After seeing the latest Tomb Raider flick and wishing Lara had had a cute little blonde as a sidekick, reading Ri's latest installment was just what the doctor ordered! I love Lara and Sarah and how they can communicate and how the relationship with Aries works. It's really nice seeing the God of War as an homage to Kevin Smith - Ri does a great job and it's a pleasure to see them all again! Thanks for an enjoyable read! - Anastacia - Aug 5th, 2003

I just finished the whole Time Flies series. I really love the relationship between Lara and Sarah. It makes me realize how wrong the producers of the movies are. You hit the nail on the head with this series Ri, Sarah is the type that Lara would fall for. It was all well done and I loved this one alot. I especially loved how you tied up all the ends of Twelve. Fantastic Series!!!! - Danni - Aug 15th, 2003

As always I always love to follow the adventures of Lara and Sarah. There was a lot of depth in this one though and I really liked seeing some layers with Lara, she has so much depth that Sarah helps her with that it makes me want more of this dynamic duo. - Bradie - Sep 3rd, 2003

Cast: Maria, Tara
Written for the Intrepid Challenge, this is a sweet tale of how friendship blossoms into love and how that love is shared and a family is born.
I truly loved this story I wanted more. The beautiful relationship that was built up for that family was meant to be explored. Please lets have some more...Please? - jay - Dec 28th, 2003

Family Aboardà.By RiThis story was a great. You understood the shock and anger Tara felt when she saw Maria step out of the plane with the two babies was understandable. The way Maria found it hard to tell Tara was also understandable. The way the two babies would change their lives forever is an understatement. It brought them together like they had hoped for years. Love comes in small packages. Yet sometimes in those small packages is the biggest love of all. - Intrepid judge2 - Jan 3rd, 2004

Family Aboardà.By RiOne says a picture says more than a thousand words. That may be true. This story is the first one entered into the Pic Challenge. It was inspired by a picture of 2 pairs of babies and 2 ladies and a sign saying twins onboard. It is in itself not much to go with. Ri has filled us in on the version she sees behind this picture and I have to tell you folks, I feel truly honored to have been able to take part in it by reading her story. The story portrays a short space in time where big changes are happening. It portrays honest emotions that the characters feel. It shows events that are truly something special. I would not mind finding a sequel to this one in the month to come. (hint hint to the author) - Intrepid judge1 - Jan 3rd, 2004

Family Aboard by RiThis was a great read. I liked the unique way you brought the twins into the story and how the addition made the women realize their feelings for one another was deeper than friendship. I would love to see a sequel to this and see the other set of blonde twins brought in! Maybe the pair decide to have another set or adopt more! - Intrepid judge3 - Jan 3rd, 2004

This was such a sweet loving tale of the making of a family. Thank you it's a beautiful story, and I really needed it. - Toni - Feb 15th, 2004

I loved this story, It has two things that are very dear to me. It is true love coming at last to two people who had been freinds for a very long time. The other is that it pointed out a state of sadness in the world that these two people did there part to correct. A perfect story:) - milly - Mar 7th, 2004

fascinating story of the effect one person has on others. I love how Xena handles it. Very interesting peice, Thanks Ri - Anonymous - Sep 6th, 2003

I really didn't know what to expect when I started to read this story I wthought maybe it was her explaining The Guantet to Gabrielle. Instead it was story of discovery for the Warrior. I was enchanted by it. Excellent! - Shane - Sep 15th, 2003

I thought this was an interesting idea, to follow what happened after Xena's redemtion to the men she lead before she changed. I liked how it played out and her reaction to what the men had done after she left with Hercules. Well done. - Ron - Mar 24th, 2004

Part 1 of the Veba and Rickie Series
Series List: Ghost (The), Growing Pains, Growing Up Together, Learning Curve
In this unorthodox 'ghost' story, two unlikely and endearing people meet and form a bond while trying to resolve an old wrong and get the justice that is deserved. A one-of-a-kind love story!
This is not your 'average' ghost story! It is a tale of two meant to be together meeting in improbable circumstances and fighting 'unusual' odds. A sweet beginning to what could be a great series as the main character grows and develops into her own! - Anastacia13 - Dec 11th, 2002

This is such a beautiful and different love story. I was completly enchanted. - Annie - Dec 13th, 2002

