Tomahawk'd By DS Bauden (Original / Uber - Modern, 193 Pages)
Tomahawk.d, the first full-length novel from DS Bauden in three years, is a story that was well worth the wait. The author demonstrates her talent and versatility by creating a story completely different from her previous work, both in theme and style. The common thread between this story and Bauden.s previous books, is that readers will become so involved with the characters, they may forget they are fiction and continue to think about them long after the back cover has been closed. It is a book that is difficult to put down and includes twist and turns the reader won.t be expecting. - Reader - Mar-25-2006

Monday, March 20, 2006 - New Fan Fiction

  • Our thanks to everyone that pointed out what wasn't working over the last few weeks on The Athenaeum. With over 7,000 documents tucked away in our little library, and having to update them all, it was no surprise that we missed some. Unfortunately, as everyone is no doubt aware of, our transfer to the new webhost didn't go as smoothly as we would have liked. In the database migration we think about 70 story records (out of 5200) were lost. Exactly which stories were lost is rather difficult to tell at this point. If you notice anything missing, we really would appreciate an e-mail telling us about it.

Also, all of our story files now have an .html extension. If you've linked to anything with a .cfm, .hts, or .mv extension, you'll need to change it.

  • There's a new Top-25 list today! J This list covers the last few weeks on the old Yahoo Site. One bard gets her first #1 ever this week! Next week we'll post the list from the first few weeks on our new site.
  • KTBard's alternative X:WP A Letter to Live (1 page).
  • DS Bauden's alternative Original / Uber (Modern) Tomahawk'd (193 pages).
  • Anonymous' alternative Original / Uber (Modern) The Letting Go (6 pages).

The Irresistable Flame By DJWP (X:WP, 49 Pages)
I've read DJWP's other brilliant works but for some reason avoided this one. I didn't like the idea of the plot. I am a FOOL. This story is truly, truly, excellent. If you have't read it yet, do so NOW! X & G are perfectly written, their imporobable love deeply inspiring, and the historic and military elements of the story fascinating and thrilling. It also manages to be dark and funny in turn. DJWP, you bloody rule! - vee - Mar-19-2006
Fifty Winters Ago By IseQween (X:WP, 51 Pages)
Wonderful story! Just love how the author depicted the relationship between X&G. - aurelius - Mar-19-2006

The Texas Summer - An UberXena Adventure By JS Stephens (Xena: Janice and Mel - 1900-1960, 19 Pages)
Actually, this story is set in the around 1876, not the 20th century. - JS Stephens - Mar-17-2006
    Editor's Note: Corrected.
The Judging of the Queen By Pysta (X:WP, 91 Pages)
Wow. That's the first word that popped into my head after I read this story. It is THE best post-FIN story I have ever read. It doesn't cut corners; it doesn't spare emotion--yet it doesn't go overboard. The writing itself is fabulous, some of the smoothest and most...bard-like I've read. And the ending is so satisfying! I cannot wait to see more from this wonderful author. - Anonymous - Mar-17-2006
Hidden Desires By Vertigo (Original / Uber - Modern, 32 Pages)
I love this author and this story is definitely one of my favourites. The characters are so real you can almost feel what they're feeling and live vicariously through them. This is a wonderful story and I would recommend everyone to read it, you'll never forget it. - Nathaly R, Dominican Republic - March 17 2006 - Mar-17-2006
The Official Guide to Rescuing and Maintaining Damsels in Distress By K. Alexander (Original / Uber - Ancient, 132 Pages)

