chill of a New
England fall next month.
My
brand new romance, Heartsong,
will make its debut in Provincetown, Massachussetts for Women's Week
(October 6 to October 14, 2007). I haven't been this excited
since...well, since my last book was released.
In an
effort to raise your level of enthusiasm, too, I've uploaded the
first chapter of Heartsong
to a hidden page on my website. For the next few days, you,
my most loyal fans, will be the only ones with the address to the
chapter. You won't need a decoder ring to find it--I'm giving you the
link below. It's just my way of saying "thank you" for all
the love and support you've given me and continue to give me.
I hope
you enjoy what you read and are enticed to buy Heartsong.
Please be sure to share your thoughts with me--y'all know I love
feedback.
I've
included my schedule of appearances for Provincetown below (the full
schedule is also on my website, www.lynnames.com).
If
you're going to be in the area, I do hope you'll stop by and say
hello. I've got two readings and five book signings lined up. The
readings will include Q & A, which is always interesting. I will
read different excerpts at each sitting, so feel free to attend both,
you won't be bored (I hope).
Last
year fifty people showed up to the Fairbanks reading and I was blown
away. I hope to better that record this year. Kathleen and Alicia,
our gracious hosts at the Fairbanks, assure me there will be enough
wine and cheese for everyone (not that I'm trying to bribe you or
anything. *blink blink*). Also new this year, my books will be
available for sale at the Fairbanks event.
If
you're planning to be in P-town, you might want to pre-order your
copies of Heartsong
or any other of my books from Mark at Now Voyager. That way you can
be assured your book will be set aside for you and I will be happy to
autograph it for you when I arrive. I've included pre-order
information on my website. I'm sure Mark will be only too happy to
take pre-orders for those of you who won't be in P-town, as well, and
mail them to you once I've personalized and signed them for you.
I look
forward to seeing those of you who can make it to P-town. For those
of you who can't, I hope you'll pick up the book and let me know what
you think when you've had a chance to read it. Non-autographed
pre-orders will be available in the next few weeks from StarCrossed
Productions. Please check my website for updates as they become
available.
Keep
reading,
Lynn

I hope the summer has been treating y'all well so far, and that whatever you're doing, you're having fun doing it.
Website Update
My website (www.lynnames.com) has just been updated with brand-new pictures of my adventures in Atlanta at the GCLS Convention. For those of you I saw there, it was a pleasure. For those of you who weren't there, you missed a great event and I hope to see you there next year. To see the new pics (and re-visit old ones), just click on the Appearances link on the home page.
New Book Release Update
I am very pleased to announce that Heartsong, my soon-to-be-released new romance, is now in the hands of the typesetter and is on schedule for an October release. In case you need a refresher, the synopsis for the book is on the home page of my website. And for those of you who might be too lazy (yes, you know who you are) to click over there or are reading your e-mail on your phones (hopefully not while driving, ahem), here it is:
After three years spent mourning the death of her partner in a tragic climbing accident, Danica Warren has re-emerged in the public eye. With a best-selling memoir, a blockbuster movie about her heroic efforts to save three other climbers, and a successful career on the motivational speaking circuit, Danica has convinced herself that her life can be full without love.
When Chase Crosley walks into Danica's field of vision everything changes. Danica is suddenly faced with questions she's never pondered.
Is there really one love that transcends all concepts of space and time? One great love that joins two hearts so that they beat as one? One moment of recognition when twin flames join and burn together?
Will Danica and Chase be able to overcome the barriers standing between them and find forever? And can that love be sustained, even in the face of cruel circumstances and fate?
Other New Book News
My next book is already in the works. It's a page-turning thriller called Beyond Instinct. It will be out in 2008. I'd tell you more, but then I'd have to kill you and I don't think I'd be allowed to keep the royalties while in jail. So, you can see, you're just going to have to be patient.
Am I a tease? Nah.
Upcoming Appearances
I will be in Provincetown, MA, October 9 - October 14 for Women's Week 2007. That's the debut of Heartsong, and I'm looking forward to seeing many of you there. If you can't find me, it'll mean you're not looking, since I'll be making at least one appearance (readings, signings, and reading/signings) everyday from Wednesday, October 10th through Saturday, October 13th.
The exact details of a couple of the times are still being finalized, so I will give you the full, finalized and confirmed schedule as we get closer to the date.
In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your summer, don't forget the sunblock, and have a Pina Colada for me.
Best regards,
Lynn

