99. RJ Nolan's alternative Original/Über In A Heartbeat (158 pages)

Honors/Awards:  Perenial Favorite Award: #03 in 2003, #04 in 2004, #99 in 2005.   Two Time Top-25 #1.
Officer Sam McKenna and her rookie partner receive an urgent radio call. There's a man with a gun in a local Emergency Room. As they race toward the hospital little does Sam know she is racing toward her destiny. When she confronts the gunman her life is forever changed...

I read this story probably since the first day it was posted and was SO blown away by it. And now, I'm lying awake at night, remembering the characters and just can't seem to let them go. In my opinion, IN A HEARTBEAT is an incredible story, very captivating and real enough that some of us can connect to. The emotions, the struggles..it all just shaped the story into one that touched my heart. This is a story that I've re-read several times as well as it's sequel Entwined Lives. - T.F. Oct 18th, 2004

Great story, awesome character developement.I laughed and I cried...sometimes at the same time. Highly recommend, this bard knows how to craft a compelling tale. - Sue Oct 3rd, 2004

SUPERB...ONE in a milinon... But wher is the rest????Need MORE PLZ - Keegan Conner Sep 19th, 2003

I enjoyed this bard's first story LA Metropolitan so was happy to see a companion piece. Wow! This one was even better. In A Heartbeat is a wonderful love story. The characters are funny, compelling and presented in a well balanced manner. Once you start reading you won't want to stop! Great story and a throughly entertaining read. Hope to see more of these ladies. - Beth Sep 13th, 2003

As I said I would do, I read this novella by R. Nolan late last night on into early this morning. I was impressed. This is a well written story which definitely showcases R. Nolan's writing talent. "In A Hearbeat" is a beautiful love story that leaves you wanting to read more about it's two lovely heroines. And this is not a PWP tale. This work of fiction definitely has a heart and a soul wrapped around a nice story line. You'll understand where the title comes from not too long after you start reading. You'll find yourself on cruise-control as you glide from chapter to chapter. Then suddenly, it's over. And you have to stop. But most certainly, you're filled with a craving for more. This cleverly written and totally entertaining fictional delight was, indeed, a follow-up to "LA Metroplitan", but it's definitely left behind in this sequel's wake. Where have you been hiding R. Nolan? I can most assuredly say I want to read more of this writer's work! - //AW Sep 7th, 2003

Excellent story! Well written and makes you want to keep reading to the very end. I look forward to reading more from this Author. - Anonymous Sep 6th, 2003

I was impressed with R Nolan's first offering "LA Metropolitan" so when I saw this companion piece, I was excited to read it. "In A Heartbeat" matched, if not surpassed her original work. The writing is well done, the characters are real and relatable. By the end of the story I was yearning for more. R Nolan writes a wonderful love story and I look forward to more work from this talented Bard. - Littlespit Sep 6th, 2003

The title "In A Heartbeat" caught my attention very quickly. Hmmm...I thought, perhaps a nice romantic story to read this evening to lift my spirits and soothe my very tired soul after an extremely busy work day. So, I ventured to commence reading this 'new' story to The Athenaeum. WOW!!! I read...and kept on reading...not letting go...not wanting to. I was 'hooked' very early on in this very well written and delightfully entertaining romantic tale. It certainly had gotten my attention and I found myself wanting 'more' even after completing the last chapter. This story by Ms Nolan is certainly a wonderful sequel to her first story, "LA Metropolitan"...and in my estimation, much moreso. This fictional interlude is more poignant, more riveting, more romantic, and more thought provoking in many ways. But, all in all...it's a story of...and about...'the power of love'. My suggestion is for y'all to read this one. Why?! 'Cuz you're really gonna like it. You truly are...'Fer sure!!! Well done,
Ms. Nolan...very well done. - ~Ag Sep 4th, 2003

98. Lena's alternative Original/Über The Tides Of Fate (55 pages)

97. Alex Tryst's alternative Original/Über Stick to the Script (184 pages)

Dashing and mysterious Hollywood newcomer Jamie Dean gets the opportunity of a lifetime to work with her favorite actress. Sarah Talbot, America's Sweetheart, wants to stretch her abilities in hopes of winning her first Oscar after years in the business. Together they venture through a suspense thriller, but what happens when the cameras aren't rolling? Is their chemistry only affected, or does the homebody win the heart of the latest ladies' woman? Appearances from the characters of "Love in Photographs" and "Georgia on My Mind" included.

This was a fabulous third edition to the series! I absolutely loved it! I especially enjoyed the addition of children to the mix. That was something new for Alex's books, and she did a wonderful job with capturing them accurately. There was also a new twist to her usual girl meets girl story line, which I will not divulge so it can be a surprise to readers, but I will say it truly makes Jamie a more believable character. The contrast between her physicality and her "real" personality is wonderful. As for Sarah, she was a great, strong woman. It was nice to see women who know what they want and go for it. A great book! A must read for fans of her work, and if you've never read Alex's stuff before, you should read this series. It's some of her best! - Anonymous Jun 10th, 2003

Thanks Patricia and Xanja98 for the story, loved the multiple layers of the words, the archetypal imagery in both stories. Looking forward to the next part of the trilogy. - Anonymous Nov 15th, 2005

HI, Xanjaa and Patricia,
Wow!!! What a great ending to the story! My emotions were on over load and my stomach was doing flips. I had to get up from reading the battle it was stressing me out. Nice job, usually I get lost reading them and have a hard time figuring out who is doing what to whom. Your description of what Tynet had to endure depressed me but then the human race can be pretty cruel to each other. I Liked the heart to heart talk that Ephiny and Pony had about Adara. Pony had to love Adara enough to let her be happy. That whole story line was beautifully written, very touching. I got kind of upset when I thought you killed Pony, nice one. I am glad everyone made it threw all right, I like happy endings. Thank you for a great story. I`m looking forward to reading the next parts. - Nancy G. Nov 6th, 2005

I am very much enjoying your story. It is nice to read a new Xena tale for a change.
Thank you! - Nancy G. Apr 24th, 2005

Impossible to stop reading, a story with extraordinary depth

Some how I missed your first story. Had to go back and read it. I liked it; Xena and Amazons always a good story. The Persian Encounter is even better than the first part. Cannot wait for more! Thank you!
- Nancy G. Mar 29th, 2005

I like the Pesian Encounter because you have managed to write with depth. I see the places you describe. I know the characters you paint. I experience the story myself, as if I am living it. Your story fires my magination. That is the mark of a truly good Bard. For that, I thank every one of you! May your quills ever remain sharp, and your inkwells perpetually full!! Thanks! - Justine Mar 26th, 2005

91. Larisa's alternative Original/Über Swing Time (102 pages)

Honors/Awards:  Perenial Favorite Award:  #07 in 2004, #91 in 2005.   Top-25 #1.
The Swing Time Ballroom was dark and smoky just like it had been more than 60 years before. Not much had changed in the place. Mac blinked her eyes a few times and then walked to the middle of the long mahogany bar. She pulled out a long cigar, snipped the end off with her cutter and slid it between her lips. Searching her pockets, she pulled out her silver Zippo and burned the end before lighting it. With one eye squinted, she looked to the bartender and gave her a crooked grin. "Hey Sally gimme a bourbon neat and some pretzels if you have any." Sally pushed back her dyed red hair, eyed Mac and shook her head of long curls. MacKenna Jones, Private Investigator, lived in the past and that's the way she liked it. However, a sticky case and her loyal secretarys' grandaughter may just change that, as the tall, gangly Truman becomes Mac's indomitable Girl Friday and fate calls for more than a beautiful friendship.