This was a unique story. Who would think that a phantom-of-the-office-building story could work so well? An entertaining read that was a breath of fresh air. Thanks for sharing this, Ri. - Taleweaver - Dec 20th, 2002

I didn't really expect the way this story stole my heart. It did though, I just fell head over heals for Veba. She is the sweetest, most loving soul I've had the privilage to read in Uber Fandom. Thank you Ri. - Jotha - Apr 15th, 2003

I love Veba!!! This was such a sweet tale. How could anyone not fall under the spell of such a sweet soul? I can't wait to read the next story listed here. Thank you Ri I wasn't feeling well and this made me feel much better. - Roxi - Jun 21st, 2003

Veba and Rickie are a breath of fresh air. I just loved them. It was nice to read a romantic uber with such an interesting twist. Thanks for the great read! - Tani - Jul 15th, 2003

This was such an unusual story! I loved it. Veba is so sweet and gentle yet she is truly a Xena because this girl is so amazing. I am going to read the sequel too. I can't wait!!! - Jackie - Oct 21st, 2003

This is the best story to read for Valentines day. I want a ghost of my own. How can you help falling in love with Veba and her Rickie. - joanie - Feb 12th, 2004

I love Veba! How could anyone with a heart not fall in love with such a good soul. She is wonderful, I think Rickie needs her as much as she needs Rickie. Great job! I can't wait to read the rest. - Kate - Aug 8th, 2004

I love this beautiful story. I was so captured I read it in one sitting. I wish I could just start exploring a building and find myself my own Veba. Thank you for this lovely touching peice. - Darlene - Sep 14th, 2004

I would agree that this story is on many levels a good one, and I did enjoy reading it. There is one thing however that really bothered me and that I can't seem to move past. When we first meet Veba, she has the emotional maturity of a small child, and yet Rickie immediately has an overt sexual interest in her. That part not only doesn't ring true for me, it really puts me off. When they meet, Rickie knows nothing about Veba expect that she is emotionally stuck at a 6 year old level...and she immediately falls for Veba and wants to get her into bed? Hmmmm. I don't think so. - Chris - Sep 17th, 2004

I love this story. I think it is beautiful and sweet, Veba is just so adorable and she loves Rickie so. Rickie becomes herself through Veba, Veba brings out all her softness and vulnerablity. Its a loving tale of overcoming great odds. I have read the whole series with fascination. - lily - Sep 28th, 2004

I think this is one of my favorite fan fiction stories that I have in my collection. I have re-read it a dozen times and it never loses its freshness. Veba is the most darling creation. I truly love her and I love to read about her. Thank you Ri for creating such a wonderful charachter. - Tonnie - Apr 3rd, 2005

This is the most touching story I have read in recent years. Sweet, loving gentle. I love it. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. You have to cheer for someone like Veba, a true hero. Well done. - Sandy L - Nov-10-2006

I have wanted to read this story for a long time but wanted to read the whole series. Now I had the time and boy was it worth it. Wow! What a great series. I am totally in love with Veba, I think I will check out every office building till I find my Veba. - fanny - Nov-16-2006

It was soooo great to read about Rickie and Veba. I am just so drawn to Veba, its a great sequel I hope Ri writes more. - Niki - Jan 31st, 2003

What a wonderful sequel, I love watching Veba grow and Rickie is wonderful and warm. Its a very special love story. - Gracie - Mar 7th, 2003

This was very well done because you can see Veba grow but she didn't get a miracle cure and speak like she wanted right away. Ri even had a part where she went backwards. Also it was nice to watch how much of a family the three women became in this next part. I love it. Thank you. - Monti - Apr 22nd, 2003

I loved this sequel but it made me hungry for more. I loved watching Veba grow and learn. I can't wait to read the next installment to find out what happend next. Um, when are you posting it Ri? - Tani - Jul 18th, 2003

I think its fantastic to watch Veba become more her self and Rickie guiding her in her own gentle way. Its fun to see what Veba reads but the part that really got to me was when Rickie got hurt and how Veba reacted that was amazing!!!! - Anonymous - Aug 29th, 2003

This was something that I think it is really hard to do. It is a very good sequel to an excellent story. I really loved it, I think Veba is one of the most interesting charachters in the Xenaverse and it is wonderful to watch her develop. The love bond between her and Rickie is very beautiful and it was great to see Dory happy too! - Ann - Oct 28th, 2003