    Xeno's Dilemma By Larisa (X:WP, 37 Pages)
I didn't think Larisa could get any funnier, but she sure tha Hell did! - Jesse James. - Mar-15-2006
Swing Time By Larisa (Original / Uber - Modern, 102 Pages)
Everytime I turn around my best friend is sending these to me. I wouldn't complain but she keeps comparin' them to me. Now, the fact is completely disturbing that I have to admit she's right, I do alot of those things, and make matters worse, I would say alot of those things. Larisa, keep it up hon'. - Jesse James. - Mar-15-2006
Semper Fi By Larisa (Original / Uber - Modern, 73 Pages)
I have to say that my time in the Marines has been just as funny and it helped me laugh when I felt like screamin'. I just wish that the sgt's were as funny! Larisa, ya did another funny one. - Jesse James - Mar-15-2006
Sanitation Engineer (The) By Larisa (Original / Uber - Modern, 67 Pages)
I look at stories like this and I can't help but laugh my butt off, my Goddess where on earth does Larisa get this stuff from? - Jesse James - Mar-15-2006
Ripper's Heart By Larisa (Original / Uber - Modern, 58 Pages)
I have to say that when Sam and Brian started singing that song about Jesse James my mother thought I was gonna bust my gut I was laughing so hard, my cat was looking at me like I should be institutionalized. Now my mother keeps gettin' annoyed 'cuz whenever I do somethin' agrivatin' to them I start singing that song. I can't help it. Yes I may be nuts but these stories are the best! - Jesse James. - Mar-15-2006
Hill Jack Conspiracy By Larisa (Original / Uber - Modern, 84 Pages)
I have to say that this was one of the most amusing stories I've read of Larisa's. I'm what a lot of people would refer to as a country hick so when my best friend read this one she made me read it. I've always had an obsession with The Secret Squirrel and so it really amused me alot, of course my tatoo of Secret Squirrel isn't in the same place but I wish I had thought of it :D. I just wish Larisa would write one based in Georgia. It would really rock if she based one in Gainesville GA. - Jesse James - Mar-15-2006
Appalachian Trails By Larisa (Original / Uber - Modern, 97 Pages)
I loved this story, not too many of the fanfic authors are able to capture me with any of their stories, but Larisa has captured my attention with every story. They contain the right amount of humor, romance, and some violence. Gotta love it, with Appalachian Trails I was transfixed to the screen until I had read every line. - Jesse James - Mar-15-2006