Hilarious story with great chemistry between characters - Shyn Jun 6th, 2005

I just read this tender love story for the second time. What a wonderful tour de force by Ms. Tryst! It is so difficult to maintain the speaker's voice in first-person narratives, but she does it beautifully. - Linda Feb 14th, 2005

only one problem the fonts are to small!:~) - Wizzy Aug 9th, 2003

I have found that finding a Larisa story is like receiving a box of fancy chocolates. You say to yourself, “I’ll just put these aside for a special moment.” But the very thought of just having them somewhere preys on your mind. Taunting, tempting, seducing you. Next things you know you’re in a chocolate induced coma.
Larisa’s stories are just like that. I think I have managed to go 5 hours after printing one up before I read it. Once I start reading, nothing else matters. The house could burn down for all I care.
Don’t bother me, I’m reading LARISA !!!!!
DIABLO’S ISLAND has everything to keep your attention. Half nekkid women walking around. South Sea island paradise. Sailing around the ocean blue on a yacht with the before mention nekkid women. I’m telling you, what more could a girl ask for.
My favorite part was Gibbon sailing the yacht and keeping it on course, was priceless.

82. A.K. Naten's alternative Original/Über Turning Tides (272 pages)

Honors/Awards:  Top-25 #1.
Love is rarely perfect... sometimes it seems impossible. A young woman leaves her troubled past, determined to start a new life in a new city. When she becomes hopelessly entangled with a domineering, emotionally embattled individual, she doesn't know if it's a dream come true, or her worst nightmare.

Yup, this story is definitely addictive! Hoping for a sequel too! If you like
Turning Tides, you may wanna check out Poetry in Motion and When You Dance with the Devil by Harley. - UberCrazy May 3rd, 2005

Turning tides is a great read. It portrays the helplesness in the maelström of love and sexual attraction/need quite well.
Naten could have fleshed out some parts in more detail, added perspective or a bit more conclusion, such as: what of the "sneaky stepbrother"?. His machinations and the plans/deals he apparently made during his vacation are not referred to again further in the story. Perhaps a sequel is in the making?

Also the need for anonymous, strongly dominant sex. That, to my mind, could not just disappear overnight, so to speak. But well, those are just my thoughts.
I really enjoyed reading it and certainly recommed it to others!

Letterwolf - letterwolf Mar 12th, 2004

Very well done. Great character development. Plan some time when you read this, you won't want to stop. I'm hopeing there is a sequel ones of these dyas. - Anonymous Feb 9th, 2004

In this mystery, an old wrong is again brought to light as First Sergeant Merc Macgregor is assigned to guard Finnegan Draper, a High School teacher who has been seriously beaten and left for dead, and who Merc blames for her part in the long-ago incident. However, in usual Larisa fashion, things are not as they seem and sparks fly between the two protagonists and their cronies, to the innevitable attraction and bliss of the two former 'enemies.'

Another excellent offering from Larisa -- she just keeps getting better. I enjoyed the mystery -- didn't even come close to who the bad guy was. I always wait till things is done before starting as I know nothing will get done till I am done with the story. - Linda Feb 25th, 2004

Noemi and Terri .Wow this strory is great! A must read. - Anonymous Jul 8th, 2005

This comment contains spoilers.
I found the author's site and story by chance a couple of years ago, before she started posting here.
The basic premise is tangled - Noemi takes on the role of carer for her brother's ex-gf who is pregnant with his child. This story could have fallen apart in so many ways but the writer forges strongly ahead with every chapter. The focus and thread of the story is firm. There are sub-plots shoring the main couple nicely. The supporting characters are interesting; ranging from sleazy, benign, righteous to warm, funny and sexy.
Best of all (!), is the tortured soul herself, Noemi. Her character resounds with angst, anger, power, sadness and is oh, so very sexy. In my view, the earlier version of this story was much more powerful in it's rawness and sensuality but the revision has smoothed out some edges and added more to the surroundings. Personally, I think it detracts a little from Noemi's edgy characterisation but the story still remains one of my favourites.
The story moves very quickly from the start, we feel the restrained primality of Noemi and we learn about her family and personal demons. We are easily caught up in her activities and the story actually picks up heat the further it runs (note: glacier warning!). Terri is her catalyst for healing and loving again and her best friend's romance deserves a separate story of it's own.
Noemi is on my personal Tops list, I pull it for a good angsty, dramatic and erotic romance.

Brilliant work, Ms Ruiz. - E Sep 23rd, 2004

I totally loved this story!! Katia N. Ruiz did a BEAUTIFUL job in this story. Battle between lost love and finds in totally different person. I loved how Noemi endure the loss of her beloved, find Terri, a lonesome person carry the baby of her bastard brother. How they both over came their agruement; their will of their own lives, and stands together as one. How they have friends, family that truely loved them.
I loved how close Noemi's mother and father are close to one another, and her best friend, Victoria. She stand by for her friend, Noemi, and guide her to her trouble times. I'm crossing my fingers for the next seaqual to this exciting story.
Thanks Katia, for your for love of writing. Keep it up. - Bay Dec 13th, 2003

I owe this author an apology for when I first saw the word "revision" and the amount (55) of additional pages, I knew she'd ruined a perfectly good story. My bad. Ms. Ruiz, you have turned a good story into a great one. - Kaye Mar 4th, 2003

What can one say...? It was and is a great story.
When will the sequel be posted?
I am egerly wating for next part - SammyLee Feb 23rd, 2003

Katia, I could not stop reading your incredibly well told story until i was done...your character development...your insights into the torment and pain of our hero was wonderful...i hope you don't end it here...I WANT A WEDDING..MAYBE THEY CAN HAVE ANOTHER CHILD...LOL...

This is the 2nd story I've read by this talented bard and it's a great story with just the right mix of drama, angst and love. I love a story with well written secondary characters and this author has done that and more with "Noemi." Well written and well done. - Kay Dec 26th, 2002

An absolute fabulous work of art, and yes, I mean art. The way Ms. Ruiz described the events in this story is amazing. She gave in-depth detail of the surroundings, giving the reader a clear picture, almost as if one was watching a movie. Once I started reading the story, I couldn’t stop. In some parts, I was on the edge of my chair, chewing my nails. The best story I have read in a very long time.

Just wanted to give a comment on my favorite story, Noemi. Folks this is a wonderful story about two women coming together through adversity. One realizing that she can love again, and the other realizing that she is worthy to be loved. I have read the story 'numerous', ok over 20 times and I love it more each time I read it. You should read this story, and be sure to let Katia know what you think. - Tonya Coley  Oct 15th, 2002

76. Ronica Black's alternative Original/Über Exposed (18 pages)

Honors/Awards:  Perenial Favorite Award:  #24 in 2004, #76 in 2005.   Two Time Top-25 #1.
In this erotic tale, Gwen had memorized everything about Kyle and Cody's mom from Beth the first day she had seen her, and as an after school program teacher, she'd seen her every day. Beth had been noticing Gwen too since she was a breath takingly beautiful young woman with light brown hair, green eyes, incredibly fit and curvy body. Neither one knew just how to approach the other, but Gwens' second job takes care of that, which comes as a surprising exposure for both!

After reading Ms. Black's new novel "In TOO Deep", I wanted more! This is an adorable story with incredible characters. Great job! - HK Oct 13th, 2005

I think, I need a tall drink of water and a lap dance, not necessarily in that other. Thank you Ms Black. - B. Apr 27th, 2005

75. Greek Warrior's alternative Original/Über Leather and Lace (238 pages)

Honors/Awards:  Perenial Favorite Award:  #96 in 2002, #75 in 2005.
Raven, the head of a covert special operations team, is sent out with her team to protect the U.S. Ambassador to Turkey from a possible terrorist threat. It's not a mission that she and her team enjoy, being more used to blowing things up, assassinations, or covert extraction terrorists. Raven is sent in undercover to protect the Ambassador's daughter, while the rest of her team pose as Marine guards. The tough spec-ops captain is stunned when she finds that the girl she's supposed to protect is actually a twenty-one year old spunky, head strong, gorgeous strawberry blonde. Don't let the above fool you, this isn't really an action-adventure tale, and instead is a very enjoyable romance that has some great moments in it. Keep some ice nearby when you read this one, and don't read it at work!