I love Veba! She is just sooooo adorable I want to take her home with me and love her. The way she reacts to everything is just so lovely. I wnnt more. Please Ri lets have more Veba soon! - Jac - Jan 8th, 2004

I was so deeply into this story that I read it at work and forgot I was at work. I adore this story, these people have such heart. I really adore this family. I love watching Veba grow and mature and Rickie become softer and even more loving. It was also a really good mystery. Just an excellent story. - Luckie - Mar 8th, 2004

I loved this story and read this along with the previous two all in one night (which shows how good they all are). It is a must read and I am hoping for more stories including Veba and Rickie very soon. Veba is just sooo sweet. - Anonymous - Apr 8th, 2004

It is amazing how I really care about Veba and Rickie. I think that this was such a fantastic series because I have never read a Uber where every day the charachter who is the Xena-Uber looks in wonder at everything around her. Its just mind blowing yet you beleive it and pull for her in every sitation. Very well done. - Anonymous - Jul 28th, 2004

I really loved this story. It was fun to see Veba grow more confident and the change in Rickie too. Really well done mystery as well. I love reading about these two ladies this my 4th time reading all the stories and just love this series. Will there be more??? - Kelli - Feb 9th, 2006

How To Steal A Million Revisited by Ri
Original / Uber | Modern | Alternative | Romance (alt) | Short Story - 12 pages | Finished | Sept-02
Cast: Nat, Kate
In the authors' own words, this was a lark that turned into a story; it is based on one of her favorite comedies, and basically a tribute to a film that gave her so much pleasure. In this new re-telling the heroines, of course are modeled after a couple of ladies we all know and love.
This is one of the funniest stories that Ri's ever written. I had to go out and rent the original and you know what I like Ri's version better because the robbery makes more sense then in film. I have to admit I love the relationship between the two leads and the way she wove the orginal concept into a whole new story, I can't wait to read the second part Million Dollar Baby! - Pip - Oct 14th, 2002

She was so classy. The people in this part of town just weren't like her certainly not as beautiful, she with a sigh. Roxie was happily employed by the first mixed hockey league ever. Candy had been coming to see her for 3 straight weeks...suddenly one of the players got a clear shot and hit the puck toward the goal, which hit the edge of post and ricocheted right toward Candy...

Play (The) by Ri

Cast: Cleo, Clemy, Poirot, Mon, Clemintine, Anny, Margarite
Inspired by Agatha Christie and featuring one of her famous detectives, Ri presents us with Cleopatra Thomas, better known as Cleo by everyone that knew the tall striking brunette,a well known, up and coming actress. She had already been in several West End parts and featured roles. Poirot was pretty sure the only reason she was working in this small theater was because of her sweet friend, Clemintine Brighton the author of the play. It was she who had entreated him to come to the plays opening...would it be possible they would be in need of his assistance?
I really like see the girls relating with the great Hercule Poirot. It was a really good original mystery too and to see the obvious descents of Xena and Gabrielle working with the great to detective to solve it was a BLAST!!! - Anonymous - Oct 5th, 2002

I really like this story a lot. I am a huge Agatha Christie fan and have read a lot of her novels and I think this story captures her spirit very well. - Jackie - Jan 16th, 2003

I never would have even thought of putting a Uber Xena and Gabrielle with Agatha Christie's hero. But it works they work really well with Hercule and it is a damn good mystery I did not guess who the murderer was and I didn't see how they would get the killer either. A well done Uber and Murder Mystery. - Tonie - May 20th, 2003

I love Cleo and Clemmy. This was a wonderful story and a good mystery in its own right. I knew it was tribute to Agatha Christie but I couldn't figure who did it right away I think this a worthy succesor to one of the great writers own stories. - Ronnie - Aug 10th, 2004

I always loved the mysteries by Agatha especially those staring the great Belgium detective. I think that Ri captured him perfectly. He was just like in the books by the wonderful Agatha Christie and yet it was still all her own style. The two very lovable Ubers Cleo and Clemmy sweetly helping the great detective solve the murder that they accidently got involved in was wonderful too. Just a wonderful mystery. - Ruthie - Jan 26th, 2005