At A Distance By Melissa Good (X:WP, 171 Pages)
The only fan fiction writer that I have ever asked to marry me. LOL. Missy has a way of writing Xena and Gabrielle. She had taken a different path from the series since "The Quest". I'm so thankful that she did because for all of those weekly Xena withdrawals, then those re-runs months, the whole fifth season, and now the end of the series, her stories have kept the Xena and Gabrielle saga alive for me more than any other classic stories. What I love most about Missy's stories are the relationships between the characters. That's not to say that her stories lack action, heck no, but Xena and Gabrielle could be picking their teeth and I would like to read about it in a Missy story. Thank you - BYL - Mar-14-2006
Amazons of the Dahomey (The) By Susan Smith (X:WP, 210 Pages)
Susan Smith has a unique gift in telling a story. Though I cannot see the Xena and Gabrielle from the TV series in her story, but she had taken the characters of Xena and Gabrielle into another world of her own creation filled with drama, adventure, and romance. When I read this story, I always thought it more of an uber than classic Xena fiction, though it is not exactly uber and more of classic. I think only a great story teller can do that flawlessly. Thank you. - BYL - Mar-14-2006
All Through The Night By Rebekah (X:WP, 42 Pages)
One of the greatest fan fiction classics. Rebekah, you will be missed. Thank you. - BYL - Mar-14-2006
About that Kiss By Trish Kerr (Phopas) (X:WP, 48 Pages)
This is one of the very first fan fiction stories that I have read back when it was first posted. And because of it, I became more hooked with the Xenaverse. I have yet to read it a second time but I remember it well. Phopas has such a strong grip with the characters of Xena and Gabrielle in the early days of the series that she describes them to perfection. A very good novel with everything that one can wish for. Also look for its sequel. Highly recommended! Thank you Phopas. - BYL - Mar-14-2006
Somewhere In Time By Friction (X:WP, 132 Pages)
I think I must have read this story at least five times. It is beautifully written. Because of it I even went out to search for the movie with the same name starring Christopher Reeve. Let me tell you the only thing common between the two is the name! The movie is a bore while I couldn't stop reading this story, and it gets better every time I read it. This story has everything, drama, romance, and also a sense of adventure. I think Friction is one of the greatest bards in the Xenaverse. Highly recommended! - BYL - Mar-14-2006
Beginnings By Fingersmith (Original / Uber - Modern, 206 Pages)
A fantastic read. Excellent characters and plot. Fingersmith has written a story with such feeling and heart I couldn't put it down. Loved it. - Katie - Mar-14-2006
Blood and Honor By Windstar and Zee (Original / Uber - Ancient, 226 Pages)
So I found myself bored one day and thought that I would read a nice story, came here to find one and I curiously picked out "Blood and Honor". Started to read it and before I knew it time had flown and I was totally involved in this story, the characters, the events, the place where these women lived, everything...I was totally hooked. I can honestly say one of the best stories I have read in a LONG time. Hopefully you both finish it SOON!!!! This is a definitely recommend....it's a 10!!! Take care! - N - Mar-13-2006
Academy's Finest (The) By Sandra Barret (Original / Uber - Futuristic, 66 Pages)
Talk about a wonderful story, this is fantastic. - purplehawke - Mar-13-2006
Buried Prejudices By Larisa (Original / Uber - Modern, 93 Pages)
I love tis story. I cant tell you how many time. I have this story over and over. - Jaime - Mar-12-2006
After The Curtain Falls By Kathleen Wolf (X:WP, 250 Pages)
This was a great story, although i am hoping one day there will be a follow on story, there were so many questions left unanswered and so many who escaped retribution, but otherwise a great story!!! - Lissa - Mar-12-2006
Fate By DE Salsbury (Original / Uber - Modern, 581 Pages)
I have just one thing to say....is there a sequel..and if so where is it. - Tina - Mar-11-2006
Business Trip By Lady J (Original / Uber - Modern, 109 Pages)
Wow. This story is a must read. - LJ - Mar-11-2006
Blood and Honor By Windstar and Zee (Original / Uber - Ancient, 226 Pages)
So wonderfully written and well thought out, with rich characters and detail, that I'm sure this world must actually exist somewhere :) Pick it up, read two pages and you won't be able to put it down...and you'll thank me for it! - Chris - Mar-10-2006
    Last Dance By C. J. Harte (X:WP, 7 Pages)
This is an incredible story of love. This is a gifted writer. I've read her other three pieces as well and am amazed at the talent. Thank you - Patty - Mar-10-2006
Crossing Over Jordan By C. J. Harte (Original / Uber - Modern, 5 Pages)
What a delightful story! I noticed CJ Harte has a new story-Dreams of Bali - I can't wait for the rest! Please more! - Maggie - Mar-10-2006

I don't know why I delayed reading this when it's such a fantastic story. Wonderful dialogue and characters, fast paced, doesn't hurt your brain but has enough twists to keep you hanging for the end. Sexy, hot, assertive, spunky, smart and gentle. Stone is a writer who hits the mark everytime. - E - Mar-07-2006

  • We're back.   Again.  Hopefully.  Our first attempt at moving didn't work out so well. After speaking with our new hosting company, we're trying again. Instead of an MS Access database, we're now using MySQL. With any luck, this should work for us. For the next week our address will be: http://xenafiction.net/. If we are stable for a week, we'll transfer the domain name over to the new hosting company. You should not use xenafiction.net until we transfer it.

Beginning tomorrow (hopefully) we will start getting caught up with the stories people have sent us over the last few weeks.

  • We're back! J  We have new features, a faster server, and an almost intact website.  Well, two out of three ain't bad!  We're toiling away to getting everything working...  If you see anything that's not working, please, please, please tell us.  We can't fix it, if we don't know it's broken.  Make sure you check out our new Cast searching feature on our main page.  Over 80% of our listed works now show a cast - and that includes the Original/Ubers!