This is really a great read folks. Greek Warrior has a way of not leeting you lose interst in this story. I can usally tell within 5 to 10 paragraphs if a book is going to hold my interst and I've got to say, once I started I couldn't stop until I was done. Hats off to you Greek Warrior!! A fabulous read. - Robin Hicks Apr 10th, 2005

I really loved reading it. It's a really great story. The interaction of the characters and the atmosphere are well written... it's a good mixture of "Bodyguard" (the movie), a family drama... and... well, let's put it that way: It gets kinda hot in the middle (very soon and very eager!)! HIGHLY RECOMMENDABLE! :-) - The Fic Addict Jan 26th, 2005

The ER Chief Besom had two choices - either fire Dr. Shay Gerard, whom he'd just heard the umpteenth complaint against or turn it over to the one person who could find out the deepest secrets of a spy. Enter Pez - tall, long dark hair and eyes that could pierce into your very soul...and Chief of Surgery. Can her unorthodox ways help her help Shay? What...who is she afraid of? Read on and find out, although somewhat graphic, this is yet another romp in the warped world of Larisa that will make you laugh and cry.

I really liked this story. The plot was awesome and the characters didn't get carried away. [wink. wink. poke. poke. nudge. nudge.]There weren't too many parts I wasn't allowed to read.
Good use of words, but not too complicated to read. My favorite line was "Can I get a wheelie chair for a frozen tater tot?"

PS I wish you would write more stories without the characters getting 'carried away'. - Nanaabelle's Grandson Aug 15th, 2003

it doesn't need comments... READ this story !! Larisa, you're one of the best bards !! - laurence Jul 31st, 2003

I must say I really do enjoy Larisa's stories very much. She has the ability to draw the reader into her story and keep them riveted to the screen. That being said I have but one criticism. The main characters are usually very likable and believable, but then the two goofy friends are always thrown in and they just completely detract from the story. I can't help but find them irritating and have to roll my eyes at their antics. I mean come on they don't act at all like real people do (well at least any people I have EVER met in my life). I personally enjoy being able to relate to the characers and they are simply impossible to relate to. This is just a personal opinion, of course. I would like to see Larisa turn her considerable talents towards writing something with more depth and emotion rather than finding new outrageous situations to throw these two annoying creatures into. - Peg Jul 12th, 2003

IMHO I believe this is one of her best. - Amanda Mar 16th, 2003

Larisa has found the formula that works everytime...I love her stories! Please keep them coming!!!! - LW Oct 5th, 2002

After wobbling a little with her last couple of stories, Larissa is back! "The Ice Princess" is well written, no lags or jags, just the author at her best. I loved the pez dispenser; it brought back childhood memories and a hankering for one of those solid, pure sugar treats that made me wired and able to run faster than anyone else. ;) Thanks and all that jazz to the author for an all-around good read.

73. A.K. Naten's alternative pre 20th century Original/Über Second Son (210 pages in 14 parts - Unfinished)

Honors/Awards:  Perenial Favorite Award:  #89 in 2004, #73 in 2005.
A Medieval-era tale that follows the story of two people who are brought together under less than ideal circumstances, and must learn to adapt to each other, as well as their new lives. Deception, heartache, and twists of fate complicate feelings and alter futures, and relationships struggle between bouts of love and despair.

Though there has been a huge gap in posting on this story, it's been well worth the wait. A.K. Naten has not let the lapse deter from the story's focus and momentum and I am looking forward reading to this continuing saga. - Kaye Aug 6th, 2005

beautifully written and a great romance story! cant wait for the upcoming chapters! - blazinangelwings Jan 13th, 2005

Brilliant! Speaking as someone that has read David Weber's wonderful series a number of times, including all the adjacent books, this is wonderfully written by an author that really knows the universe and the very specific character personalities in quite some detail, and honestly it is just lovely to read Honor finally doing that which I always prayed she would and knew was ultimately what she should; fall for a woman :) - Ryath May 16th, 2005

I’ve just ‘discovered’ Larisa’s stories. Buried Prejudices was fantastic, and I wan’t more, more, more!!!! - Anonymous Dec 11th, 2002

As with all of Larisa's stories, she grabs your undivided attention at the onset and you find you can't stop until the last sentence has been read. All her stories contain the standard beginning, middle, and end...but in between, they're packed with enough action and romance to make your reading a delighful pleasure. - ~M~ Jun 17th, 2002

This was a fantastic story. It was very well written and it had me until the very end. The characterization was great. I have to say though, I couldn't stand Paige. Detective Xepher Sallano, trying to solve what appear to be serial murders, keeps running into dead ends...literally. Then the Medical Examiner dies in the midst of the inverstigation, and his replacement is makes Sallano see red. It's hate at first sight for Chief Medical Examiner Brianna Meadows, too. Or is it? As the murders get more gruesome, Detective and ME find themselves involved...in more ways than one. This is another of Larisas' gripping tales with unconventional characters, laughs, love and gore, that will keep you spellbound.

This is my favorite Larisa story of all time...OMG..LOVE IT...Xepher and Bri rock, but I love the captain, they're always embarassing him HAHAHA...thanks Larisa..I've re-read this too many times now.....and it just gets better. - Anonymous Dec 11th, 2005

GREAT STORY!! READ IT!!! Alittle gory, but if you're like me and like that kinda stuff, its a keeper. Larisa, you rock! - Anonymous Jul 26th, 2005

I agree, there is gore galore but I like a story with grit so I was interested right away. I just read it in it's entirety, it's simply wonderful. I can see a Bone Collector 2 with Angelina here ... or is that wishful thinking? It would be a shame if you bypassed it simply because the graphic scenes may disturb you for it's got one of my highest ticks of approval. - Corbeau's Voyager Dec 1st, 2003

Here's a truly intriguing dark tale that might seem to be just another PI tale at first glance. A.C. Henley has masterfully constructed a gritty tale whose center is the dark enigmatic Quin McKee, a PI who does not play by the rules and yet gets the job done. She has friends in high places and in the lowest depths and her heart is something else...fraught with a world of hurt and then some. As the story opens, in crossing paths with those she once called friends after a three years absence, she now meets detective Vivian Walsh, one tough cop that might change her ways and mend some fences. But can the tall blonde break through the barriers and really get through to KcKee? Read on as Book One unravels some of the mysteries... - Anastacia Nov 20th, 2005

59. Elle Carey's alternative Original/Über Northern Love - Journal of A Lesbian Summer Romance (36 pages in 4 parts - Unfinished)

Honors/Awards: Top-25 #1.

Well, I like this story/journal as it has some interesting aspects delving into the writers character, how she grew up to some degree, how she especially relates to others and how she deals with her being gay. Location of story is kind of rustic but scenic. The circumstances are past and what you read is much like a back story. There are some funny lines and I like hearing how she deals with her life for the most part which is uncomfortable at times and even painful, though not unhappy. There was no email addy to give feedback to the author so hopefully that will be added to the next part. - KC Nov 10th, 2005

As if the insanity of the ER were not enough, St. Luke's Hospital in Washington D.C. features the insanity of one Dr. Jack and her associate loonies, which makes poor Dr. Waylon Porter want to scream. Enter the a tall woman with long black wild looking hair, baggy clothes and the voice of an angel that captured everyone's attention including hers, who with a group of bums stood singing in front of a captive audience of senior citizens that had come from the bus wreck right outside hospital doors! Waylon calls upstairs for a Psych consult, only to find out that the 'blue-eyed bum' is none other than Dr. Hudson 'The Dude' Halgenberg, the hospital psychiatrist. So the fun continues in this zany tale of love and suspense sure to grab you!

"The Blues" was the story that finally got me hooked and so I started reading a lot of Larisa's works.
Where do I begin?
I really love the goofy people in the story. No one is safe from embarrassing oneself. I think that's what makes the characters alive, not to mention the dialogues. - lectra Aug 7th, 2004

How many chances does a person get at a 'new life'? 'Period piece' set in the 1850's Oregon territory; Drama; Angst.