I just finiehed The Play and I really hope there will be a second part. I really love Cleo and Clemmy. They are so cute and I love watching Poirot and Captain Hastings with them. Its a nice mix and was a very good mystery. - Pam - Mar 8th, 2005

~ An Interview with Ri The Bard ~
by Wizzy

See how this writer has grown over the years and learns about self publishing, as she tells us about her new book Murder Inc.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Ri lives in sunny Southern California where she has spent most of her life. She was born in Garden Grove just a stones throw from Disneyland, which explains her weird imagination. At six months she started her adventure of moving all over the place. Starting in several locations in Los Angeles County then to Toledo, Ohio and Sumerset, New Jersey. She returned as a pre teen to the different locations in the San Fernando Valley, a suburb of Los Angeles.

Ri has been writing since she was a small child. She was inspired by Ray Bradbury and Agatha Christie. She loved writing but has had to make a living in a varied number of ways. She worked as an actress, a travel agent and in several forms of customer service. Her passion though has always been writing. She loves and enjoys both reading and writing fan fiction. Murder Inc is her first attempt at original fiction.

FROM THE PUBLISHER

Alex Bennett led a double life. She was known the world over as the highly successful founder of a toy software company. But she was also the head of the infamous Murder, Inc. A situation she didn't want but felt an obligation to fulfill until she met the lovely Patty Darcy and suddenly she wanted to just be the head of Toys Inc. Now she had something to fight for. Will the love of this sweet woman help her get out from under the weight of family obligations? Will she be able to share the kind of life with Patty that she wants?

How long have you been writing creative fiction?

I have been writing fiction since I was 11 years old. I wrote a Greek myth in school. It was only suppose to be a 1 page but mine was about 10 pages.

What is your favorite fan fiction story you have written and why?

That's hard to answer, I have written many and I have a great deal of affection for all of them. I guess I have three stories that are my most favorite.

Murder Inc, It was my first attempt at uber and I was still feeling my way in it. I really like Alex and Patty. They were characters that flowed easily from head to the paper I was writing on. Alex was sweet and vulnerable under a tough exterior and Patty was strong and brave under her shy exterior. Very special.

The Ghost series, I really adore Veba, She was one of the hardest characters I had to develop. She was so bright but her communication skills were so lacking I had hard time with the balance. I love the way she and Rickie have developed. Veba becoming more confident and Rickie becoming softer. The hardest part was the first story with Veba having a hard time communicating what she was thinking and feeling. It took me the longest time to write The Ghost. I love them very much because it was such a difficult birth.

The third would be The Time Flies series. I love Lara and Sarah. I can't claim Lara Croft but I can say I gave her a bit more soul and depth then even the movie did. Sarah was my creation and I think she is great. It was fun writing that series because I experimented with sex and spiritualism. It was something I enjoyed writing but was nervous trying since I had never done that before. There is more coming about these two by the way J

Why and when did you start writing?

I started writing for fun and because I was kind of lonely. It was intoxicating that I could do anything and create any kind of person I wanted to. I enjoyed trying to write in different styles and different type of stories. I started to write fan fiction when I was in college it was different then. I was into the original Star Trek. There were clubs and fanzines. You sold them via magazines and fan letters. I was very active in both fanzines and writing stuff for newsletters. I remember sitting in the lounge in the library at my college I was suppose to writing a midterm but I was writing a Star Trek story for a zine. I was always doing that. I was majoring in Anthropology one of the requirements I take a philosophy class. I wrote my paper on the relationship between Kirk, Spock, McCoy as Peacemaker, Parent and Child, it was a 10 page paper and I got an A. I ran into my Professor 10 years later and he remembered the paper. So when the internet came along and I discovered fan fiction on the net I latched onto it with enthusiasm. In fact my bard name came from character I created for a Star Trek story.

What story are you most proud of?

Again that is a really hard question to answer. I can only narrow it down to two,

Murder Inc, because I worked so long and hard to make it book ready. To develop the characters and make them better. I worked hard to make Alex believable and Patty not be too mushy. It was a long hard process but I am very proud of the outcome.

The other is The Ghost. I love Veba and Rickie. I am proud of them and if I can I want it to be the next book I publish. I think I have grown a lot as a writer and it shows in this story. I think that all the effort I poured into Veba has resulted in a very lovable and relatable character.