I wouldn't expect another update until Monday.  We're awfully tired...  You wouldn't believe how heavy those boxes of scrolls were. ;-)  The Top-25 will return on Monday, and the Artwork of the Day should return no later then early next week.

Gabrielle's Stormy Past by bluebard (alternative, 53 Pages)
This is a really beautiful, erotic, and heartfelt story about the budding (but problematic) romance between Xena and Gabrielle. One of their adventures stirs up something in Gabrielle's past, and once the "thread is pulled," everything just comes apart. I loved the way the author made this alternate version of Gabrielle's past (and the way she met Xena at Poteidaia) so believeable. I also loved seeing Xena save Gabrielle's soul, for once! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! - xena_stickdoll Feb 6th, 2006

Storms of War by JLynn (alternative, 441 Pages)
An absolute classic Xena fanfiction that should NOT BE MISSED!!
Written after the end of the show's run, this shows that great Xena/Gabrielle fanfiction can still be produced.
    Wonderful! - Kerry Jan 19th, 2006
Past Tense, Future Perfect by Anne Laughlin (alternative, Original/Über - Modern, 50 Pages)
This is a delightful, easy read. (My only wish is that I could read a whole book from Anne.) It's also nice to read some "grown up" lesbian fiction where the characters are older than 20 and are living and dealing with life (…not just experiencing pure lesbian drama). I am now attached to the characters because I can't help but like them and relate to their realness. Anne has the ability to write in a straight-forward way that leaves the reader just enough room for their own imagination to play. I think the word for this type of writing is eloquent. - Rita B Jan 19th, 2006

Hearts and Flowers Border by Fingersmith (alternative, Original/Über - Modern, 151 Pages)
I read this last too but it doesn't make any difference. Loved it! Loved the style the writer has used. Full of humor and emotion and I couldn't stop reading once I started. Thank you. - Vicky Jan 17th, 2006
Dwelling in the Past by Fingersmith (alternative, Original/Über - Modern, 134 Pages)
What a story! So many emotions in here and it scared the crap out of me at times too. This is so atmospheric and cleverly written. Well done, Fingersmith. Any chance of a sequel? - Vicky Jan 17th, 2006
Possession by Zee (alternative, Original/Über - Modern, 52 Pages)
I don't usually get into the halloween or horror stories. HOWEVER, this story was very intriguing and it kept me reading. Yes, it had blood and gore but it had drama and a bit of humor. The character of Gigamore was very unique. This is the best Halloween offering I remember reading. Zee, if the mood or muse ever strikes you, I would definitely read a sequel, especially involving Gigamore. - Gabsfan Jan 16th, 2006

Conqueror's Carol (A) by Iro B Hunter (alternative, 12 Pages)
I really liked this, it was definitely cute. It was a nice plot concept... a scrooge Conqueror. And it was great to see a new Conqueror story. Thank you! - Red Hope Jan 15th, 2006
Northern Love - Journal of A Lesbian Summer Romance by Elle Carey (alternative, Original/Über - Modern, 7 Pages)
A wonderful read. Absolutely enthralling, so much so that the reader feels as though they cannot remove their eyes from the screen, stop the anticipation or simply put the book out of their mind. It is a wonderful recountment and anecdotal interpretation of the author's thought processes and immersion into a love that she never thought could exist in her realm. I loved reading about the barbed-wire fences, so to speak, that the two had to climb and conquer to make their love work.
Give us more and please, tell us that your love lasts! I think many of us would like to find a love as significant as this. Does it get any better? - Anonymous Jan 15th, 2006
Things of Youth (The) by Brigid Doyle (General, 31 Pages)
A great story from a legend in Xena fanfiction. There may not be much in the way of subtext, but the love is there for all to see. Go read for a bit of nostalgia and remember just how good classic fanfic used to be. - Kerry Jan 15th, 2006
Scapegoat (The) by Lola B. (alternative, 106 Pages)
Superb! This is highly recommended to all those that pine for the old classic days of fanfiction. We need more of this please!! :) - Kerry Jan 15th, 2006
Xena and Gabrielle and The Terrifying Mystery of The Darkness by Xena's Little Bitch (alternative, 29 Pages)
This is a great classic Xena and Gabrielle story, the kind where they arrive at a town where something's wrong and they fix it. It's early on in their travels together, and there's romance in the air. A playful yet dark tale, with interesting supporting characters, and an original plot. - Lady O' The Lake Jan 13th, 2006
Long Way Home (The) by Jamie Boughen (alternative, 36 Pages)
This story gives a deep meditation of Xena and Gab's complicated feeling, hatred, grieve, rue, and most important the insistence of the love to each other. It is hard to see our favorite x&g to tell their suffering, but after we know how hey felt, it is easier to accept their reunite than "the rift". It is worth to be read. - wind Jan 13th, 2006