This comment contains spoilers.
New Life, Turning Tides and Second Son (not finished) are well written by this author. I like what A.K. Naten does with erotica in these three. Could limit some of the 'head talking' that each character gives to 'tell' us what they're thinking etc in Turning Tides...but it did keep me reading until finished. I think this will be a book Aug2005 according to A.K.N. page. I love stories that have the X character as she is in these pieces...gender straddling/dominance. S. Anne Gardner's great writing also comes to mind for strong X character's not to mention intriquing plots. - Anonymous Jan 12th, 2005

This one is a riot, J is totally bonkers(too much candy) but also very likeable. One word of advice DON'T READ AND DRINK AT THE SAME TIME b/c you WILL ruin your monitor. Another great one from Larisa. Please keep writing these great tales. - Draco Mar 23rd, 2005

Winner of the Intrepid Story Challenge, June 2003. Larisa has managed once again to totally ambush us with a great story. My recommendation to you is…JUST READ IT! - SammyLee Jul 18th, 2003

Sometimes fate has to hit you between the eyes to get your attention. Garrison Dexter and Largo Coogan certainly find this to be the case in this hilarious Larisa tale. Add to that a crazy cousin complete with the voices in her head and costumes to match, and some rather unorthodox breast enhancements, and you have another winner!!! You go, Larisa!!! - Michelle Jun 23rd, 2003

Take one Regina Taylor, record executive, tall, dark and dangerous. Add singer Kari Swift, not tall but she more than made up for her height with fatal cutness. Record Exec and Singer meet - match made in heaven right? NOT! It's hate at first sight as far as Kari is concerned...will Reggie be able to change her mind? Follow along and enter the stormy music world and see if they'll rock on!

Really enjoyed this one. KG's stuff is always wonderful but this was certainly fun. Would have made a very nice novella or even novel if the secondary characters had been fleshed out. However, everyone was quite three dimensinoal and the read was a pleasure. Would be nice to see these two again. Reggie's transformation was quite remarkable and it would be interesting to see what happens in the long run. Her past is just itching to come back and bite... well, you get the idea. - Roxytrek Mar 7th, 2004

A fantastic story filled with romance, action, and mystery! One of my favorites. Don't forget to vote for Fire Within for the top 100. It definitely deserves a high spot, and so do Anita Louise's other stories. Check them out! She's such a talented writer. - Jane Bond Feb 1st, 2004

A bevy of butt-kicking, intelligent, and gorgeous women head up the cast of this exceptional mystery. Anita Louise offers another well-written adventure that will transport the reader to exotic locales, place you in the middle of danger, and face-to-face with an element of the supernatural. And just in time for Valentine's Day, Anita puts the reader in the mood for romance as she weaves tales of enduring love within this novel. Will you be able to solve the mystery before the heroines? It will be quite the challenge, even for super sleuths. - Rachel Jan 31st, 2004

Oh, yeah, the Fire Within has so many tendrils of flames feeding marvelous characters, romance, plots, mysterious goings on and a hairy horror not born from a bad hair salon. You will cringe at times, put new wrinkles in your forehead trying to figure out the who the numerous bad guys are and get a free suntan
following the characters to valleys & desert locations. The gals are gorgeous, lovable, funny and fend quite well dealing with the bad guys. Not much this story failed to weave well into it pages. Don't miss this one and encourage the bard to write a sequel. Just too characters you want to see again and follow to another adventure. How about it, Anita Louise?

I'm up to date on my reading of "Fire Within" and can't wait for more! These characters have captivated me.

The town, the people, the strange going ons and now the monster that is scouring the countryside. It is a breath of fresh air to read a story that actually lets the readers feel 'every step.' A story that takes the reader on many adventures. I have laughed at times. Felt my heart beat faster when things got tense and scary.

I actually feel as if I am a part of this adventure. The love the women share is fantastic. Can’t wait to read more of this story.

Love it! But then again I'm a sucker for stories portraying a good group of friends; besides, there’s a really hot couple. In simple adjectives: sexy (very very!), funny, deep, unexpected, great. There, Jamie meets someone who might just make all the difference…Erin Casey. What a story! I just finished reading it and am seriously contemplating ringing in sick to read it all over again. Striker and Morien are two of the best characterisations I have seen yet (and I eat a lot of uber!). This story is a gem and I hope there is more to come.

Besides doing a fabulous job with the leads, Devize deserves a standing ovation for her carefully crafted minor characters. Danny had a part in my heart as much as anyone and its rare that you get a story that makes you care that much. and makes you scared... and makes you laugh... and makes you wanna hit certain people over the head for being infinitely stupid...

This one really does have it all. Read it now. It's the real deal. - Vee Apr 22nd, 2005

We meet Morien and Striker who will fall in love as will the readers with these two opposites. Guess which is tall & blue eyed! A story that is kind of sweet, but has danger, flight, bad guys, mystery all entwined with a soulmate love tale with some pitfalls. Dialogue is really good and descriptions of places, feelings and actions are so full of depth that you feel like a part of it. Hated to see it end & hope Devize writes a sequel. I miss Morien & Striker. - Sandy Jul 7th, 2004

Brilliant! This is an absolute corker of a story. I'm giving it 6.5 stars. Devize has written an astounding tale which has a great whodunitcatchthebadguys plot interspersed with a strong romantic thread and replete with angst.

The story will hook you and the revealing gems about our heroines will knock your socks off. Devize also kept me in a constant state of arousal by her teasers.

This is a hot one, folks. It has everything in an explosive fairytale romance for our uber couple. - E Jun 11th, 2004

This is one of the most beautifully written stories I have read in quite a while. Between the bad guys, a missing person, drugs, and other mysterious happenings, you will find a cleverly crafted story built around 2 characters you will fall in love with as you watch them fall in love with each other. This author uses her words to create visions that dance in your heart and paint for your soul. You will want to visit where these girls go, cheer for them, cry & sigh as their relationship grows and they come face to face with their fears, real or imagined. Bumpy roads, tears, and a sweet tenderness as well as some humor. The scenery is gorgeous and when words can create that in your mind, you gotta love this story and the creativity of this writers efforts. Book of the month? Maybe, but it is definitely my choice for Chocolate of the Month between two covers. - O Ger Jun 7th, 2004

Thank you, author, for the next 6 pages. This author is excellent at 'rifts.' The emotional distance S. Anne Gardner creates between the two main characters starts your heart pounding with a tension of wants, wants and more wants. (like a good serial that keeps you coming back) She also throws you head first into each of her stories, as an excellent writer will do..you are off and running within her text. I devoured the pages before breakfast! - Anonymous Mar 8th, 2005

I had the honor of reading this story several times even before it posted on the net. The characters seem to climb right out of the print and become implanted in your mind until you don't know if it is fiction or someone you really know. Been hoping for s. anne gardner to resume this story for the longest time, and now that she has cant wait for the next update!! Her stories draws the reader in and grabs hold, not letting go until the last word. They are always filled with so much emotion and you can almost feel it with the same amount of intensity and realism as the character. highest recommendation for all her works! - blazinangelwings Mar 30th, 2005

S. Anne Gardner reached new heights, both on her latest releases to paperback with "For the Love of a Woman...etc." and in her incomparable talent for creating compelling, passionate page-turners. Once again with "An Affair of Love," S. Anne Gardner presents her newest and most thrilling novel, a seductive and suspenseful tale of dangerous liasons and family betrayals. Has it been published yet and if so where can we order it? We give this story the highest rating. - jbrobrts@swbell Jan 8th, 2005

29. JLynn and Brigit M. Morgan's X&G tale Artemis Complex (177 pages)

Written as answer to the Bard Challenge tended by DJWP, this tale is set in the second season between 'The Execution' and 'Blind Faith.' The story is both a comedic and dramatic race against time. While on the way to the Amazon village for the sacred festival of Brauronia, Xena and Gabrielle encounter several bizarre (and seemingly unrelated) occurrences drawing them into a series of events and comedies of error that may spell the doom of the Amazon Nation and possibly the world unless they can help the goddess Artemis.