How did you lay out your story Murder Incorporated?

It was first written as a serial story. I don't pre-plot my stories I just let them flow. I always write every story long hand I don't feel a connection to it unless I do. Then when I decided to publish I basically tore each chapter apart and put it back together adding and taking away elements. One addition to novel was the furry ball of fluff that Patty took to Alex's mansion. I was reworking that first chapter and when I finished I wrote my beta reader and cried, "I added a cat!" Then I realized I had to figure a way to add her to the text. It's really funny I get a lot of letters about the cat that didn't exist before. You never know what your muse will do.

What inspired Murder Incorporated?

Well it started with a movie I saw about a female assassin. I thought that was interesting concept but I didn't like how it was done in the movie (She was too controlled by the man who ran the mob and he kills her at the end of the movie) so I thought I put it in the back burner if I ever had an idea that it would fit I would do my own idea of the concept. Then many years later I started to write a scene about a fabulous woman who hated Christmas shopping which was interrupted by gun fire. Then the female assassin idea came to me and I thought, "Hmm, What if I make Alex the head of Murder Inc., and she knew the gunman. That was the beginning of Murder Inc.

How long did it take you to complete it?

The serial story about two months, The book about 9 months. The edits about 9 more months. Getting it published, too long.

What made you decide to go with self-publishing your book?

I had bad experiences with some publishers. I also disagreed with changes other publishers wanted me to make in my original concept. I really felt that it was ready so I decided to do it myself. I am very glad.

How difficult was it to self-publish Murder Incorporated?

It wasn't hard at all. I paid for it to be published chose my package and with in three months, it was on Barnes and Noble and Amazon. I was very excited!

Was it costly to do so?

The company I went to has several packages; it was not expensive as I thought it would be. They also give the writer a lot of control and rights. They assign someone to help you ready the book and then someone else to help you afterwards. It is pretty complete and they do all the distributing and put all the info you give them on the different sites.

Do you find it hard to self promote your book with out a publisher to help sales of Murder Incorporated?

That is the hardest part for me. I am pretty shy and quiet. I don't talk about myself a lot. I am friendly but I am not great with crowds. Anyone who met me at the Xena Con can back me on this. I do have very proud parents though. My Dad has given stuff to everyone at Blue Cross. People at different websites have been very generous and supportive like my friends at the Sandbox and I am very grateful to them. I am finding it hard to find independent book stores in my area to help me. They are disappearing around here because of the big book stores. I am plugging away though.

Where do readers find your book for sale?

Its on both Barnes and Noble and Amazon.

Will you sign their copies upon request?

Of course, I will be happy to J

Tomber, a person who loves fan fiction, April 14, 2006,

Fantastic story!!!!

I thought this was such a good story. I loved the action and adventure but I found the characters very human. I loved how tough Alex was but under it all she was just a marshmallow. I loved watching Patty become stronger and stronger. Worth every penny.

Judie, A reviewer, March 26, 2006,

Good read

Good read, liked the characters, I've read a number of RI's short stories and it is nice to see her work in print. I hope there to see more of RI's in book form :).

A reviewer, March 23, 2006,

Romance in the mob a very different twist. The mob boss is a woman, and she's gay! Don Corleone would not approve, but the mixture of love and murder for hire makes you turn pages rapidly for the next surprise.

Personal reviews from a reader off the net....

Murder Inc. - RI

Fiction / Mystery

Wow what a different kind of book. It was definitely one of RI's better ones. Once you started reading, you couldn't imagine what would happen next. Who would have ever thought that someone who owned a toy software company would also be a contract killer (even if it was handed down to her).

This is the story of Alex Bennett, a tall beautiful woman who has everything that she could ever need or want; money, cars, a double life, but finding as she is getting older, her life is perhaps a bit too exciting. She is the owner of a Toy Software Company and the head of Murder Inc. (a contract for hire company). Through a series of mishaps she meets and wants to know better a small strawberry blonde named Patty Darcy. Patty Darcy brings out something in Alex that has been dormant for a long time, her need to love and be loved. Her need to be a better person in both her eyes and in Patty's eyes. This book will have you rooting for these two women and all the while wondering if true love is possible through all the murderous odds that are put in front of them and seem to be against them.

RI has come a long way in her writings over the years. And this reader feels that she can only get better with time.