Hi, folks.
Forgive me, for I have sinned. It's been too long since my last confess...er...update. I've got lots of exciting news for you, so please bear with me.
First, I'm starting a new world tour--or at least I'll make it to select cities on the East coast. I'm calling this the:
Lynn Ames, I couldn't possibly be old enough to have graduated college 25 years ago, it's just that I was a child prodigy Tour.
Alternatively titled, "The Geritol Tour." The first person to show up with a walker meant for my use gets kicked out personally by me.
Here are the stops as they exist at the moment. I'll keep you posted as any additions or changes are made, or check back at my website (more on that later).
Monday, June 4, 2007 -- 7:00 p.m. Borders Books Saratoga Springs, New York
395 Broadway
Saratoga Springs, NY 12866
Phone: 518.583.1200
I will be reading from, and signing, copies of The Flip Side of Desire. In addition, if prodded and plied with enough milk chocolate and/or cookie dough ice cream, I will give the very first sneak preview of my new novel Heartsong (more on that further down).
Thursday, June 7, 2007 - Sunday, June 10, 2007 Golden Crown Literary Society (GCLS) 3rd Annual Convention
Sheraton Midtown Atlanta at Colony Square
188 14th Street NE
Atlanta, Georgia 30361
Phone (404) 892-6000
If you attend only one convention this year, this should be the one. The GCLS convention will feature the hottest authors in lesbian fiction today, dozens of informative education sessions, most major publishers of lesbian fiction will attend, there's a huge vendor area, autograph sessions, and the 3rd Annual GCLS Awards (where The Flip Side of Desire is a finalist for the 2007 Ann Bannon Popular Choice Award).
My personal schedule includes moderating a panel on Thursday afternoon June 7th entitled: Author's Shameless Secrets Panel/Reading. Panelists at my mercy will be: Karin Kallmaker, Jennifer Fulton, Nell Stark, Georgia Beers, Ali Vali, and Lara Zielinski.
On Saturday morning June 9th, I will conduct a 2-hour workshop entitled: Putting the Thrill in Thriller. Here's a brief synopsis:
An interactive presentation and workshop covering what differentiates a thriller from other genres (i.e. mystery), variations on a thriller, and discussion of different types of thrillers. What elements are necessary to make a thriller thrilling and to ensure readers will keep turning the page? How does one find the seeds of a thriller and give birth to it? Will include small group work where participants will be given a set of facts and observations and asked to create the genesis of a plot, then collaborate on an approach to turning that kernel of an idea into a novel.
For more information on the GCLS Convention, visit their website at www.gclscon.com. For more information on the very worthwhile GCLS organization, itself, please visit http://www.goldencrown.org/.
Tuesday, October 9, 2007 - Sunday, October 14, 2007 Women's Week Provincetown, Massachusetts
I will be doing various readings and book signings for Heartsong, which will be released just in time for Women's Week (more on Heartsong in a second--patience is a virtue. LOL). More details on exact dates and times for the Women's Week festivities will be forthcoming as we get closer to the date.
On the "what's in the works" front:
My next novel, a beautiful, poignant romance entitled Heartsong, will be released at the beginning of October. Here's all the information:

Hi, folks.
I just wanted to drop you a quick note of gratitude. No author succeeds without the support of loyal fans and new readers, alike.
Yesterday, my newest novel The Flip Side of Desire, reached a milestone, climbing to #2 on Amazon.com's list of lesbian best-sellers. Believe me when I tell you that took some of the sting out of my 7 a.m. root canal (third time for the same tooth. LOL).
Many of you have heard me say in person or in interviews that The Flip Side is the most difficult book I've ever written in terms of the emotional demands it made on me as an author. To watch this novel succeed in such spectacular fashion is both humbling and gratifying to me beyond words.
So please accept my sincere and befuddled thanks for your continued support and readership.
Best regards,
Lynn
P.S. I'm looking forward to meeting those of you who will be in Portland, Oregon at my appearance (In Other Words Books) on August 17th. For those of you who can't make it, I expect to have pictures of the event on my website sometime the last week in August.
P.P.S. The pictures of Atlanta from June are now up in the appearances section of the website for your viewing pleasure. *wink*

My latest novel, The Flip Side of Desire, is now available for pre-order (go to my website and click on the book cover for a sneak preview and ordering information). It will be released officially on May 15th. This, my fourth novel, is a bit of a departure for me. It's the closest thing to a classic romance I've ever written. I hope you enjoy it. Please drop me a line to let me know what you thought of it if you do read it. I love hearing from you.
In conjunction with the book release, I'm embarking on a book tour. At present I have appearances scheduled at:
Lambda Rising Bookstore--7 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2006
1625 Connecticut Ave NW
Washington, DC 20009
Telephone #: (202) 462-6969
Charis Books & More--6 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2006
1189 Euclid Avenue
Atlanta, GA 30307
Telephone #: (404) 524-0304
I hope to see some of you there! Also, I'll be speaking and signing during the upcoming Golden Crown Literary Society convention in Atlanta, GA June 8 - 11th. If you're interested, go to http://www.gclscon.com/ for more information. The GCLS is a great organization and the convention is very educational and way too much fun.
There are other book signings in the works for Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington in August (dates still to be finalized) and I will be appearing and signing in Provincetown for Women's Week in October. Other dates and locations will be added. If you're a book store owner and you'd like to book an appearance (pun intended), please feel free to e-mail me--I'd love to come see you!
If you're in the UK, there's a small Q & A with me in the current issue of Dykelife magazine. Lesbians on the Loose in Australia is about to run a piece on me (I think it's the June issue), and I've just completed an interview for Book Fetish (interesting questions) that you can find at www.bookfetish.org.