Wow, I am so glad that I found this jewel! This story is alt but also like the good old classic Xena. Great plot and wonderful writing. It has something for everyone. Amazons, slavers, gods, thieves just to mention a few. Truly a good read. Thank you very much bards. I hope to see more from the both of you! PLEASE DONT MISS THIS ONE! - R. C. P. Nov 9th, 2005

My compliments to the authors of this terrific story. Very imaginative plot, natural dialog, consistent characterizations... I could easily imagine this tale as an episode in Season Two. I hope Djwp's challenge to revive classic X&G fiction results in other works of such quality. And I hope that JLynn and Brigit M. Morgan will favor us with another tale. - LDP Apr 15th, 2005

You can't go wrong with these two authors. An absolutely captivating story and an amazing cast of characters. The development and conflict of emotions are intensely and vividly portrayed. Somehow I couldn't help but feel a little melancholy towards the end... - aurelius Apr 2nd, 2005

It's such a relief to find a classic story these days -- especially one that's so well-written and such a pleasure to read. This is the dynamic duo we all remember and long for. Great plot, great energy, wonderful chemistry between the WP and Bard. Can't wait for more! I highly recommend this and all stories by JLynn and Brigit Morgan. They are among the best of the Xenaverse! - anonymous Mar 1st, 2005

Loving it large! It's yonks since I read a classic and this one has left me wanting more. Xena and Gabrielle are bang on and I realised how much I missed the 'real' them, if you get my drift. Don't get me wrong I love Uber, but you can't beat the real thing for a mega nostalgic trip.

As soon as I saw who the authors were I was in there like a shot. I have loved both JLynn and Brigit M Morgan's other stories and I'm eagerly awaiting the conclusion to Brigit's outstanding Apocalypse/Inferno series, but this is filling the gap nicely.

Bring on the classic revival.
- Sai Feb 14th, 2005

I feel like a woman who has been crawling under a blazing sun across hot sand, lips cracked and parched - mind numb with thirst. I can see something in the distance, but what is it? Is it real? No, it can't be! I crawl closer reaching out with blistered fingers. It is. It is.

It's a honest-to-goddess, full-blown, classic Xena and Gabrielle story, with Amazons and Ephiny and Autolycus ... Xena is Xena, Gabrielle is Gabrielle - they look, talk and banter like they should - they even smell like they should! By the gods, I think I even even get a whiff of a first time story somewhere in there under all the muck!

I fall back onto the hot sand and roll over, staring at the blue of the sky, spent but relieved. And then my eyes widen in horror.

Yikes! They evoked the challenge! I better get my lazy butt off this hot sand and get to work!

Djwp
(Helluva start! Beautifully written, great plot! If anyone threw down the gauntlet, I'm sure glad it was you two. I raise my cup to JLynn and Brigit M. Morgan - two of the best who are keeping Xena and Gabrielle classic alive!)

28. C. E. Gray's alternative Original/Über Going Home (221 pages)

Honors/Awards:  Perenial Favorite Award:  #09 in 2004, #28 in 2005.   Three Time Top-25 #1
In C.E. Grays' beautifully written account of growing up and finding you are different, AJ and her twin brother Bastiaan lead an idyllic life in a Montana ranch...or do they? As their 18th birthday approaches, AJ, who is dyslexic and whose entire world is the farm and the open spaces she will soon inherit, learns a secret about her twin brother about to go off to college. Simultaneously, new neighbors move into the nearby farm and she makes a new friend by taking the small green-eyed redhead home after being lost almost a day. That begins a friendship that threatens the world the tall lanky dark-haired youth has known...and makes her question who she is and where home really is. This is a great coming-of-age tale.

Very Good Story. I enjoyed it. Characters are brooding teens and full of angst as normal. A large amount of descriptive material about the land, horses, and ranch. Nicely done. - JLNicky Jul 16th, 2005

Kori Eaton remained in her usual hiding place, patiently waiting for everyone to vacate the expansive building. Glancing at her Mickey Mouse watch, she noticed the time. 8:48 p.m. Based on the last few nights she'd spent here, she knew that everyone would be gone by 9:15. Then she would have the versatile department store all to herself. However, unbeknownst to the 5'5" blonde, not everyone had left Shopholics... Ambrosia does it again, creating a quirky and wonderful romance!

Ambrosia has one the most vivid imaginations I've ever "seen". The bard's descriptive abilities are so clear, I can SEE Kori and Skylar driving the length of aisle 3,
it still cracks me up just thinking about it! - dez Oct 27th, 2005

I loved this story. I really dont usually read uber but I am glad I read this. Thanks to Ambrosia for writing this. - Anonymous Mar 28th, 2005

The story of Kori Eaton and Skylar Whitney. An unusual meeting turns into an unforgettable night. A recently singled Kori, has been "living" at the Shopaholics Department store when one night, she finds out she is not alone in the store. A soon to be unhappily married Skylar, loses track of time (in the ladies room) to discover she was locked in the building with this stranger till morning. The events of the night would change both women forever. This tale was fun-loving and creative in nature, but most of all it had loads of that romantic stuff I crave. I would happily recommend this story.

Wow! This story is well written in style, taste, and in keeping continued interest. This story generates every conceivable emotion one could express.I love the characters Ash and Lauren. Their personalities are ones that a person could relate to and almost take on as your own. True to life.Exciting, keeps you guessing, what next. Light hearted. a chuckle or laugh at times. Romance, very refreshing, it deplicts the love, caring and understanding two people who are in love could have. Which so far constitues an unconditional love for each other. Being a continuing story, it keeps the readers interest in anticipation of what will happen in the lives of Ash and Lauren. A continuing story well done! (A Forever Fan) Kathy

Well, this is definitely a dangerous story... I couldn't stop once I started. I read right through the night to finish it...leaving me totally bleary-eyed but way happy. Absolutely brilliant! - Mic Oct 13th, 2005

Fantastic. - Anne Oct 13th, 2005

I made my partner mad this weekend because I started Fate on Friday night and didn't want to do anything else until I had finished it. When she was getting on me for reading instead of going out I had her read the first chapter. She was sucked in the same way I was. We spent a very romantic Saturday night snuggled together with our lap top reading Fate. DE Salsbury nice job from both of us. - Sharon & Lynn Oct 6th, 2005

Amazing story. Loved every page. - Jeri Sep 15th, 2005

I was looking for something new to read when I came across 'Fate' by DE Salsbury. I read the entire story in one sitting. I can honestly say that this story is one of the most well written pieces I have read on the net so far. The plot was well thought out with enough twist and turns to keep my intrest through out. All the players in this drama are credible. On the whole I give 'Fate' two thumbs way way up. - Tina Sep 8th, 2005

I have been reading this story from almost the beginning and I say,
Well Done, and in very Good Taste too.
This story has kept my iterest from the beginning and to now the End, which makes me fell sad in one way and Happy in the next. For one, I don't think we have heard the last of Lauren and Ash. I see and feel a sequel on the horizon. :)
I feel what lead up to the ending and how Ash displayed her love for Lauren was just Ash, being Ash, and shows just how two people can really be truely in love.
Then again beyond that, I can see how the sequel can begin to develop.
Great Job DE, this story deserves to be published!!
I will be waiting to read more of your stories.
Well done, and in good taste and fashion. :) - Kathy Jul 19th, 2004

Great story DE Salsbury. I have waited a while to read the entire story at one sitting (well okay, it took me more than a day because of other, unwelcome, intrusions) but it is an enjoyable, well put together story with enough excitement to keep me reading and enough tender moments to give myself an easier pace.
I eagerly await part 2 - letterwolf Jul 11th, 2004

WOW! Super story. Hope to see an addition. Would love to see more of these two. - Sheryl Jun 26th, 2004

I am normally a lurker who watches the top 25. Seeing Fate up for the last few weeks I finally decided to see for myself the staying power of this story. I was thrilled with the story. Once I picked it up I could not put it down and did not put it down until I had finished the last sentence. Great Job DE Salsbury, hope to see a sequel soon. - Karen Jun 22nd, 2004

If you do not read any other uber this year do NOT miss Fate. If you do you will miss something really special. - Dream Weaver May 24th, 2004

Fate is one of the most compelling books I have read on the verse. If you are looking for PWP, don't come here, but if you are looking for an exciting story that is well written with developed plot line and three dimensional characters this is where you need to be. Though the story is lengthy it is never ever dry or dull. Hats off to D. E. Salsbury for a job well done. Thank you for sharing your talent. - White Wolf May 17th, 2004

I just finished reading "Fate"- it took all day because once I started, I couldn't stop! It was GREAT, with likeable characters, and well written. I hope you are planning on a sequel, I find that I would like to know more about the pasts of the leads. I just wanted you to know that your story was appreciated. Read it! Live it! Love it!