Something More Then This by Bardzlife (alternative, 50+ Pages)
Somthing More Than This is extremely well written with rich flavor, a growing plot, carismatic characters who reach out and make you wish you were there to share the emotions the passion and the excitement of thier world. I loved the smaller secondary bard tales, little stories, mixed in with the main plot. I loved the fact that the emotions careened out of control, running the gammit from joyous to fear then anguish and sorrow and stoicism, showing a truely gifted ability this writer has with words. I do not usually seek out the XWP work but I'm so happy I didnt pass on this one. Read it and enjoy. If you are a writer or someone that is learning to write...this piece of work shows a huge talent and skill that some stories posted on the net will never have. - JLNickymaster Jan 11th, 2006

Into the Void by RJ Nolan (alternative, ST:Voyager, 162 Pages)
A definite must read! I was elated to find out there's a continuation, which the author has so far updated everyday. Never read any ST Voyager fiction until RJ Nolan's "Unexpected Arrival," which I could not put down until finished. Into the Void is another awsome story from an awsome and talented author. - blazinangelwings Jan 11th, 2006

Look Into My Eyes by Frost (alternative, 28 Pages)
This story has the potential to be one of the best in the uber-xenaverse, but sadly it remains unfinished after several years. Most of the fanfic indices only have the first two parts, but there are actually five total (google it). - Lynn Jan 9th, 2006
Editor's Note: Actually there are a total of 6 parts, and after 6 years, will likely never be completed.

Scapegoat (The) by Lola B. (alternative, 106 Pages)
Most of the stories don't show such deep feelings. This one however, shows them all, just how I have always imagined Xena's & Gabrielle's love. That is exactly what I look for in a good post-FIN story. Excellent job! *standing ovation*

I'd love to read more pieces of Art written by this talented bard :)

Unanswered Prayers by Leslaureate (alternative, Original/Über - Modern, 40 Pages)
Gifted author, Amy G. (aka Leslaureate), returns to fiction land, to captivate us with a very sweet and touching coming of age story. We first come to know, Solange (Sollie), through the eyes of her teenage journal, as glimpses of her past, up through her college years are revealed. As the story unfolds, we are drawn into the sweet alluring romance of first love and its sometimes unexpected, bitter after taste. Set against the backdrop of a high school reunion, Sollie learns that even in the mists of what seems like "Unanswered prayer", her deepest dreams are soon to be realized. This is a lesson we would all be wise to learn. Exceptionally entertaining romance, of women in love, that is filled with passion and betrayal, and takes off soaring, as the pages unfold. Highly recommended reading. Welcome back Amy, and I look forward to reading more from you! - Solar Jan 2nd, 2006

Grey Ice by Evecho (alternative, Original/Über - Modern, 6 Pages)
I was cruising around the net and ran across this once again. I remember reading this before and thinking OH MY GOODNESS. This PWP is exceptionally well written, drawing your sex in with a clenching rise of desire. It has a continuing mini-plot that begs the imagination to wander into incredibly erotic arenas. I especially like the offered cigar at the end. This was extremely hot. I've scoured for the author's other works and am happy to know there are others. EXCELLENT! - JLNicky Jan 1st, 2006