I am so happy to see this on the top 25 again. This is a wonderful story that should not be missed. I realize that the length of it as well as the fact that it is still a 'work in progress' may hinder some from reading 'Fate' but I have one thing to say to those that may be waiting in the wings....READ THIS STORY. It is one of the best I have ever read. - Jerri Dec 25th, 2003

Excellent. - Anonymous Dec 17th, 2003

I have no idea how I could have missed this one for so long. This story is abosolutely FANTASTIC. Each and every page is filled with humor, suspense and romance. - Taz Oct 17th, 2003

I have never been one for reading long stories especially when they are not finished. With that said, I am so glad I made an exception to this rule for Fate.
Fate is an amazing story with a well developed plot line and three dimensional characters. I can honestly say, unlike most of the longer stories I have read, this one has never had a dull moment. This story is a very entertaining mixture of intrigue, humor and action.
Nice job D E Salsbury, keep up the good work.

I fell across this by accident and am glad I did. I loved the Facts Of Life and enjoyed this story from start to finish. The humor with Nat and Tootie was true to there characters. The build up to the relationship betwen Jo and Blair was interestng and show"s how true friends (and lovers) lookout for one another. - Liz Aug 11th, 2005

I didn't enjoy this story about Jo and Blair as much as the others, but it was still interesting to read, especially the humor with Nat and Tootie. But what I'm waiting for are stories with "original" characters, made up by Larisa, as only Larisa's imagination can dream up. Those are her best loved stories ...and very much missed! Or how about sequels to ANY of her originals. I would love to read more about Memphis, Luka, CJ, Brumby, Sprout & Lia from "Day Walker" again, just to name one of my favorites. How's Tucker, Duncan, baby Shane, Ripples & Furball doing from "Blue Calm?" Or Levi, Brody, Shane & Teddy from "Blind Date." Ok, that's two more favorites, I better stop. Sequels from any of her originals would be appreciated and loved. Keep up the great work, Larisa, it's great to have you back. - Sherry Jun 1st, 2005

I'm a bit confused, are the characters in this story the same as who were in Weekend Bliss and A Period of Adjustment because I'm just having a really hard time grasping this idea. - Louise May 31st, 2005

Honors/Awards:  Perenial Favorite Award:  #13 in 2003, #21 in 2005.   Two Time Top-25 #1.
This tale by Heike Freudenmann and G. S. Binkley, and written by G. S. Binkley is about a woman’s disillusioned quest for love. After giving her heart to another ten years earlier, Robin Hart decided to shun love forever. But an unexpected reunion with an old friend tests her resolve and gives hope to the beautiful Kim Patakas who has troubles of her own. When Robin intercedes between Kim and her boyfriend, the young woman tries one more time to find the key to her true love’s heart. Both Robin and Kim have to search within, melting away the layers of insecurities and doubts that they will only be able to do with each other as they pursue their own quest for love.

'An Innocent Heart' plays like a sweet melody of love when you read this excellent story. Robin's quest for love is eternal and has touched my heart and yearning just as much. My hope springs forth for my own soulmate as I read this story and now know that she's there waiting for me. GSB's extraordinary writing sculptures romance and love along with challenges that can be overcomed in this sweet story. Make sure you read this tale if you are dissolutioned about love coming your way or if you just want to be reassured. Once again, my highest praise for this author. - Anonymous Jul 21st, 2005

I took the time to re-visit this story and found it as enchanting, easy to read and romantic as I did when I first read it. It is one of my favs... if you missed it the first time, be sure to take a long at it now and see what you've been missing. Great story. - Ryn Jan 23rd, 2005

A SciFi/Fantasy tale where the lives of two people entwine to continue a Dynasty based on Love and Honor. I don’t do angst so there is none and I’m a mushball at heart, read at your own risk.

Man I'm speechless all I can say without giving out spoilers is that this story is A MUST READ!!! Anybody who doesn't is crazy not too. - Krysta Sep 1st, 2005

Hey this is superb! You should think about turning it into a screen play--as a film, it'd make a great addition to the small collection of good lesbian themed films out there. I'd see it if it were at the image out film festival!!! - Anonymous Jul 22nd, 2005

Extraordinary story. Tas is a very imaginative bard with excellent writing skills. Her characters and plot are well defined. In addition to providing a breathtaking adventure, discerning readers also come away with an insight and appreciation for the advantages an open society always has over a closed society. Epic, well worth the time.

Fantastic! This is one of my favorite stories by Larisa and that's a hard statement to make, considering most of her stories are favorites of mine. Tucker Danes is supposed to be on vacation in Hawaii with her fiancé Steve, and it's NOT what she expected. All he cared about was making a good impression with his boss, and Tucker was asking herself why she was with that looser. Then the unthinkable happens and Tucker leaves him, set on returning home to Texas as soon as possible. As fate would have it, she can't get a flight home, and ends up at Mama's. There she'll experience what Hawaii and surfing are all about, the antics of Furball, Ripples and Dunc, and what love looks like when she looks into eyes as blue as the ocean. This is another laughter-filled romance with tender moments and some spew alerts, a la Larisa!

Another damn good story. Geeze this is amazing. Good characters and plot. - Anonymous Jul 25th, 2005

Fantastic!!! I just loved it... maybe because I'm myself a huge beach bum. ;-) I'm not so into the pregnacy/rape stories and I don't think it was "necessary" for the plot here, but... I just "ignored" it. The setting and the characters are great. READ IT! - The Fic Addict Feb 9th, 2005

I LOVE this story. It is one of Larisa's best and I sincerely hope that she writes a sequel. Please, please, please, write a sequel to this story. As a matter of fact get this story published, I would be the first in line to purchase a copy!! I've read almost all of Larisa's stories and this story along with Blind Date has got to be the funniest to date. If you don't read this story you will miss some of the best fan fiction every written. It has love, laughter and lust; what more could you want. Oh! Yeah, there is a plot and a worm named Steve, that should have been used as fish bait, but what is a love story without a villain. P.S. Can someone tell where I can find friends and a momma like this? - Lasher Dec 20th, 2004

STOP!Don't read another story till you read this one.I haven't had so much fun reading a story in a long time. The characters are just priceless, and the idiots washing the baby had me on the floor in stitches. Damn good writing. Outrageous, delightful and sensual. Please, please write a sequel Larisa. These characters are just too good for one story only. You rock, Larisa! - Fredrica Jun 21st, 2004

All I have to say is Larisa writes some of the best fic storys I've ever read. - TMc Aug 1st, 2003

I loved it , but then I have all of hers. The goofy characters she comes up with and the situations keeps me in stiches - can't get enough of the goofy ones they just add to the story. If ever I am looking for something to read I just grab a Larisa story. Keep up the good work for I will read them all. - Linda Jul 14th, 2003

Damn, woman you're good. You should write sequels for some of your stories. I would love reading one of Blue Calm.

Please, don't ever stop writing!!!! You're way to good!!!!

- Bacchus Jul 11th, 2003

With the amount of stories, Larisa has written at this point, one might be tempted to say: GET A LIFE! However, I prefer to say: Please don't EVER get a life. Please! Blue Calm is not the first Larisa I've read, and it will certainly not be the last, either. It it simply too funny to describe, it has to be experienced. You laugh, you cry... and then you laugh some more. I want a Mama and two idiots of my very own. Larisa = Quality. Keep it up! - Wolvie-DK Jun 16th, 2003

Another wonderfully unique Larisa original...filled with romance, drama, and outrageous humor. Ahhh...a feel good sensation achieved with this truly delightful and sensually delectable read. Well done, bard. Two thumbs up! ~Ag~ - ~Ag~ May 13th, 2003

Well, Larisa has done it, again!!! Blue Calm kept me in constant giggle mode, with a few happy tears thrown in along the way. Ripples and Furball, the idiots, are hilarious, and watching Mama try to control her brood kept me in stitches. And I have to say, either Larisa has lived the most diverse life ever on this planet, or she has the best imagination around, because she can write about any subject, as though she's an old hand at it. Kudos, Larisa, and thanks again for sharing you're marvelous talent with us!!! I do have to say, though, I missed the goat in this one!!! - Michelle May 13th, 2003

A surfer, a writer, a couple of idiots and ... you'll have to read the rest. It's Larisa at her best. The laughs don't stop. - Anonymous May 12th, 2003

ANY CHANCE OF A SEQUEL??? - Anonymous May 8th, 2003

Why haven't any of Larisa's stories been published? I would love to have an anthology of her stories! I'd be the first in line to buy any of her books. The only problem would be trying to select just which stories to publish. Thanks, Larisa, for all the laughs and many hours of enjoyment you have given us. - Anonymous May 6th, 2003

Incredible story. Absolutely loved it. It just keeps getting better and better with each new one you show us. :) Gotta love those sexy surfers. ;-)

I do have one question however....

14. Larisa's alternative Original/Über Weekend Bliss (24 pages)

Honors/Awards: Top-25 #1.

Why does this story not show as a former #1 on the Top 25 list? Or is that fact just a given with a story by Larisa! ;) - Dee Jun 14th, 2005

I really enjoyed this short story, I especially love the interaction between Blair and Jo. I haven't read any Facts of Life fanfiction in so long, so thanks for writing about these gals :) - Jen May 25th, 2005

13. Fingersmith's alternative Original/Über Dwelling in the Past (134 pages)

Abbie Jameson needs to escape her life. A writer with no muse, and a marriage with no love. She retreats to Yorkshire in a bid to find her true self. But the ‘self’ she finds is not what she was expecting. Only the dark, enigmatic Kate Thomas can help her discover the truth.

Although a supernatural vein flows through this story, it is ultimately about love, self-discovery and the realisation that all we have to do is let go … and believe.

What a delight! You've seen the references in previous comments to the "dark" nature of this tale, but for me there were hidden sparkling gems. References to American music, movies and cartoons(Scooby-Doo) with the interspersed English idioms such as "gob smacked" brought a smile to my face time and again! This is one talented author!! What a well-crafted, thghtly-woven story! Thanks yet again, Fingersmith, for sharing your wonderful imagination in such a stellar manner. - Therese Dec 26th, 2005

Had to read this after I had read Hearts and Flowers Border. I loved it! Loved it. Scary at times, and kind of dark, but the main characters were excellently described and I felt like I was there. A thoroughly enjoyable read and I would recommend this to anyone. Couldn't put it down. Thank you Fingersmith and keep up the writing! Please! - Jenny Aug 7th, 2005

wow ! this story is so intense is really deep,,,I wish I can discribe my love life the way fingersmith discribe the love of these two women.....very powerful..so unique . Keep up the good work ....and this story deserves a sequel.... oh yeah!!! - arly May 10th, 2005

I highly recommend this story!! I read 'hearts and flowers border' not long ago and it's a fascinating story!! Now Fingersmith came up with another just as good. Different from her first attempt to fiction this one sounds rather dark and spooky, makes one wonder that with a flick of the wrist your everything can turn to nothing. And even so the characters get drawn to one another by something more powerful, to finally walk out of the dark. Wonderful! Wonderful story! Perfectly written! I totally disagree with tarvvy, it's not boring at all. And it didn't seem long enough either cause when I reached the end I was somehow willing to have more to read. Well done, Fingersmith!! - Jo May 5th, 2005

I really loved this story and would recommend it without question. I could not put it down. Wonderful new author! Thanks, Fingersmith. - Summer Sun May 4th, 2005

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Good plot and characters. I have to disagree with tarrvy - I didn't find any boring bits, and it wasn't long enough. Everything was needed to make a really good read. It was funny and sexy. - Karen May 4th, 2005

it's a gud story, boring in some parts, just a little long, but over all a funny read - tarvvy May 3rd, 2005

What can I say that hasn't already been said about Fingersmith and her writing talents? She's an awesome writer and one that I will continue to watch out for in the future. I wish I were writing this good in my second story. lol. Although Dwelling in the Past is so very different from Hearts and Flowers Border, it's just as good. And man, can Fingersmith write a steamy sex scene. ;) So, give this great story a read. You will not be disappointed. - MSAnderson Apr 27th, 2005

In this second offering from Fingersmith, we the very fortunate reader are not let down one bit from the high we were on from Hearts and Flowers Border. Dwelling in the Past is a wonderful story that twists and turns and sometimes leaves your heart in your throat! I thought the writing was incredible....Fingersmith has a gift....a wonderful ability to shape an image perfectly for the readers mind. I personally think she is a master of descriptive writing! I certainly hope she doesn't stop anytime soon! Good on ya Fingersmith!!! - Asgard Apr 27th, 2005

Excellent. What a story!!! The plot is believable and the characters are as sexy as hell! I think the ending was my favourite part. Well done Fingersmith!! Please write more! - Sophie Apr 26th, 2005

Wonderful! A definite must-read! I loved Hearts and Flowers Border but this is so much darker and more intense, I think I may prefer it more. The characters are tantalisingly well-developed (for me, the dark and sultry Kate Thomas is a definite dead-ringer for LL in HOD - yum!). Though there is a supernatural element, it never detracts from the hot and steamy growing passion between Abbie and Kate, so if you're not one for ghost stories don't let it put you off! The ending I think is very well done - not what I was expecting! But I don't think it could have been done any other way. Excellent! Another brilliant story from this new gifted writer - you're not just a one-hit wonder!! From your number one fan xx - Julie Apr 25th, 2005

Living near where the events in Yorkshire occured added a great dimension to an already atmospheric supernatural tale. I loved the character of Kate, a wonderfully brooding uber X! Highly recommended second story from a great new writer. - sapphie Apr 25th, 2005

Honors/Awards: Top-25 #1.
Caid Harris is an ex beer commercial actress who’s made it to the big time and can’t believe her luck. A plum role on a hot new cop show has Caid sharing her once private life with a horde of press and media, sharing the screen with a temperamental southern belle who she calls friend, and sharing her trailer with a leggy brunette who leaves her tongue-tied, slightly off-center, and just a little breathless. And the roller coaster ride that took Caid from a beer hawking ‘Balentine Babe’ to the role of tough cop Rita Stone gets even more interesting when the show’s creator wants to push the envelope and decides Caid is just the woman to do it.

fantastic story with great characters. it's well worth a read or three. would it be too much to ask for a sequel? :D - Anonymous Dec 16th, 2005

This is a terrific novel! The author has done a great job of creating a well-plotted, well-written, and well-edited story that is very engaging. I'd heed the warnings from other readers about starting this story late at night or before a big work day--you'll have a tough time putting it down before you're finished! - Martha Aug 13th, 2005

10. Stone's alternative Original/Über Time Has No Meaning (125 pages)

Honors/Awards: Top-25 #1.
Danielle Hamilton recognized that The Station and some of her old friends weren’t exactly the same. But the raven-haired woman standing in front of her is definitely the woman pictured in the locket she’d been admiring…just before everything went blank. Jess Blain didn’t know who the woman was or how she had appeared, and until she did, she planned on keeping Danielle close. When the two have to pose as lovers to keep Danielle from being hanged, everyone questions the timing, since Jess Blain was recently accused of murdering the woman in her life. Add to this a civil war, a locket with a picture of a woman dressed in men’s clothing, an undeniable desire and an unsolved mystery and enjoy the ride as past and present collide.

I can only second the previous comments: Excellent story! Thanks for the great read! - Mindwalker78 Oct 18th, 2005

Wonderful story. A must read. - Anonymous Oct 16th, 2005

9. Fingersmith's alternative Original/Über Hearts and Flowers Border (151 pages)

Honors/Awards: Top-25 #1.
A visitor from her past jolts Laura Stewart into memories … some funny … some heart wrenching … but she needs to deal with all of them before she can open the door to allow her past to shape her future.

Wonderful! Wonderful! Wonderful! When I finished reading this Holiday weekend, I realized I had consumed Fingersmith's stories in the reverse order they were written. It's a testament to her marvelous talent that her ability seems as polished in the first as it did in the last. Another wonderfully woven tale told with humor, insight, imagination and love. I am avidly awaiting the next story from this gifted author! - Therese Dec 26th, 2005

A real roller coaster...I laughed (Fingersmith has a wicked sense of humour), and I cried (touching moments, well written) and I got horny!!!! (Fingersmith can write a mean sex scene!!!). All praise for this first time story, I look forward to many more. BTW if Fingersmith reads this I'd like to email her to congratulate and comment further, but it seems her email addy isn't working from the end of the story. - sapphie Apr 4th, 2005

You will love this story!!! From beginning to end, it keeps you on the edge of your seat and on a roller-coaster ride of emotion. It is fast-paced, with never a dull moment, and you will surely fall in love with the characters as much as I have! Fingersmith is a truly gifted writer - witty one moment, delivering mouth-watering angst the next, all culminating in a climax of fulfilled dreams and a happy, happy ending (which, come on, we all love!!). I especially love the fictional scenario of supposed unrequited love, then discovering the passion is fully reciprocated - and Fingersmith manages to convey all this exquisitely!! She is a true, raw talent, who I think we'll all hear more from very soon - remember where you saw her first!! And Fingersmith, if you're reading this - if you publish we'll buy your books!!! From your Number One Fan! - Julie Mar 31st, 2005

I think I might have fell in love with this story. I was hooked from the first paragraph to the last sentence. I would recommend this to anyone who has had a broken heart. You won't be disappointed. - Meg Mar 31st, 2005

If you havent read this story yet...I can only say one thing: READ IT!!! And read it now!! Figersmith just striked me as a fantastically gifted writer! And this is her first attempt to fiction...go figure! It's a wonderful story... sweet, funny, with such captivating characters that we all can relate to. It is very well writen and it can reach anyone's heart with so much joy. It talks about lost love - a theme that can strike a chord in anyone who went/goes through similar situations. And it also talks about love, friendship and all the emotions and fears and insecurities we all have at some point in our lives. Laura's character has an amazingly great sense of humor, being sarcastic at the right times, making you laugh no end. I really enjoyed this story so much, so I'd like to recommend it to anyone who hasnt read it yet. - Cris (aka Poppet) Mar 30th, 2005

O-MA-GAWD. I started reading this and got a kidney stone and still wanted to read. Okay the pain kept me from it. But my mind was wrapped up in the drama. (ok in unison-"freak!") This the first story I have read by KG MacGregor and I am very impressed with the GOOD, HIGH QUALITY, SUBTLE writing and storytelling. My favorite part is the little chapter end comments. Sorry about the previous recommendation, that I wrote. I thought I copy and pasted the whole thing but I didn't. The story is awesome and can't wait for further chapters. I consumed by the story, you can tell by my previous half missing recommendation. I just wanted to reach through the words at the one character. - Shaye Mar 13th, 2005

I just read part 3 and that restaurant scene, wow. There is one thing that bothers me, I can understand Taylor not wanting to blow her cover, but what Vicki did was out of line. That behavior should not go unpunished, I would think that something official would be done to Vicki for endangering an officer's life. - Shaye Feb 25th, 2005

I'm really looking forward to more chapters,it seems to be building up to a mighty fine read. Please, we want more more more ! - Eddie Feb 13th, 2005

Surrender,
A really interesting..well written storyline. I am definitely looking forward
towards the next chapters. Hopefully 'Stone" you and your 'gifted muse' have
the entire story finished. (g)..... - Christi Feb 9th, 2005

2. RJ Nolan's alternative Original/Über Double Trouble (126 pages)

Honors/Awards: Top-25 #1.
Little did Kris know that the traditional first baseball game of the season played each April between the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers would change her life. Tripping in front of the dark-haired Erin and caught ogling to boot, was only the preamble for the tall blonde, as both ended up splashed with beer in the stands and laughing good naturedly about the accident and clean-up. As they talk, Kris finds out that the fairly newly come-out Erin has a set of 4 year-old-twins, which does not deter her from wanting to see her again. So begins what will be bound to open old wounds and make both women stronger as they find in each other a connection, and love, lust, trust, kids and trouble times two and more will decidedly make their relationship a rocky one but ultimately worth pursuing. R. Nolan has woven another wonderful tale to keep you glued to your screen in wonder!

This is what a romance story should be. R.Nolan knows how to to make you care about the characters and the trials and tribulations any new romace faces. Highest recommendation, read this story...you won't be sorry! - Dana Jun 13th, 2005

RNolan never disappoints! Her new characters are wonderfully written. The women's love and their struggle to overcome life's obsticles is a great read. I'm always a sucker for a story that includes kids and this one does not dissapoint! Great work, I look forward to anything else RNolan writes. - Littlespit May 9th, 2005

She's back and with a whole new set of characters to love and of course a couple to love to hate! R. Nolan's new story is well worth a read. Both main characters are strong women in their own right and the kids were just adorable. Any chance of seeing more of these lovely ladies? - Kelly May 7th, 2005

And the most read story of the year was...

1. RJ Nolan's alternative ST:Voyager novel Unexpected Arrival (151 pages)

Honors/Awards:  2005 Story Of The Year.  Top-25 #1.
In this ST Voyager tale, R. Nolan has woven a tale of romance and adventure that showcases Voyager and its crew while still bringing elements that are fresh and intriguing to the foreground. Janeway and the crew while still in the Delta quadrant, encounter escape pods with Federation signatures, and faint lifesigns in one. Unexpectedly, they find Commander Delores 'Del' Ray MacMillan, hurt but still alive. The tall blond addition to the crew will bring a few surprises to Voyager, and will make more than a few re-examine how they view themselves and each other, especially Seven of Nine, whose gaining of a measure of humanity and more will lead to an enchanting proposition.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all my loyal readers for all the wonderful response Unexpected Arrival has received. The reaction has been phenomenal. Star Trek Voyager was a bit of a departure from my usual writing but was a fun experience. Seven of Nine has always been my favorite character, and I was intrigued by the idea of creating a story that featured Seven and expanded on the character we had all come to love.
Many of the emails I’ve received concerning this story have requested, sometimes quite adamantly in fact ;-) a sequel to Unexpected Arrival. To that end, as a thank you to everyone who has taken the time to write and share with me their enjoyment of Unexpected Arrival I have an announcement. Coming in January to the Athenaeum: The sequel to Unexpected Arrival… Join Del and Seven on a totally new adventure as they go Into the Void.
Happy Reading, RJ Nolan.
- RJ Nolan Dec 24th, 2005

I just have one question. RJ where were you when this series was on the air? With writing like this it would still be on! Great story. I miss these characters and it was great to see them back. More please! - Karen Nov 12th, 2005

What an unexpectedly wonderful story! It was touching,
charming, funny, and exciting.Highly recommended, even if you are not a Voyager fan. Great sci-fi story. - Janie Aug 31st, 2005

An excellent story from start to finish. A nice change to have Seven not be
with Janeway and what a delightful alternative Del was. - Anonymous Apr 7th, 2005

this is an amazing story!!!! hope theres a sequel cuz i cant wait!!!! - krysta Mar 19th, 2005

R. Nolan has created something truly wonderful in Unexpected Arrival. It was one of the most enjoyable stories I've read in a long time. With R. Nolan's wonderfully written dialogue, the characters really come alive to the reader. Seven is written very accurately, and the "Unexpected Arrival" was one that the reader can't help but fall in love with. It's sweet, romantic, funny…and just an all around great love story. It gets my highest recommendation. - Bardeyes Mar 7th, 2005

You have cemented my fandomhood with your latest story. Wow! I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading more in the future. Please continue to write! - ln549 Feb 27th, 2005

It’s no secret that I adore R Nolan’s writings; this story is no exception. It is well written, and a wonderful love story with just enough angst to be intriguing without becomming frustrating. Keep up the great work R…and we’ll all keep reading, I’m sure. - Littlespit Feb 25th, 2005

Truly loved this story. I have never really been able to get into the Voyager Fanfic due to the dynamics of the characters but by adding a new character to the cast really made the story line click. Loved it. I highly recommend it to all.

The author's previous works have all been excellent pieces and with this addition is par for the course. Wonderful job. - ellebmd Feb 23rd, 2005
